I'm so sorry--while my issue is different..our "dream vacation" is next week and i may be benched.

So I can relate.

Things are looking better. Doc says I am no longer contagious, DH has shown no signs of getting sick. I got 2 prescriptions for the dizziness/hearing distortions and will start them today. I am a super-clean person (came with my dental training) so I know I haven't exposed anyone to this. I even keep a large Purell in my car drink holder - that's how germ-obsessed I am even when not sick! I am very aware of limiting the spread of any illness.
Plans are to stay in bed another two days and hopefully drive down on Saturday.

True that it is contagious...but once you have broken out with the blisters, you are no longer contagious.
One of my friends at work just acquired this from her son and the doctor told her that since she has already broken out, that she may return to work if she feels up to it (we work in a hospital, so I'm guessing that is sound advice).
Go enjoy your family vacation-if you have to take some rest periods, do so.

That's what i've heard too, and that you are much more contagious the day before come out with it than after you have had it a few days, and once the blisters are broken, you aren't contagious anymore.

You're kidding? Everything I've ever read has said the virus remains communicable up to three weeks after the sores appear.

Nurse friend just told me it is contagious for a week, with the first 3 days being the most dangerous. They recommend children stay out of school for the first 3-4 days of the illness.

After the first week, it is only contagious via the stool, but can be contagious for several weeks this way.
