I would love a Harry Potter-themed Cruise ship....yes I know it's not Disney

I think the problem with that is whether Rowlands would ever agree to it. She was pretty hands on with every facet of the Universal projects for the parks. Her one non-negotiable requirement was that no character impersonators for the main characters be in any of the parks. Which is another reason why I don't think it would have worked with Disney.

Agreed. Jo Rowling is VERY picky when it comes to who she allows to touch her work and how much. Which definitely isn't a bad thing, since it's helped the brand keep a solid reputation over the years. It would definitely be the kind of work she'd have to be super involved in.

My daughter would die for this! My niece and I have turned her into an obsessed Harry Potter fanatic. She is positive she's getting her letter to Hogwarts when she turns 11. She is going to Harry Potter camp this summer (through the Y).

As much as I'd love to see a Harry Potter themed ship, it's a big risk that I don't think any line would take.

We owned a book store during the Harry Potter craze, having several midnight releases of new books, and you wouldn't believe the sheer number of people who made rude comments about Harry Potter to their children, telling them it was evil because it had witchcraft. More than one parent told their child that they were going to hell if they read Harry Potter, even though the children were obviously excited about the new books. My wife was dressed down by more than one pious mother for carrying Harry Potter books, even though said mother was purchasing used Harlequin romances.

The backlash from the vocal minority would be shrill, much like the Disney boycotts we hear about on occasion. I don't know if any line wants to step into that cesspool.

Not HP, but I am kicking myself for missing the inaugural sailing of Regal Princess that had all of the original "Love Boat" crew onboard as well as a number of the recurring guest stars. Charo gave a Spanish guitar show that everyone said was fantastic, but I would have loved to been in the line for the bar when they let Ted Lange make the drinks for about an hour...

Totally off topic but I met Ted Lange last year when he was in town as the Grand Marshall of a local parade. My DD was doing a story for the High School newspaper and he was kind enough to talk with her for a bit and take pictures. Really nice man :)

i would be first in line to book, there is so much they could do with a hp themed ship or even a sailing- and they could pretty much charge whatever they wanted, look how much disney charges... if they had a sailing even twice a year for hp i guarantee they would be sold out in minutes

that's quite hypocrital because the same type of people are fine with Disney even though Disney has magic and witchcraft as well......

Hypocritical is the perfect word, although when I was a kid my parents wouldn't let me see Fantasia when I asked to because their preacher had told them it was "evil".

ridiculous! if that's the case then we shouldnt read the Bible because it's filled with stuff about satan......

Well, if you want to be literal, it's full of what some might see as witchcraft too. Magic and stuff. Water into wine is pretty magical, to be honest, as is resurrection. It all depends on perspective.

Actually, a Harry Potter cruise would be great, but would it work????

It could not be a 1 cruise thing. The costs to set it up would be really expensive. HP has a good following, but how many would cruise?

The only line that has ships even remotely close to the time period is .........wait for it............DCL. The costs to design the cruise, events, shows, food, etc. and partially redecorate the whole ship, public areas and cabins etc...............big bucks!

I would love to cruise a HP themed ship, but I don't think it could make the cut.

Universal does not have an arrangement with any cruise lines, until last week. Dreamworks Animation has a deal with Royal Caribbean. Now that Universal owns Dreamworks Animation, I guess we will see if any other Universal stuff makes it on their ships, like Despicable Me. I don't see an HP themed cruise ever in my lifetime. I am just hoping that the Uni/Dreamworks deal will increase the number of theaters on older RCCL ships. I would love to do the one-way Alaska itinerary on an RCCL ship with a theater.
