Is it quicker to take I4 or 417 from Sanford to WDW on a Sat. a.m.? I4 looks more direct on the map but it goes right thru Orlando. Will I encounter more traffic or construction that time of day?

I have not taken 417 from Sanford, but I take it all the time from MCO and have always found it to be much less congested than I4. I was on I4 once in the Orlando area, and there was some kind of construction backup that had us at a standstill...between that and the general traffic, I avoid I4 whenever possible.

I have traveled I-4 for 6 years from Deltona to MCO.
It will depend on the time of a work day. 6:30 to 8:30 AM, West bound I-4 is grid lock rush hour. I would take I-4 if it were 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Otherwise, I would take 417. which is longer but faster. Weekends should be no problem.

Highway construction in FL is done at night. From Sanford to the attractions area there is very little construction Most of it is to the east of where you will be getting on.

If you are arriving MCO, I would always take 417 to WDW.

I highly recommend taking 417. It takes a little longer and costs a few bucks, but it is sooo much easier. No traffic jams, no idiots cutting across four lanes of traffic, no more bumper to bumper 85 mph OMG we are all gonna die runs through downtown Orlando. Tthe toll booth workers are even polite. Take the right at Sanford... you will arrive at the World much more relaxed. :smooth:

I-4 on a Saturday morning usually isn't that bad, however, one accident can make I-4 a standstill for hours.

I was on I-4 coming back from Daytona yesterday. There was a fatal accident on I-4 that had traffic backed up for miles while the road was closed.

We heard about and took 417 from Sanford to WDW. 417 was busier than usual because of the accident but we got home quickly with less traffic than I-4.

We usually try to avoid I-4 because of all the traffic. 417 is a great way to go.
