I wondered if anyone knows why WDW does not sell ice-cream before 11am?

I can just about understand that Disney does not think it cost-effective to man a stand in the parks before 11. (Although I find it annoying). However when I tried to buy a Mickey Bar at 10.45 at POFQ food court recently, I was told they are not allowed to sell ice-cream before 11!! It is unlike Disney to forego an opportunity for profit, so is there an explanation? Is it against the law in Florida to sell ice-cream before 11 perhaps?

When I first started reading this I thought this was going to be 'why don't they open the ice cream shops until 11:00 AM' and I had a semi snarky answer of 'maybe many people don't buy ice cream that early so no reason to open'.

But not sure why they can't sell a prepackaged item at a place that is already open. Your post makes it sound like they are prohibited from selling you ice cream.

Maybe some weird Florida Blue Law. :rotfl:

Yes, I understand that clearly Americans do not eat ice-cream in the same way as the British! Here you expect to be able to buy an ice-cream any time when you are say at the beach. I was amazed the first time we visited WDW about 15 years ago and the choice of packaged ice-cream was simply a Mickey Bar or a frozen strawberry bar I think! At least now they have a slightly larger range, though nothing like what you would be offered here in England. And obviously you only eat it in the afternoons for some reason!

But my point was not the cultural difference but the strange embargo!

I wonder if the situation at the resort food court has something to do with meal hours. Perhaps before 11:00 they are restricted to only selling breakfast items?

ETA: I love icecream, but even I don't want it for breakfast.

No, not for breakfast, but it is great as a mid-morning snack in hot weather! And surely nobody eats breakfast at WDW after say 9.30 - they should be on the rides!

We are sometimes late breakfast diners. There are times when we will catch a few rides first then hop over for a late breakfast.

Oh and my husband and my mother are both firm believers that ice cream is for any time of day. :goodvibes

Should they? Not me if I've been up till the wee hours enjoying EMH at Mk!. We always take a day off and hang around the resort at least one day a week. You won't catch me having breakfast till 10:00 am on a non-park day, I guarantee. And I think 11:00 is the time that they switch from their breakfast to lunch menus.

Even the breakfast only food scenario doesn't make sense though... I've been able to buy a bag of chips or cookies before 11? :confused3 That is so weird.
