I would like the opinion of DISers my age (36) or older please.

I find that I get so nervous when I'm in line now. My heart is racing and my palms get sweaty which is ridiculous because I keep telling myself, "I've been on this so many times, relax!"

Had more fun two years ago at 50 than a few years back. I used to love roller coasters when I was a teen. After having two kids they started to bother me and I wouldn't go on them. Two years ago when we were at WDW for my birthday my two youngest and my older brother forced me on the coasters and I couldn't get enough. Did RNR, Space Mountain and even did the Hulk and Dueling Dragons at IOA.

I grew up 1 hour from Cedar Point and have loved coasters forever. When I was young I would do every ride in the park. Since I've had kids, though, the spinny rides and motion simulators (star tours, body wars) upset my stomach. I'm 40. I can still ride any coaster for hours, but I'd rather not be spinning (or simulating spinning).
BTW I rode Mission Space once and did NOT barf, but this last time I let the family go on without me.

Well let's just say I'm a bit over 36  and I like the rides better now then I did when I was younger. I was the biggest scaredy cat as a kid. Now I'll ride just about anything at least once.

One thing I won't go on is the Tea Cups. It's not the fear factor but the business of spinning. :headache: I know rides like that bother me so why torture myself. It took me 14 trips to finally get on the Carousel. It was OK but I'm not sure I'd do it every trip.

The most important thing is to enjoy yourself. If the thoughts of going on a particular ride makes you feel uneasy, just skip it. Except for the ToT of course. You really have to ride that! :teeth:

I'm 39, and ever since I was pregnant with my first, I can't do spinning rides. I'm not a huge fan of the simulated rides either, but I'll do them if hard pressed.

Have always been a huge fan of roller coasters though. I hope that never goes away for me!

I've noticed that in the past few years I've developed a much greater appreciation for the shows, I'm sure it's just a coincidence that this means I have less time to do the rides...

yeh..that's what I'll tell my family next trip......it's definitely not that I don't enjoy the rides as much as I get older....LOL

35 and Dizzy

I noticed this first at our local six flags, on the kiddie carousel!!
My DH laughed and said I was being ridiculous. Then it happened on the swings. When we took our last trip to Disney 10/03, I avoided rides but did manage to do the tea cups.

If you are under 35 and reading this and dont have this problem, enjoy your youth!!

Wishing everyone a "magical" day!

I'm 38 and still love riding every roller-coaster or fast spinning ride there is! I have yet to meet a ride I didn't like.

I remember reading something some time ago it has something to do with equilibrium and the changes in our eyes... ... nevertheless whatever it is it makes us less able to handle spins and drops the way we did when we were kids..

I find myself just in AWE of younger people who can handle the crazy spins and loops of amusement park rides. I used to spend HOURS in Coney Island without getting a bit queasy! Now I can only tolerate smooooooth rollercoasters and rides that don't throw me around.

Since I read about the sight thing I found that if I closed my eyes I can tolerate it better... but mostly I just avoid them.

Being a thrill ride fanatic this bugs the HECK out of me!

the change came for me somewhere between 42 and 44

Funny you should ask. One of my fears is not being able to tolerate the rides anymore. As DH and I age, we are planning trips more often just in case the age thing kicks in. Guess Mother Nature has that covered though - I believe we'll (and others) will just have a greater appreciation for the details we miss on the run between the rides. We'll have to slow down and enjoy the parks in a different way. Besides won't we be needed to push grandchildren's strollers one day?

We were in WDW earlier this month. I'm happy to say we're still going strong. Rode all the Mountains 4 times, Mission to Mars and Tower of Terror 3 times. I stopped riding the tea cups years ago when my DH would not stop spinning - not for a second. I'm no fool "no siree" - I'm not doing that again.

The good news for all of you 30 and 40 somethings - DH is 55 and I'm 53 - so enjoy - there are still alot of "coaster years" in your future. ENJOY ;)

Oh no, not me! I'm 40 and I LOVE the rides. No one will ride Tower of Terror with me, though! :(

Well, I'm 40 now and about 5 years ago at Busch Gardens I had my first "episode". I got on the Apollo's Chariot. I LOVE coasters and always have. After the first drop on Apollo's Chariot I got this queasy feeling in my stomach. There were about 6 more drops after that. By the time the ride ended and we were back in the drop off area, I thought I was going to toss my cookies in front of about 200 people. I couldn't get off that ride fast enough. I never did throw up but I was miserable the rest of the day. Then, at age 37/38 (last time I was at Disney), I went on all my favorite rides that I had done many times before. Rock N' Roller Coaster almost made me puke. I then got on ToT and thought I would lose it there. I just couldn't believe it. My mind still wants to ride, but my body won't let me. I believe it has something to do with the inner ear. As you age, that apparatus doesn't respond to the dramatic changes as well as it used to.
