Some time back, Goofygirl here on the boards, and while she was a DIS moderator, spearheaded a charity drive in which Give Kids the World ultimately was taken on by the DIS as the 'official' charity of the DIS. The drive culminated in a 'chat-a-thon', using the DIS chat as a focal point to raise money, along the lines of other 'charity-a-thons'. I think a pretty fair amount of money was raised but I never really saw what the final results were and it ultimately pretty much died off after a time.

Just giving a bit of historical background of charity work here. I do think many here are good hearted and with proper planning and coordination, something could come to fruition.

But I also agree that any donations should help people right here in the US. There are many kids in our own country suffering. We don't need to leave "home" to find them.

I will be happy to take the lead for organizing a charity drive to help children/ families here in our country. My personal choice would be The Sunshine Foundation because they aren't necessarily limited to only those that are terminal but I'm open to the majority's choice. Email me if there is an interest so I can begin an emailing list for communication and information. We can talk aboout it all day. Now is the time to make it happen. First we need a goal.

I, too, would be willing be counted "in". I really like the idea of helping a family got to WDW since that is how we all "met" and what keeps us tied together.

Maybe DU could help plan it. They are able to watch for codes so the money would go farther.

I don 't know how a family would be chosen, but I think we could help lots of familes!
