I want to participate in the 2012 Disney Princess Half Marathon!

If you start training on a treadmill, start transitioning to a slight increase in incline. Once you've been consistent for a couple of weeks, bump the incline to .5 and then 1 and maybe 1.5. This will better acclimate you for when you transition outside where you will deal with more resistance on that road as opposed to a treadmill. Also the slight incline helps with preventing shin splints if you are prone to that.

Good Luck!

Good to know about the shin splints.. I didn't know that would help. I am also wanting to participate in this for 2012. As for 2011, I'm thinking Expedition Everest--I should be ready by then. Started John/Jenny's program mid October. Took a two week break (darn bronchitis) and am back on tomorrow. If I can do this, anyone can. I have asthma but keep at it!! I have never ran/jogged in my life and find it addicting.

Count me in for the 2012 Princess 1/2! I played with the idea of running this year, but decided on the Royal Family 5K for this year instead so will be heading down for the Princess 1/2 weekend next month. Up until this I have never been a runner, but have found I really enjoy it. I do use intervals and still walk more than I run, but I'm so proud of myself for sticking to training for the 5K and looking forward to 2012.

I'm interested in this goal as well. I haven't read all the posts but will check back here tomorrow to catch up and participate. I have about 100 pounds to lose and have lost 20 doing the South Beach Diet. I plan on either restarting the SBD or WW soon and walking, then starting the C25K program...already downloaded it on my ipod.

Ohhh me! me too! :woohoo: The Princess 2012 is my long-term goal, but I'm trying not to get too excited about it b/c I'm unsure if I can afford to GET there! We are planning a trip the beginning of October this year, so I'm going to do the Halloween 5K, and then hopefully I can do the Princess, even if I just take a short solo trip next Feb. to do it!

I hope we can build a good support group, having a goal helps my training tremendously, but having support and that push for those times when you really don't wanna... ;)

Wow! I didn't know there was a Halloween 5K...is it at Disney? What's the route?

I was told to sign up for a 5K before I consider a 1/2 marathon and even though October is a little far out, I'm really interested in this.

Oh, I forgot to tell everyone... I offically signed up for the 5K I mentioned earlier. It's on February 19th so I have one month to prepare for it!

Way to go!!! I'm excited to hear about how it goes! I need to do a 5K this spring and a 10K this fall before the half.

Sending you good training vibes as you continue on your path :goodvibes

Yes! I think last year was the first year. It's with the Wine & Dine Half Marathon weekend. They do Mickey's Halloween 5K through Magic Kingdom!!! Last year it was Saturday morning, Oct. 2nd and I believe it's Saturday Oct. 1st this year! :cool1:

As Soon as it's open for sign ups- I am signing up for the Halloween 5K :)
I am so excited to do this and can't wait for the 1/2 Princess. I may have to walk/ jog it but I am going to do it!

I know I can do a 5K no problem- I just want to do it fast enough to show people that I did it!! I am about at a 13 minute walk mile and am almost at the point where I am not huffing and puffing and wanting to die after walking that mile. Next week I go 1& 1/2 miles and as soon as I can breathe normal doing that, I am on to more miles.
As DH says If I can trek all day through 3 parks and never flinch I can do a 5K :lmao:

Even though we live an hour away DH has said we can stay the weekend for the 5K

Wow, I didn't know about the Halloween one. I know they canceled a few of them. I am signed up for Expedition Everest in MAy. That will be my FIRST 5K. My friend and I are planning the princess 1/2 in 2012. I didn't think I'd like running...in fact, I didn't like it until a couple weeks ago. ;-)

I hope they don't cancel it! Now I've got my heart set on it! On the official page from last year, I found this:

Is there anyone from the south central PA area here? I would love to meet someone to do local races with. This is my first time in the running world, but not the fitness world. I am doing the March for Babies 5k in May, but nothing else yet.

Good Luck everyone!!! Has anyone gotten a confirmed date yet?

I'm in the same boat. We can do this! Congrats on the 20 lbs so far! I just signed up for WW. I plan on getting my meal plan for next week together over the weekend.

I hope everyone is doing well. I haven't been training at all over the last two weeks. I could make excuses, but the truth is I just can't get motivated. I printed out this years princess half program to help motivate me.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Oh good! I wonder which one(s) they canceled then? :confused3

I'm in ladies! I just finished week 1 of C25k and I'm feeling really excited! Go team Donald! For me something that has been super motivating is reading some PTR's and TR's of the the people that have already run the 1/2 marathons! Good luck everyone! Maybe we should make an "official" thread of the 2012 Princess!

Okay, you have totally motivated me to run in the princess marathon, too! That's now my long-term goal, and I'm so excited. :woohoo: Love my new ticker, too! :lovestruc

Thanks, and good luck with your training. I ran/walk two miles both yesterday and today. Yikes. I gotta lot of working out to do! ;)

I love your ticker too!

Where did you find that date at? I have looked and could not find it! A date makes it so much more real! Can't wait! See you all there!

I saw the date on another thread where they had a "save the date" on a flyer for the 2011 Princess 1/2 participants! I believe it was Feb. 24-26th, 2012 (but I've heard this could be subject to change, they do that occasionally)

I cant believe I'm doing this! I'm in! As of right now I can run 3/4 of a mile without stopping! Some how that doesnt seem so exciting, but I am excited to join you gals in talking about this for the next year.

Any idea when registration might be? What month did they start it for this years race?

This year registration started in July for the Princess so there is lots of time. I think it is at 95% now and the race is in four weeks.

There is plenty of time to get yourself started working on this. I don't think I started the C25K until April or May last year and I'm doing 6 miles this morning for my Princess training.

FWIW I never run a whole mile -- I do run/walk intervals. Much easier on my 50 year old, 200+ body! :goodvibes

You can do this ladies! :thumbsup2

You (we!) can do this!!! :cheer2:

Oh good! I'm down this weekend, trying to rest my knees b/c I pushed too hard starting off and was having a lot of pain. I've been having to remind myself that I have over a year to train and I need to take it slow and not injure myself! Harder said than done for me, however.
