I65 at Indiana/Kentucky (Louisville) Border

I just began my scouting for our annual drive down to Florida and saw that there is some long term work being done at the border to build a new bridge. Has anyone been through there to know how bad it is? It sounds like two of three lanes will be left open. We'll be going through there on a Saturday late morning, so hopefully, it shouldn't be too bad. We could always detour over to I75 in Cincinnati, but that adds a half hour to our drive that I'd rather spend in the pool when we get there.

It all depends on the time. I was just there a couple of days ago traveling back from WDW. I stopped at Louisville for the night and left late Monday morning (10 am) and traffic wasn't too bad heading into Indy. When we drove down to WDW, we hit the Indiana/Kentucky border around late morning as well on a Wednesday and that was fine too. The bad section was I-65 just north of Indianapolis, if I remember correctly.

If you miss Louisville during rush hour, you should be fine.

There has been a construction area south of Louisville that has been down to 1 lane on weekends with backups upwards of 2 hours and 20 miles. 31E is an easy alternate if you happen to run into that mess.

Not the area you are asking about but there is construction in Indianapolis at 65 and 465. If you hit this area at rush hour, it might be a headache. Just a heads up

The are closing 1 lane heading Northbound 65, started this week and will be closed through next year. You should be OK going southbound, and if travelling on the weekend, there will be almost 0 traffic downtown. It's not exactly a weekend driving destination...no malls or shops or much of anything to draw traffic down there on the weekends (except baseball, and even then it's not bad).
