I'd guess somewhere between zilch and zero. Never say never, but tourism has been way up. Disney doesn't need to offer deep discount codes to fill rooms right now. There'll probably be some sort of discount, but not nearly as good as in the past. And it may not always be in the form of room codes. We're likely to see more schemes like the Free Dining with a Package offer. (No, I wasn't impressed with it, either.)

I rather liked the old way on the AP rates and codes, still holding out for them. Do not care for the best rate plan. As for free dining, we're not interested, don't use the dining plan your way either. After 30 trips in so many years, we know where we want to eat, what it will cost and its alot cheaper finding your best liked eateries and paying as you go. We have found over the years, that Disney meals are quite large, even the fast food kind, and by my wife and I splitting most meals, we're not stuffed like pigs and miserable throughtout the day and can enjoy some of the cart treats occasionally. I've seen way too many families in the resturants order a meal for each member and when finished, leave most of the food on their plates. They then return home and complain how expensive the food was at WDW. It's all well and good to order like that, but the meals are huge, but take all you want but eat all you take. Hate to see that at the buffets. I'll eat when I want, where I want and pay as I go.

While tourism is up, there is no reason for Disney to offer codes to the general public. I will miss the days of deep discounts, but we will still go. It just means we'll have to save more. AAA will be my only source of discounts.

what kind of discount rates do you get with aaa is it worth joining just for the hotel discount????

AAA discounts according to Mousesavers website:
Value Season: 15% off at the Disney Deluxe and Home-Away-From-Home resorts, or 20% off at the Value and Moderate resorts and the Ft. Wilderness campsites
Regular Season: 10% off at the Disney Deluxe and Home-Away-From-Home resorts, or 15% off at the Value and Moderate resorts and the Ft. Wilderness campsites
Peak Season: 10% off at the Disney Deluxe and Home-Away-From-Home resorts, or 15% off at the Value and Moderate resorts.
No discounts during christmas and New Years holidays

Is it worth it? Well that depends on when you go, how much you're saving vs the cost of buying AAA. If you break even, not worth it, if you do better than breaking even than worth it.

Will you use it for your car at all?

Hi NJcarita! We have a AAA membership for other reasons. The WDW is an added benefit. ;) You can get from 10% to 20% off rack rate, depending on time of year and hotel class. You can use the package + dining, and they will still give the discount on the room portion of the package.
Other reasons why we keep our AAA are for the dmv services without long lines, hotel and park ticket discounts across the country, towing services (if needed), plus they'll change a flat tire for us. :flower:
For us, AAA is worth it because we use it all the time. Many local restaurants offer AAA discounts as well! :flower:

Yep you definately won't see 49/night. At best with an AP rate you will see 59. And as for general codes, I wouldn't hold my breath. None have been released this year so far.

I would definatly consider AAA.

I'm going to disagree with those saying tourism is up so there is no need for discounts. If that was true, why did they just have the free dining offer? That was a much bigger discount than $49 value rooms. I'm not sure how you can say that you aren't impressed with it. I guess if you are going solo, maybe it's not as good as a room discount, but if you have 3 or 4 people going, even if you don't eat much, free food is worth a lot more than $30 off a room. The free dining offer tells me that Disney does still see the need to have promotions and discounts to bring more people in.

And there were in fact general public discount codes this year, just not since April. Probably because the 50th celebration brought in more people. Obviously nobody knows for sure what we'll see next year, but I'm guessing there will be some kind of discounts.

The free dining was offered during prime hurricane season. After the hit FL took last year this is a great way to entice visitors down who would not have because of it.

As for codes this year, yes there were some until April but those were released last year in December. None have been released this year.

Ok, I have to agree with mill4023. I think there will be discounts later this year - just don't know what form they will take. It could be that Disney will now go for discounted packages instead of room only codes. For us the free dining is a great deal because we really enjoy the sit down restaurants and they are expensive, so I'd be happy with that.

Tourism is back up but I don't know, I keep checking our dates and there is availablity all over the place (late Oct and first of Nov). Surplus rooms = discount and it's as simple as that :)

So I'm staying positive!

I think the beginning of the 50th celebration got bookings up and messed up the chance of codes for people in April/May/early summer also. Also the fact that there were all those hurricanes in August/Sept last year - may have got people to move their dates up into that late spring/early summer time frame this year, also filling rooms and denying discounts during that time. Free dining was offered to fill rooms during hurricane season this year. But parts of late fall/early winter are traditionally slow times at WDW too so I think the discounts will come.

Good luck, hope y'all get what you're looking for.

I'll toss my opinion into this pot, too. I think that MANY people who already were planning a trip at the end of this year/beginning of next year changed their plans (I've read many posts on these boards to that effect) and are going early to take advantage of the free dining...which expires in October. So I'm guessing that the resorts/parks will be more vacant than last year after October during value season. I would guess that Disney will need to come out with another incentive (especially during value season) to attract more people to come to the resorts since those people that would've normally come during that time did the free dining. Just another opinion...but it sure sounds nice!

actually we are a fmaily of 5

we usually ate breakfast in our rooms ( cereal milk, donuts etc)

ate a late lunch ( hubby and i shared--- 3kids usually shared 2 meals)

and usually ate a late snack in our rooms

last trip we only had 2 major sit down meals--- lunch at castle and sci fi diner

so for me a great room discount works better than free dinning for my budget and my figure :rotfl2:

I think it's very unlikely that there will be many room only discount codes in the future. It's obvious that Disney has decided to amke other offers like free dining, which may appeal to big eaters, but not to me.

I am not completely giving up hope however. I keep reading on these boards how the first week of August has always been very busy, yet this year, with only 11 days to go until August, rooms at ALL of the WDW hotels are VERY plentiful. In the past, I have had difficulty getting a room at WL, but I was able to call CRO 2 weeks ago and get an AP rate, and I could have had any room type I wanted at an AP rate. (I don't have an AP but will be getting one before I check-in - it saves me $500 over the AAA rate - more than the cost of the pass - and saves me $700 over the rack rate.

There are no discounts being offered during the first 3 weeks of August other than AP and Florida Resident. With the new AP rules kicking in during October, it appears that the AP benefits will be minimal in the future as well. I think the availability may be due to the fact that no one wants to pay the rack rate. I'm hoping this is the case and that Disney will catch on that they have to offer some kind of incentive to fill their hotels.

We recieved the dining package one and we also have a pin number associated with our name in the system or so I have been told not that we ever use any of the stuff sent to us. We always book DVC and move on teh weekends to All Stars or go to the coast.

We are planning on going in December also and I am not holding my breath for discounts unfortunately...which figures we have not gone in 6 years and there have been discounts for all 6 of those years!
Now when I have looked at booking a room in the first two weeks of December there has not been a whole lot of availability. I know Dec 3 to 11 there is very little available and we ended up changing our dates to the following week Dec 11 to 19 because there was a little more available (but definately no standard rooms at resorts I was interested in ...WL, AKl, YC).

I personally would love the free dining plan because knowing my food is paid for would be great. I don't know that we would do every appetizer and dessert though...but it would be nice to have.
