On quite a few of the sites I shop on (amazon & lowes come to mind), while reading the reviews I see reviews from folks that were GIVEN the item for their "honest" review. The last one I saw was for a $500 sink! Anyone know how to get on that kind of a list? I'd be TOTALLY willing to give my review to get free stuff!!

Review, review, review! My understanding is that those people are prolific reviewrs and are approached by the various customers.

those 'reviews' are usually scams..... I know this b/c I keep getting offers to do this with junk on amazon....I tried it once or twice, but the problem was it was junk! so in order to get my freebies and gc for doing this,I'd have to lie. and I HATE fake reviews that lie about products. So I never tried it again. I just deleted an email the other day offering me stuff for reviews on amazon.

^^ Same here. While I don't mind giving unsolicited reviews at some of the reputable travel sites, those who offer some expensive 'free' gift are usually a scam or certainly not the item you expected or there is some other big catch to it. Used to participate on another survey website and eventually gave up. The surveys were poorly constructed, tedious to complete and seemed to ask the same question in 5 different ways and I honestly have NO idea what they ever do with the data. If only those who participate provide survey input, you are not getting a truly random set of replies. Easy to see how they can make faulty conclusions from those who do provide replies.

There is some website I found recently (can't remember the name) that you have to pay upfront for higher priced items, review them, and I think they'll reimburse you, but you have to qualify first and by qualifying you have to be active on social media mostly. I didn't qualify for an expensive robot vacuum on one but then they asked for additional people and I made that cut. Problem was I had to buy it from Amazon and they would reimburse me only the difference between Amazon's higher price and the price the manufacturer or whomever was selling it for. In other words I would get a cheaper robot vacuum because I still had to pay out of pocket. The reimbursement was maybe only $150, but I would still be spending around $300 after the reimbursement!

Amazon had the Vine program that was totally legit. I was in it for many years. I’m not sure if it’s still around or not. To get invited, you needed to be a top Amazon reviewer.

Just a note, these items aren’t completely free. The reviewer will receive a 1099 for the value of the items at tax time. Sometimes, this is still a great deal, but many items are new with no reviews when you get them, you can end up with garbage and still have to pay 25%ish tax on it.

I was also approached by many sellers wanting to send me things to review, but almost all of them were cheap junk from China.
