I Wonder if Disney Will Get Mad if We Disassemble the Furniture. Sept/Oct 2024 TR! (Updated 2/12!)

Now our latest issue is trying to figure out what to pack. It's looking like next week could be rather damp there, so now I'm reconsidering what I want to bring and how much to pack.
It is really hard to pack for the weather in Florida. I have one of those lightweight rain jackets that folds into a very small package. I also like to throw an umbrella in the luggage. Other than that, I worry about how cold it is going to be. And even then, the weather will change. ;)

It really is, I was hoping for at least a few nice days this trip, but it's looking more and more like a rather dreary week to be going down there. Oh well, at least I'll be getting away from the 9 degree temps we'll be stuck with up here for a bit!

Day 6, Part 2: Behind the Seeds!

We last left off leaving the Seas.

We made the very short commute over to the Land pavilion, and made our way downstairs to the check-in for our tour, Behind the Seeds!

We got our waiver filled out and got our lanyards, then stood off to the side to wait for the tour to start. I also checked out some of the plant tissue cultures you could buy at the check-in desk to grow at home while we waited. There were a few I had my eye on, but since it was a rather bulky package I decided to wait until after the tour.

Our tour was at 10:15, so it wasn’t a long wait before they herded us backstage to begin!

We started in a room where they showed us about the good and bad bugs and the research they’re doing, which was cool. We watched a short video on it, before getting our headsets so we could hear
our guide for the rest of the tour.

We next headed outside backstage and made our way to the greenhouses. Crazy enough, they CM said we could take pictures throughout the tour, even the backstage areas, which was a surprise to me. Being a great trip reporter I obviously didn’t take any backstage pictures. :rotfl:

Before heading into the greenhouses we stopped at a window to see some trays of plant tissue cultures growing, while the CM explained the process. Cool thing, these are the same ones you can buy at the check-in desk!

The first greenhouse we went into we got a little treat, a slice of cucumber, which took everything in my soul not to make a joke about jumping out of a boat to get. :rotfl2:

After handing out the first round of cucumber slices, there were 3 left so the CM decided to give one of the extras to someone celebrating their birthday, another to a woman who was soooooo excited about everything, and then one to me since I seemed to have a “reaction” to talking about cucumbers on Living with the Land and I almost died of laughter. I’m pretty sure the CM and I were on the same page about the cucumber incident. Or maybe she knew I wanted to bring it up and appreciated I held my tongue! ::yes::

We then made our way through the greenhouses, the CM explaining different growing techniques to us. One of my favorite stops was to visit Stanley!

Stanley is this plant that we actually have at the botanical garden here in DC as well that I’m obsessed with. I need to look up the name, but the cool thing about this plant is if you touch it, it’ll fold it’s leaves in on itself as a defense mechanism, which is beyond cool. One of the few plants you’re not only allowed to touch, but encouraged to touch both at Disney and the botanical gardens!

We made our way through the fish tank area where we got to feed the fish (tilapia I believe). We then made it into the final greenhouse where we stopped to talk about more growing techniques, some of the plants, and of course take pictures in front of the Mickey shapped pepper tree. Yes, this is a pepper tree!

PXL_20241002_151929054.MP.jpg

We then made our way back the way we came and back onstage. We got our headsets handed in, and then made our way into the real world again. On the way out we stopped by the desk again so to buy a plant tissue culture. I had originally wanted to buy one of the basils, but they were all gone by that point. I ended up getting a miniature rose instead, which I’m actually really happy about since those are perennials so if I can keep it alive it could last a while! Spoiler, it was doing really well, until my cat ate it. Oops!

Next up: Back to the Food Booths!

How did you like the tour? Was it worth the time and money?

I considered buying one of those plants. Were there any problems getting it home?

ok that's hilarious! Good job not bringing it up LOL

Also did they talk about that room where they're doing science in partnership with the USDA? I've always wondered if that's real or just for show...or if it was something they used to do but not really anymore.

I’ve seen Stanley plants in the wild when I was in Honduras! Really startling if you don’t know what to expect.

I literally just laughed out loud at "until my cat ate it." Oh fur babies.

And you talking about getting the headsets reminded me of a minute on my last trip. Barb and I were walking through one of the parks (don't remember which one) and a tour went past in a long line. Barb said "Sure, the people behind the guide can hear." and sarcastically rolled her eyes. I said "Umm, did you see the headsets they were all wearing??" Barb said yes and wasn't it a waste to go on a tour and have to listen to music. Dear Barb - those allow them to hear the guide. She was FLOORED. And that's when I understand what it's like for my students to explain new technology to me. :rotfl2:

To this day I have never done a tour. Every time you talk about one, I add it to my Disney bucket list and yet, never book one. But hey - it's added back on (again.)

We really liked it, and it went by so quickly! It was also really inexpensive by Disney standards, with the AP discount it was only about $28/person. I actually wish it were a little bit longer, it was an hour, but it felt more like 20 minutes!

Nope, I was able to put it into my carry-on bag and there were no issues. The medium the plant is in is like this hard gel, so not really a liquid.

Haha, thanks! Yeah, that was a struggle, I really wanted to say something about it!

Ohhhhh, I feel like they mentioned something about a partnership with USDA, but unfortunately I didn't write it down so I can't remember exactly what was said. Guess I'll just have to book the tour again!

No way! That would be a bit startling seeing the plant react like that out in nature! Apparently they are actually a bit of a weed in areas it grows. I kinda wish they grew in my area, they're really cool!

Haha, yeah my new cat is a bit of a wild child and puts EVERYTHING in his mouth. I'm hoping to try again with the plant culture, but this time I'm going to keep it covered until it's warm enough to move it outside.

HAAA! That's too funny!

Haha, I mean it can be hard to squeeze a tour in, there is SO much to do in Disney. The nice thing about this one is that it's pretty inexpensive, and it's only an hour, so it's easier to fit into the schedule.

Hi Debbie! I’m all caught up on your latest adventure.

That is hilarious about the beds! I’m sure it wasn’t as hilarious to you at the time, but that is an engineering blunder that I’m sure has annoyed many guests. Other than the bed debacle your stay at the Contemporary looked lovely. Your glass mosaics were fun!

I did Behind the Seeds back in 2016 and thought it was fun! It was nice to try such a low-key tour (and super fun to go backstage - I felt like I wasn’t supposed to be there! )

Happy Disney Day!!! Can't wait to hear the rest of this trip report and all the new adventures at FARTs!

Yay! Thanks for following along!

Right?!?! I still cannot understand how they would think that was a good idea to connect the beds!

It is a really nice short tour, and I was so surprised when the CM said we could even take pictures backstage on it!

Hello Debbie I am a lurker. I read and love all your trip reports. I just had to post to say that we stayed in the tower at the Contemporary over Christmas. I am so happy you mentioned about the bed movements, lol. First night I woke up and I wondered why my bed was moving and I was not moving at all. Thankfully I remembered reading this trip report. Great information!!!!!

Aw, thank you for following along on the trip reports! Isn't that the weirdest design for the beds at the Contemporary? I really do not understand why anyone thought that was a good idea!

Day 6, Part 3: Back to the Food Booths!

We last left off finishing up our Behind the Seeds tour.

We were pretty hungry by then, so headed to the nearby food booth, Earth Eats!

Here we both go the short rib, and mom also picked up the lemon poppyseed cake.

Food in hand we set off to find a place to eat, and some shade. It was painfully hot this day! We’re used to the weather in late September, but this year it just seemed so much worse! It got into the 90s this day, which was surprising, usually we’ve found the end of September/beginning of October it’s in the mid-upper 80s. And those few degrees higher in the 90s made a big difference!

The only tables we found were in the sun, so we ended up finding a planter in the shade to eat at.

PXL_20241002_153751875.jpg

The food here was really good! The short ribs were super flavorful, and the cake was delicious, however super dense so was hard to finish.

I also caught some cute bees on the flowers behind us!

Finally, just as we were finishing up with our food, Guardians opened! It had been down for a long time!

So after eating we made our way over there.
We got I Ran as the song this time around, still no Disco Inferno, I swear they don’t actually play that song! :rotfl2: I also really dislike I Ran on that ride, it’s my least favorite of the songs (well, except perhaps Disco, but I wouldn’t know since that song avoids me like the plague.) Also, it seems we never got our photo from this ride, oh well.

After Guardians my mom had only one thing on her mind….a margarita! So we made our way over to Mexico and got in line for La Cava.

It was a pretty short wait, think just over 5 minutes, before we could go in and order.

Mom got the cucumber and I strayed from my usual avocado and got one I’ve never even heard of before, the Maelstrom!

Margaritas in hand we made our way out to enjoy off to the side of the pyramid.

Now I know we took pictures of them, but somehow those picture have disappeared, sorry!

The margaritas were good, and I was surprised at how spicy the Maelstrom was! Super spicy by Disney standards, but also sooooo good!

Once we had drank enough of the drink it wouldn’t slosh out of the cup while we walked, we headed out for a trip around WS!

Next up: Visiting the World!

Day 6, Part 5: Visiting the World!

We last left off starting a stroll around WS!

Just as we were leaving Mexico the mariachi band came out, at first mom wanted to stop, but quickly decided that it was too hot to just stand there in the sun, so we moved on. Seriously, the heat this day was no joke.

We strolled slowly, checking out the food items at the booths we passed, but nothing really stood out to us until we got to Japan.

Here I got the wagyu sushi and the sake!

Food in hand we made our way to one of my favorite hidden spots in WS back in the Japan pavilion. There is this little seating area that’s in the shade and kind of tucked out of the way so not many people know it exists. Sure enough we got there and it was deserted as expected.

The wagyu sushi was SO good. I wanted to try the eel sushi as well, but sadly we ran out of time this trip. I hope they bring this back next year so we can try it. The sake was also really good, very smooth.

Once we finished up eating, we continued our way around WS.

Our next stop was Brazil!

As we were approaching the booth I saw a few tables in the shade that were empty, so I had mom hold one while I ran to get the food. This was a brilliant idea since when I got back like 3 minutes later all the tables were taken!

Here we both got the cheese bread and I got the frozen drink.

The cheese bread was delicious as always. I really love that stuff! The drink was ok, I appreciated the frozenness of it since it was so hot out, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the flavor.

Once we wrapped up with that food we continued on our way.

Our next stop was France, but not the food booth, we were heading back to Les Halles! We wanted to pick up more pastries for breakfast. I ended up getting the quiche Lorraine, and mom got a pastry with pears.

Goodies in hand we made our way out of the park and back to the YC for a much needed break and AC!

I enjoyed some of my grapefruit beer while there as well, gotta love that stuff!

Next up: Hollywood Studios!
