I won't need to upgrade if I'm not going to Volcano Bay?

I'm using one of two passes I bought in 2011 and 2012. I don't plan on going to Volcano Bay during my three-day vacation in July, so I'm good to go, right?

It's a silly question, but I just want to know. I know you can upgrade tickets from one park to park-to-park and add days, but I wasn't sure how it works once VB opens.
