Today's NY Post is reporting that Schrager (formerly of Studio 54, and now hotel designer/magnate) is under contract with Disney to design hotels at both Disneyland And Walt Disney World, based on original Walt Disney sketches. Anyone heard anything about this? The Post doesn't always get it right...

Whoa. I found one link. Can you share where you saw that?

I wonder if Disney will operate them? I'm not surprised by this though. The Disneyland Hotels should be operated by Disney for sure. Those hotels have been gold mines.

You found the link to the piece I read. I'm intrigued by the idea of them being based off Walt Disney's sketches.
I know, a very impressive way to pay tribute. I'm wondering if they're interpretations of other sketches or they were intended to be hotels. I'm excited. His company has embarked on ownership ventures before. This could be 3rd party on property.

This is great, I agree and love the idea the Hotels would be on Walt's ideas and sketches!

As they mention hotels for WDW, would this have anything to do with finally developing Flamingo Crossings?

Here's his brands of hotels:

Pretty modern, and boutique hotel brands. I got to say I'm not sure where he fits into Disney. The work he's doing is the very opposite of what Disney has traditionally done. Really there is probably no hotel farther away from his work then Pop Century. I'm going to bring this over to WDWmagic, to see if they've heard anything.

True, but I was thinking maybe some hotels not only using Walt's drawings or maybe a futuristic sketch by Walt that could be modeled on a Star Wars theme.

He revamped and freshened up the Gramercy Park Hotel in NYC a while back, and kept a lot of the existing traditional elements. It is beautiful, modern and also cozy, a great New York standard, and a wonderful place to stay. I know a lot of his recent stuff is more contemporary looking, but I think Gramercy Park shows he has a wide range of talents.

I just don't know where they would put another hotel in disneyland right now. They already have a parking problem especially with the increased traffic for the 60th so I can't see them using a parking lot.

Parking lot by Paradise Pier perhaps. I'm not sure what it will do to the sight lines. The parking problems can be fixed by adding in garages around the area.

This is exciting. Disneyland could use another onsite hotel. On the disunplugged podcast they were talking about this. They had mentioned the location by the DLH sort of in between the fantasy tower and the espn zone.

Thanks! Sounds cramped though...

I know but I don't see them starting a new hotel until they have parking under control.

It's a hollow shell of its former self. They aren't serious about it yet.
Well it won't be the original concept of flamingo crossings but it will be hotels and I'm sure a couple restaurants will pop up over there.
