I want to participate in the 2012 Disney Princess Half Marathon!

I am pretty sure the Princess half marathon was in March for 2010, and this year coming up 2011, it is at the end of February.

I am hoping they keep it the same for next year.

The marathon, half-marathon etc, (not the princess one) is at the beginning of January.

Oh good! Thanks for the information!

So I came home and told DH about the 5K on February 19th! He said to go for it. He'll watch the kids or maybe bring them out to cheer me on!!

I didn't get to walk this evening. I've had kidney stones for the past week, and they started giving me fits again this afternoon at work. Doctor gave me some medicine to help me pass them, but it hasn't helped much. Luckily they don't hurt 24 hours a day, or even every day. I've got my bag packed so I can change into workout clothes and walk at the park after work tomorrow. I'm not even coming home before I exercise!

Good for you on getting your plan in action. Let us know how it goes tomorrow.

Hey - it seems like a bunch of Team Donald are interested in the 2012 Princess. I'm going to get back into working out - in fact, have my stuff on right now!

Sandi, thanks!

Tink, hope you got your workout!

Well, I walked. It took me 19 minutes to walk 1 mile. I tried to run, but THAT wasn't happening! :rotfl: I'm sure I looked like a crazy person to the tween boys running! :rotfl: It started raining about 1/2 way through, but I kept going. I was proud of myself because I passed 2 short cut bridges, and didn't take either one of them. :cool1: Trust me, that IS something I would have done in the past, but I really wanted to see how long it would take me to walk the mile.

Now I know... so I have to shave off about 5 minutes so I can do the Princess Half in 2012! Hopefully, that will give me time to stop and take a couple pictures along the way. :lmao:

I just want to thank everyone for your encouragement and advice. I know this is going to be a long journey, but I'm ready!

How is everyone's training going... those going in 2011 and 2012?

I would love to do this. Right now I am at 255 pounds and am a real couch potato. I plan on stating on my treadmill tonight. Just walking at first to build up distance then I will try running. Does anyone have any tips on how to begin?

i decided last may i wanted to run the 2012! im not at all a runner. at all. in fact, my life motto has been "dont run unless you're being chased" BUT, im a little over 200 pounds, and somehow, this race completely motivates me. The problem is, no one around me is motivated to stick with it. I gave up in August when my running partner quit. I started over about a week ago, i can run for about 2 minutes. I'm going to disney in a month :yay:, and im hoping to be far enough a long in a month to run a few trails while im there for inspiration.

I suggest that you find a "Couch to 5K" group in your area. If you do an internet search, you're bound to find one. That's how I started and I found the group to be supportive and helpful. There are training schedules for every ability level. I ran my fist 5K in early December and am now running 3 times a week with other exercises scattered in on the other days. I'm running by myself, but I really enjoy that "alone time." I run 10 minutes then walk 2 minutes or run 5 minutes then walk 1 minute for at least an hour when I do my running days. That works better for me than running the whole time.

Good luck in finding plans that work for you.

I'm right there with you ladies, go us! :cheer2: I am not sure how we will afford to get to WDW for the race, but it's at least a really positive goal instead of watching the scale. I've lost about 10 lbs of 80 so far, and I'm almost done with the C25K, then I will start working toward the 10K! Pretty soon my hubby is going to have to work to keep up with me!! It's treadmill only for me right now, I live in ND so the winter is just too cold. We can do this, it's my quickest way back to the World!

If you start training on a treadmill, start transitioning to a slight increase in incline. Once you've been consistent for a couple of weeks, bump the incline to .5 and then 1 and maybe 1.5. This will better acclimate you for when you transition outside where you will deal with more resistance on that road as opposed to a treadmill. Also the slight incline helps with preventing shin splints if you are prone to that.

Good Luck!

Anyone else wanting to lose weight and train for the 2012 Princess 1/2 Marathon?

IObstacle #2 is taken care of! DH agreed that if I lose weight and get in shape, I can participate in the race! Granted he agreed to it because he doesn't think I will do it, but nonetheless, he agreed. I know that makes him sound unsupportive, but he's not. He is actually the most supportive husband I know. He just knows my history. I know if I make the effort, he will be supportive 110%.

Is there anyone else out there who is planning to lose weight and train for the 2012 Disney Princess Half Marathon?

Are you sure we don't have the same Hubby??:lmao:
Mine felt SO bad after buying a HUGE bag of chocolate at DTD.
he knew I was on team Donald and KNOWING I wanted to lose weight and get healthy. So he said if you will do it I will pay for it.
So I am doing the couch25K program- Slow going but I will get there. More of a fast walk for now. As soon as I can register for the Halloween 5K I am going to. I want to jog it at least and I am going for the 1/2 Princess in 2012.
I am a certified couch potato and exercise to me is running to a sale at the mall or for the dessert table.
Thanks to WISH and TEAM DONALD:cheer2: I am really working hard. I WANT A MEDAL. After seeing all those people in the parks that day wearing their medals, I want one!
I Love how supportive everyone is with information.
Hope to see everyone at the 2012 Princess!

Thanks for providing the link. Now we know the 2012 dates. Everyone should put 2/24/2012 through 2/26/2012 on their calendars. I'm fired up!

Definately save the date but be aware that they had another date for the 2011 race on the 2010 program so it is subject to change -- it looks like they are liking this end of February date for now. princess:

Good point. I'd forgotten about that.

Thought that you all might like to see the program for the 2011 Princess race that just came by email! http://espnwwos.disney.go.com/media/ewwos/pdf/Princess11Program.pdf

You all will definately be ready for 2012 -- you can do it! princess:

Thanks so much for the program! It's such an inspiration. I've been reading the 2011 thread, and am so excited for everyone who is going this year. I can't wait to hear about everyone's experience!

I'm a total couch potato too, but I am determined to do this.

I haven't done too well lately. For the last two weeks I've hardly walked. I was working a lot of overtime trying to complete a project. I finished it Friday so I'll be back to normal working hours. Not to mention I fell at work and really hurt myself. I couldn't move for two days, but I'm feeling better now. Excuses, excuses, I know.

I've already got my bag packed to go for a walk after work Tuesday, and I'm going out for a walk later this afternoon.

I was hoping the 2012 princess half would fall on Mardi Gras weekend, but no such luck. Mardi Gras is the Tuesday prior to the princess half. I'm off work for Mardi Gras so I hoping to be able to use those days to my advantage. Oh well!!

Unless things change, this will be a solo trip (no DH or kids) so I'm trying to decide if I want to do this by myself or ask a friend or two to join me. Any thoughts?

My goal is to participate and finish the 2012 Disney Princess Half-Marathon. I need support.............. Although I lost 50+ pounds in 2006 and have kept it off my exercise program has taken a tail-spin since November 2008. It is time to get back in shape. I would like to correspond with other women who would also like to participate in the 2012 run. I am not very disciplined and will have to be in order to train physically and mentally, I will also have to save the money for the trip, not good at that either. Look forward to hearing from others.

Welcome!! Congratulations on maintaining your weight loss. You're right... it is going to take a lot of discipline to train for the princess half, but it will be totally worth it when you cross that finish line!! Good luck on your journey!

We can do this!!

Oh, I forgot to tell everyone... I offically signed up for the 5K I mentioned earlier. It's on February 19th so I have one month to prepare for it!
