IBBBT: What's the best Children's Book You have Ever Read?

I've read nearly everything that's been listed, and they are all great books.

The only one I can think of that wasn't listed is a younger book, The Little Engine that Could. I can still remember the illustrations as well - what a great little book!

I just loved the books I got from Discovery Toys' book club back in the 80's.

My favorite was

Wizard of Oz (the entire series)

Oh, the Wizard of Oz series!!!! In 3rd-5th grade, my best friend and I read through this entire series. Each Christmas/birthday we would ask our parents for the next book in the series, and then we'd swap.

The books are SOOO good!

Shame all the film interpretations have been so poor. Fantastic Mr. Fox looks set to flop.

i was wondering that too. i've been trying to figure it out but cant think of anything that actually makes sense...

I was a horse lover as a child (still am). I lived and breathed horses. So most of my favorite childhood books involved horses.

The Black Stallion series - my very favorite of these was The Island Stallion
All of Mary O'Hara books:
My Friend Flicka
Thunderhead
Green Grass of Wyoming
also Marguerite Henry's horse books:
Misty of Chincoteague
Sea Star: Orphan of Chicoteague
Stormy, Misty's Foal
I also had every Nancy Drew book and loved mysteries.

Me too and I read all of the same books and Island Stallion was my favourite too!
