It all started with a lie.My Dw had never been to disneyworld we were only married one year and in our late thirties.I booked us nine days at POFQ with seven days of tickets and a Christmas party to start it off.She had blisters by day one and owned mouse crocks but day five.I roped dropped to close every day only stopping for some table service meals and cigarettes *dont worry we quit smoking eventually*I t was awesome she had a blast but said next time we need more rest days.
Eleven months later in time for my fortieth birthday we had a 13 day trip booked for pop 8 days of park tickets one Christmas party and one day at typhoon lagoon. She made me promise more rest days we did but booked trips to the outlets the void VR and only stopped for cigarettes and table service meals. Rope drop to close plus staying up till 230 I finally crashed on day eight and slept till seven thirty o god I'm late let's go faster to make up for it. I went home ankle swollen to my knee size my shin raw from the hot tub.
We took 2019 off but I just booked 9 days at CB and 8 days of tickets. How do I slow down at the mousehouse.

So, my recommendation is to try to go to the room from around 2:00 until dinner and then hit the parks again after dinner. Afternoon is the most crowded time of the day so it’s the best time to rest without worrying about what you’re missing. Maybe not every day but try to do this as much as you can.

Also, I’ve never done this, but I think scheduling an afternoon at the spa is a great way to slow down as well.

We don't do "rest days", we do "rest hours". My DH and I are middle aged, Pooh sized, AP holders and we have been known to overdue it if we haven't been to the world in a month or so. When staying on property, we miss rope drop opting for breakfast instead so we don't feel rushed. We have fast passes that hopefully end by about 1 then head back to the room for a good swim or nap. Change clothes, then head out for the evening. We're totally refreshed and if we want to keep going after hours, there's usually some Magic Hours, a late dining reservation at a resort, or Disney Springs. Also, a break to just ride around on the monorail to look at decorations or do an out of park experience is great like mini golf, massage at a spa or sitting by a fire in the lobby of the WL. My feet no longer kill me after a day in the world and we have a lot more fun this way.

How do you slow down? Easy. Just slow down. What that actually looks like will be different for everyone, so there's no right answer. Some suggest mid-day breaks. Personally, I think they're a waste of time since you have to then commute back and forth. We also don't do rest days...also think they're sort of a waste. We're there for WDW, not a hotel pool. We prefer the style of doing either AM or PM in the parks. So if it's an AM, we'll be in the parks from 9:45am to maybe 4pm. If it's a PM in the parks, we'll be in the parks from 3pm until whenever. We never do open to close, never stay longer than we feel like staying and don't try to do as much as we possibly can every single day. Some days we hustle from ride to ride, some days we are far more relaxed. That's what works for us.

Yes, IMO the answer really is that simple. Just slow down. Doesn't take much to figure out that open to close every single day could wear people down...quickly.

We are a family of 5, with 2 of our kids now adults! We still take afternoon breaks on many of our days! It really helps make the trip much more relaxing and enjoyable for everyone! I also think the more times you visit WDW, it becomes easier to slow down and take some breaks! You don't have the feeling of "I have to see it all!" Because you have been before, and you most likely know you will be back again! I hope you have a wonderful vacation next time!!

Do you feel like you're not getting your money's worth if you don't stay from open to close every day? I've had to fight that feeling LOL but taking four grandkids and their parents last May really slowed us down in a good way. We had 10 days of park tickets, stayed at the Poly so people could go back and forth easily from MK and EP and we really loved the pace. One morning we did EMM at MK, then stayed for another couple hours and then were back at the resort in time for lunch and pool. Some went back for evening fireworks that night but most did not. It wasn't a "wasted day" as far as I'm concerned. Everyone was happy, relaxed and not burned out.

A friend said, "I wouldn't pay XX for WDW tickets just to spend a few hours in a park." I understand that sentiment, but why make anyone miserable, sore, hot and tired by "overstaying"? That is definitely not getting my money's worth to end the day with cranky kids or adults. Plus, we have paid for the resort as well so why not get to enjoy those amenities no matter which resort.

A mind shift was how I was able to slow down. My husband was already there - I just needed to adjust my thinking about what is "worth it" and was very happy I did. We had few if any meltdowns with the kids ages 1 through 5 and everyone left wanting to go back.

Slow down what is that? I am 58 and do what you do every trip. Except our trips are 10-12 days. Now what you can do is start walking a couple of months before your trip to get your feet in shape. I have a rule of 6 to 12 miles a day of walking. With my ipod its a breeze now.

Get plenty of walking in before our trip. Make sure you have good shoes that you are wearing.
Some people like taking a break in the middle of the day. In the summer heat, a really good idea.
Others don't. Both work. YOu just need to decide whih group you are in and make it work.
If you are going to take a mid day break, plan it in your day like everything else.

Could have been written by us!

Never just sat by the fire at WL, will have to try that. There are times that I may take 3 or more showers in a day. We like the mid-afternoon break, especially during the hotter months.

Somehow, at almost 300 pounds, I find it amazing that i can more around way more that people that we have gone with that are 10 or even 20 years younger, and much more in-shape than I am at 50...

I'd reccomend you buy an annual pass if you're going that much.

We live an hour away from WDW, so going from open to close isnt a major thing. When we do stay, we usually go to the parks for a couple of days then have a day off and relax at the pools or do whatever. We have passes so we don't need to spend the whole day at the park. sometimes we'll ride a ride in the day, come back to our hotel around 5pm, eat dinner and go back to the park.

Our last trip was 11 nights. We planned but part of the plan was to NOT do RD. At least not every day. We also did TS breakfast for 4 of those days - it starts the day off a bit slower. We also did some TS lunches to break up the day. Sometimes it's nice just to sit at a TS for a bit to regroup. We did do late nights ( if not to park close it was pretty close ) . We also plan a non-park day every 3 days. It's great for being by the pool, DS, hotel touring and Disney Springs. It's also good sleep in days.

I cant stop the fun to slow down till it hurts

I'm a server I started walking for this trip 15 years before.

Go during summer. The heat will slow you down, and midday breaks will feel good. Resorts are cheaper in summer than in the fall, so you might be able to afford a standard room at a deluxe resort like Animal Kingdom Lodge. Staying at a really nice resort makes it a lot easier to stay out of the parks. You can swim in great pools, relax in a hot tub, watch the animals, and have very nice meals, all without leaving your resort.

Or have children. That will slow you down, as well.

If you can do that style of touring in the Florida climate, AWESOME!

Maybe try exploring some other Disney things in the Bubble that are not in a Park? Like have you gone around the monorail loop for fun, appetizer-hopped through Disney Springs, etc?

Sit by the pool, go to a resort bar for afternoon cocktails, take a nap!

We will be 46 on this next trip, 43 on our last trip. No plans to change the way we tour, but we never go open to close. We always buy hoppers, go one park in the morning, hang at pool in the afternoon and another park at night. Usually with a sit down dinner mixed in there somewhere.
Also don't feel the pressing need for rope drop anymore since fast pass plus.
We do 10 days with 9 days hoppers, so plenty of time to hit all the parks without needing to go open to close. :)

One thing we've done to slow it down a tad is to take a boat ride somewhere--anywhere. We usually stay at the Fort, so taking a boat from there to a resort like the Contemporary etc., or to the MK does it for us. We've been known to get on one of the paddle boats to just enjoy being on the water. Last trip (over Christmas) we went by boat to POFQ to get some beignets--that was a blast. It's an enforced slow down, catching-your-breath, reflective time.

Our first trip almost 20 years ago was similar to yours minus the smoking.

The next time we went, I was recovering from surgery, and I only got permission from my doctor to travel if I promised to nap every afternoon. That trip was amazing. We still managed to do almost everything we wanted to do without overdoing it. My kids and DH sometimes napped with me, but most of the time, they swam at the pool until it was time to shower and get ready for dinner. We still went out to the parks most nights.

Now all of us prefer to spend our afternoons at the pool. We don't usually nap, because we no longer stay out crazy late, so there isn't any need. The kids don't really like the crowds, so except for a night at Fantasmic, and maybe one night in MK for fireworks, we usually stay at our resort to watch fireworks.

My operation forced us to travel differently one year, and it completely changed how we do WDW. The nice thing is that we get less blisters.

Speaking of breaks, does anyone else love a nice foot massage after a long week in the parks? Feels like your feet are going to crumble, but man does it feel good at the same time!
