I wonder what I'll wear...

Right now the weather for Sunday's ING says low 48 and high 55 with few showers...

Given I've only run two 10Ks before and don't normally get up that early to run I'm wondering what I'll wear.

I'll probably wear one of my runningskirts and take a disposable poncho to throw out when it starts, but I can't decide if I will wear a long sleeve shirt or a short sleeve shirt.

What do you guys think? :confused3

Shan, I usually do not hit short sleeves until at least 55. I do, however, push up the sleeves on my long shirt. My issue is more post-run if I do not change right away, I get the chills and my LS shirt gives me a little more coverage.

Here I am worrying about what to wear for 40 and chance of rain. Right now I would LOVE to see 45-55 and sunny!! :cool2:

Warning: I have been known to give very bad advice before. I have also been known to completely change my outfit the morning of a race.

I am planning on wearing shorts, a very thin long sleeve shirt, my TNT singlet, and my thin running wind breaker.

Chances are though, that I will not wear both the running shirt and the windbreaker. Either one can tie around my waist if it gets hot. The windbreakers advantage is that it is slightly water proof (30% chance of rain)
and has pockets. The shirts advantage is that it is very light when I eventually have to tie it around my waist.

Yes, I CAN take the shirt off WHILE running even with a singlet over it. I got applauded for this at last years Country Music Half!

Cecilia...you have some skillz!! ;)

Shan...I tend to get very hot when I run, so I would go shorter sleeves vs. longer. But definitely make sure you have something to put on when you get done, because you'll chill down quickly.

A cap or visor will help keep raindrops out of your eyes. :)

Shan, I'd watch the hourly forecast and make a race morning decision. If it's gonna be chilly in the morning for you, wear something you can take off and tie around your waist. See what the temps are going to be around 9-10am as that should be the warmest part of the race, plan to be comfy during that time.

The chance of rain is so slight, I'd ignore it (but that's just me :) )

ETA - I second Betsy's suggestion on making sure you have something warm to change into after the race! You don't want to be cold when your body temp goes back down after running.

Shan - I'm with Scott on waiting until race morning to decide. I feel like I was in the same position as you around this time last year. I ran the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler as my first big race and the weather forecast was almost identical. I seriously brought 3 or 4 shirts to the race with me and didn't decide what to wear until it was time to check my bag. I was actually very happy with what I wore (the picture in my avitar is from that race). I didn't want to deal with layers that I might want to take off because I didn't want to have to worry about what layer my bib was pinned to (and I'm not as talented as Cecilia). I wore a long sleeve tech shirt that had a pretty deep zipper in the front. It was 50 degrees for the entire race. I did get warm at a few points but was fine when I rolled up my sleeves and unzipped my shirt. I think the zipper was key!

Good luck on your first half!
