I was looking at rental car prices and had a stroke

$76 a day at MCO? Are you kidding? For a compact?

I'm looking at Tue Feb 22 - Fri Feb 25. Thinking about cheating on Mickey and going to Universal for a few days using some credit card airline points and staying in a cheap hotel. I was NOT prepared to see $400 for a four day rental. That blows my budget.

Am I missing something?

I have two codes that would bring it down to $33 per day with National. However they are corporate codes and National could ask to see corporate ID. If you want I will PM you the codes but if they ask to see a corporate ID and you don't have one they will charge you rack rate. I've never been asked for ID but its possible...

it's ALWAYS raining and freezing cold this time of year!

We always travel to Florida on President's week and always have fantastic weather. There is nothing like sitting by the pool with temps in the eigthies while it is snowing back in CT.

Yup! I love traveling in January and February just to escape the cold weather in DC. Nothing beats laying on a beach in the Caribbean while its snowing back home then walking into the office on Monday sporting a nice tan! :goodvibes

Have you tried Dollar? Get yourself an Orlando Magicard, visitorlando.com/magicard, information from Mousesavers and use corporate code oi1054 (from the magicard). You can get some pretty decent rates with this code.

Thanks for the info on Dollar. I got a much better rate using them.

Do they have a kiosk?

If I book now and find a better deal can I cancel the reservation without a penalty?

Thanks!!!

Thank you! I think I'll book it and then check around for other options.

Thanks again!

So I got a compact car for 8 days in April for $268. I'll hang onto that for now and see if I can get anything cheaper- or larger for the same price. The size of the car only matters when we're driving to and from the airport with luggage. We can limit how much we take :)

Thanks again everyone!

Could you add an upgrade coupon to that?

I have noticed ridiculously high prices for the week that we are going. I booked six months out for March 19-27. It actually was cheaper because of our flight times being so early returning to stay an extra day (for the car rental). I ended up getting a standard through Alamo for $228 total. Now that same car is listed at times at $1000+. It has jumped all around so I keep checking. HTH

I called to check on renting a large SUV for our trip in May and I was quoted 1200.00. FORGET it!! We will be driving two cars down.;)

I am having the same problem. For 5 nights in June the cheapest I can find is$476.92. That would be renting and returning to the Doubletree. It is almost $100 cheaper than renting at MCO, but we would still have to get to the Doubletree from MCO. We have 6 people so we need an SUV or Minivan, and they are expensive!

IF you are pretty confident of your travel dates etc. try booking with priceline.com

I saved $422 when I booked through them for a 9 day mini van rental. I bid for $34 a day and it was accepted. My rental is through Budget for the end January

A compact with Thrifty or Dollar is $38/day or $151.65 incl taxes.

Still just seeing $65 a day, but thanks for the effort everyone!

I was playing around with a bunch of different combinations of things, and found that booking a hotel on I Drive near Universal and the rental car together on Expedia was giving me much more manageable numbers (ie hotel and car for $125 LESS than the car alone.) I tried every company, every code, coupon and everything else known to man.

Wish DH would make a decision so I could either book this or a trip to 'Mickey West.' And if we do wind up in Orlando, only at Universal, I have to start figuring out how to deal with no visits to Mickey this trip.
