I would love a Harry Potter-themed Cruise ship....yes I know it's not Disney

Not HP, but I am kicking myself for missing the inaugural sailing of Regal Princess that had all of the original "Love Boat" crew onboard as well as a number of the recurring guest stars. Charo gave a Spanish guitar show that everyone said was fantastic, but I would have loved to been in the line for the bar when they let Ted Lange make the drinks for about an hour...

Simple Answer to all things Potter J.K Rowling controls everything about it. If it hasn't been presented to her or she doesn't like it it won't happen.

^ This. If you read about the development of both Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley, you'll hear plenty of stories of how much control she wielded (and still wields) over those lands, and how important she felt it was to be as immersive as possible.

Never say never, but I just don't see how a cruise ship could ever allow for the immersion she demands.

It would depend on the extent of Universal's copyrights to use the Harry Potter theming.

I believe Universal only has the theme park rights to them in the same way they do with Marvel. All other rights are secured with J.L. Rowling (rhymes with bowling btw) and Warner Brothers studio.

On the SWDAS Cruise, we loved hearing the Fantasy's ship horn playing the Imperial March. Can you imagine the ship's horn playing the Harry Potter theme?

I'd give my left arm, (or any other 3 letter body part) to see Charro! She awesome, she was on Celebrity Wife Swap a few months ago, she's hilarious.

OMG -- that would be so awesome to have a HP themed ship. We love the parks in Universal. And FYI -- we went to Warner Bros. studios in London last year which has ALL of the sets, props, costumes, etc. from the movies. It was an unbelievable experience. But I will say that Universal nailed it -- every brick and sign and alley. If you have been to the parks at Universal and then see the original sets in London, it's amazing the amount of effort they did to get it exact. Even the lighting in places like Diagon Alley is exactly the same. I will get flamed for this -- but we are honestly glad Disney didn't get the rights because we think they would have dummed it down too much and kept the dark and scary stuff limited.

Didn't Universal have a connection with some cruise line years ago where some of their charactes appeared on the ship?

I think a themed HP could be fun, I am not a HP fan but it still could be fun.

I still think a Disney ship named "The Nightmare" with all Jack Skellington and/or Haunted Mansion themed would be super cool and fun.

If Universal ever did this, I'd pick up a second job just to go on the maiden voyage! In all seriousness, I think it's more likely that, just because of the scale difference between Universal and Disney, what we'd likely see is Universal reaching an agreement with Carnival or Royal Caribbean to have select Harry Potter themed sailings every year. That would be the only thing that might make me sail on another cruise line other than Disney!

If Universal ever did this, I'd pick up a second job just to go on the maiden voyage! I think the problem with that is whether Rowlands would ever agree to it. She was pretty hands on with every facet of the Universal projects for the parks. Her one non-negotiable requirement was that no character impersonators for the main characters be in any of the parks. Which is another reason why I don't think it would have worked with Disney.

the only ship I am aware of in the Harry Potter universe is Durmstrang's...the submersion feature would probably freak people out though.

Who wouldn't want to have their drink made by Isaac? He'd probably have to shoot a few of those cocked-finger gestures too.
