"I want more....and I know I shouldn't" - 2 Food & Wine Festival Trips - 12/10 Complete! Goofy's/STK

Great job on the 10K!

That's a shame they took fettucine alfredo off the menu at Brown Derby. We haven't been there yet but I love salads like the one your husband had, and the duck confit looks delicious too.

I love me some cheese (and shrimp, love those tacos). Looks like La Hacienda was a win!

Thank you! Hope you had a wonderful wedding and honeymoon! I need to catch up on your report (I've been a great poster but an awful reader lately!)

Salads are a nice healthy option to mix up our meals with - although honestly, I don't think I'll ever beat the Salad I had in the North Shore in Oahu at that Vegan Café. I still crave that and I'm very much a carnivore!

Congrats on the half!! I agree no shame whatsoever in listening to your body and anyone swept still got a lot further than everyone (like me) who was still sleeping!!!

And now with running over you can really enjoy some food & wine!!!!

Thank you! I'm happy I got as far as I did all things considered! I mean the longest run I did was like 6.8 miles in September so I was happy I did as much as I did now!

And enjoy Food & Wine I did! Bring on the alcohol!

Wow I was a bunch of updates behind! I remember seeing your martini from Flying Fish on FB. I had just finished a grueling rehearsal and that spurred me to begin my evening with my favorite version of a Martini.

Your dinner at Flying Fish looked great those are the exact dishes I would order from there. I'm glad to hear your husband is reincorporating chicken and fish into his diet.

Your meal at Tiffin's looked really good, I may have to consider that place when we ever get back.

I admire you for sticking with the races even without training. I know that I wouldn't have that much conviction.

Il Mulino looked like a good meal, we just never seem to get to any of the restaurants at the Swolphin. I will definitely not be staying there without tubs in the room!

I know I've missed a few updates, but I'm finally caught up here. Last weekend threw me for a loop and I've spent all week trying to catch up everywhere.

I've been pumping the updates out the next few days as I have a feeling I'm going to be busy soon and I don't like leaving people hanging! In unhappy news, my mother and her husband have reached the decision to no longer continue his chemotherapy for his Liver/Pancreas Cancer. The past 3 weeks have been pretty horrible and pain medication is no longer working nor is that natural pain medication alternative that just got legalized in Florida. I expect certain unfortunate things to progress quickly at this time and when that happens, I will disappear for a while as I become the strong, sane figure in all that mess.

I'm glad my martini from Flying Fish spurred you to enjoy your own cocktails! I love Flying Fish and the update makes it feel more like a Signature Restaurant which makes me happy! I think no one is happier than me that my husband is adding meat back into his diet - makes cooking dinner so much easier as it just adds a lot more options in! I have like 75 ways I can make chicken (probably more) so no worries about boredom here! I've already made it twice in the days we've been back!

We don't make our way to the Swolphin Restaurants often either...BlueZoo is a no go for us after giving it multiple shots and being disappointed time and time again. Shula's we skip as we have one 6 miles from our house. As we stayed there this go around, it made Il Mulino a perfect choice for a dinner a night before a race since it was nice to just be able to go downstairs and get back to the room early. I try to stay close to our resort those nights if possible.

I need to catch up on everyone else's reports too...I've been good about posting in mine but bad about catching up on everyone else's. I need to do better!

Awesome job going as far as you did! Your race convo cracked me up bc it's the kind of thing I'd be chatting about with a run friend. I loved your pics! Country bears and Meeko! Never saw them?.....must be I was in the zone! I wish we would've bumped into each other somewhere!!! Hopefully next time!

I've discovered running friends just don't have boundaries about what they talk about. Running just well, certain things happen and you need to discuss it. My best friend is training for the Princess Half Marathon and I tried to start warning about certain things (how to make sure you are hydrated, why its important to know what fuels work for your body, you know, etc) She doesn't believe me yet but she hasn't run more than 5 miles yet. I'm waiting for the call when she hits 12 miles or so and has her first OMG experience.

You were probably in the zone with your pace group! I was way more observant on the course that day than I usually am. I mean, I had to entertain myself some how. (I also don't recommend anyone ever wearing nude color leggings when running a half....)

Aw Meeko's so cute! You get to meet a lot of awesome characters during the during the races.

We watch the Exorcist too. I don't expect it to last long either, but I'm enjoying it.

Meeko is adorable! Its so rare to see him out as I know I haven't in a while at least! I like how they bring out some rare characters for the races. Apparently with where I stopped, I missed out on Ducktales!

At least Fox has made the people that love their shows like Exorcist not expect it to last long...I learned to not get my hopes up for them anymore.

Wine & Dine Half Marathon - Food & Race

2:30AM is a very early wake up call even if you get that extra hour of sleep! Don’t let anyone tell you any differently. I got ready. My breakfast was very similar to the day before. Powdered donuts are very tasty! I also grabbed the Clif Protein Bar - Mint Chocolate from the Box the day before so I could eat that when we arrived at the corrals. I decided to go with that one over the nut butter one given to us with our shirts since I knew the Mint Chocolate one was the safe choice as we buy those at home - my husband eats them for lunch sometimes and I’ve been known to eat them for a meal when in a hurry.

At the corrals, we took a selfie b/c that is what you do when you get to the Pre-Race area if you forget to do it on the bus!

Race Selfie!

We also realized that the lines for the characters were way better than the day before! This could be because it was 3:15AM and not a lot of people had arrived yet. We got in line for Remy! I also got a decent photo of Lumiere when we got to the front of the Remy line!

We hung out for a while. At 4:15AM, he left me to head to his corral (B - b/c he’s fast) and I met with a group of friends I’ve met through the Disboards to get a group shot!

vIaMnDm.jpg

All the girls!

And then we all headed to our respective corrals. 3 of us were in the same corral so we headed to G together to chill towards the right side before it was on turn to start. For the initial corrals - they start off each of them pretty quickly! We were started before we knew it!

I started off with my easy-I-really-shouldn’t-be-doing-this Interval of 15/30 as we headed down out of the Wide World of Sports. The first mile went ok.

It was nice seeing the Country Bears out as I don’t recall having seen them before out on the course at least in the races I've done!

And I made it to Mile 1! Yay!

RT3KAmG.jpg

Mile 1

After Mile 1, I started getting a new pain. One I had never experienced before - a pain alongside the bottom right side of my arch of my right foot (the recently healed one) I was really happy to see the Medical Tent and decided to get some pain reliever and keep on going and hope it would go away. While I may not finish this race, I wanted to make it through Animal Kingdom at least and get some new photos! They mark your hand so people know if you had medicine or not later along the course...

Pain Medicine Time!

Not much else happened between Mile 1 and 2. I just kept to my right side of the road and kept moving along.

NsZqPuZ.jpg

Mile 2

After Mile 2, we got to see some Rave Dancers with whips and things. That didn’t excite me much as that was never really my scene.

0DU1yJ7.jpg

Dancers

I slowed way down as I approached Mile 3. I decided I would just walk from now on and enjoy the course. I would get however far I would get!

D010AD5.jpg

Mile 3

As I was walking towards Animal Kingdom in the parking lot, I apparently had a perfect ‘Dis_Yoda’ judgmental face moment as a runner pushed through myself and another runner on the far right side. Behind me, I hear a very familiar voice saying “There is that look I love” or something similar. I’m not sure exactly. I was happy to see it was @Tankgirl making those comments along with another person we know here from the Disboards who was also walking. @Tankgirl was actually trying to finish the race and the other one knew she wasn’t going to finish as she was already in pain. I told her my plan had now become - get through Animal Kingdom - visit Medical Tent. She liked that plan and hung around with me. After some amusing conversations I’m sure some other people hated (Underwear Selection or Non-Use while running, when your monthly cycle hits on a race weekend (here’s a hint - it sucks!), how during Light Side & Dark Side I text message @Tankgirl while I’m soaking in a bathtub full of Epsom Salts and that some people think that is odd) There were no children there around (you have to be at least 14 to run a half at Disney and a 14 year old is more than old enough for those conversations anyway) @Tankgirl left us and continued on her path to finishing the races! Go her!

I instead had conversations with the other friend and took photos like so...

While I had taken photos of characters, I hadn’t gotten in line for them as I didn’t feel the urge to. That opinion changed when I saw Meeko! His line was only about 6 people deep so we hopped in!

I didn’t take a picture with the topiaries as I remember when this was first used for the World Cup many years ago...

Now we were officially through all of Animal Kingdom and my body was telling me...YOU ARE STUPID! WHY DID YOU DO THIS CRAZY LADY?!!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?! I told my buddy with me this and she was feeling similar. My ‘good-recently healed’ right ankle felt like it hated me - my right knee wasn’t happy and my chronically ‘bad’ left ankle was slightly not happy. We knew the next medical tent had to be coming up as I had pulled up the course map on my phone and knew it was shortly after mile 6.

xT38U6o.jpg

Mile 6

I was very happy to see Mile 6. I was also happy to see that the 10K marker was at the edge of the turnaround point so it would be really easy for someone to pick out if someone was course-cutting by skipping this turnaround point on the course (about .6 miles of the course was an out and back) While we were at the end of the return part of the turn around towards the end of it, we saw the dreaded ‘balloon’ ladies (although they weren’t dreaded to me) and you could tell people were rushing by us to get way ahead of them. We also got to see what a hard sweep look likes as the people leaving the backroads of Animal Kingdom were getting hard swept into the buses at that time. We trudged ahead and made it to the medical tent and said - we couldn’t continue and needed ice! My right ankle was very very happy to get the ice on it when the medical person wrapped it up for me!

2eExXal.jpg

Ice Time!

I realized I didn’t stop my watch right away but here is what it was when I remembered to. If I thought my 10K time was my Worst Time Ever, pretty sure this has it beat!

Half of a Half Marathon Finish Time

So we waited until we were picked up to be taken to the end. Since the sweepers were closing off the course at the end of Animal Kingdom, they thought it was wiser just to make our Medical Tent wait until that bus could take us along for the ride outside of those at the tent that needed more serious medical attention (like the poor lady that was passing out for dehydration and another whose body was going into a shock like state from being overheated + not having enough fuel in your system) I was fine with waiting. My husband had finished while I was sitting here - he finished at 2:07:22 - so better than Princess but his 2nd worst half time so he wasn’t happy. (His best half time is 2:01:05)

Being on the sweeper bus was an interesting time. There was the group of us from the medical tent (no, crazy woman, even if I had skipped the 10K yesterday, there was probably no way I could have finished today since I literally hadn’t trained in like 5 weeks!) and there was the group that got swept before Mile 6. Some of those individuals were obviously very upset and crying. Others were morose. Me? Well, I was that annoying, cheerful person. My friend and I were talking and being well happy. No point in being down on knowing when to quit in order to not hurt yourselves more. I took pride when I did make a sad person laugh (at my own idiocy but whatever) but I still think some people on that bus wished I would have shut up. Oh well!

We were taken to the finish line area - but post finish line area. If you ever been in the rundisney post race chutes - you’ve seen tents labeled things like “Tigger” and were like what are those? Well - the “Tigger” tent is the tent they put those individuals that didn’t finish the race through. You are given your half medal (not your challenge medal) along with your race food box and drinks and sent along the way. If you need minor medical attention, it is also there for you. Now you know!

I walked to my bus and took it back to the Swan. Someone on the bus stopped me when they saw me bib and told me I forgot my challenge medal and I told them, nope, couldn’t get one of those as I didn’t finish and again I got a strange look in return.

I’m happy I listened to my body and quit when I needed to quit. If I had kept pushing it - I would have ended up more injured and possibly out for more RunDisney races!

I got back to the room the earliest ever for a half! 8:15AM! I took my shower (I really wanted a tub though!) and settled in to enjoy my food box. Cheese & Chips and Oreos for me! It was then nap time as well for a little bit. You can’t go wrong with those items after a half of a half!

I'm very happy the cheese dip has returned. I hope they have it for 2017 races!

You are very smart and brave for knowing when to quit. I wish I had done that in 2015.

All your first night drinks sounded super cool. I also don't like gin but now I'm intrigued by that Martini. However as a true whiskey lover the above sounds perfect!!

I'm impressed with how much you got done that first morning at Epcot. Tequila lunch sounds amazing, but I am a total

Uhm, is this your score??!! I can barely get 10,000, I don't think I even understand where my laser is pointing. LOL! What's the trick??!!

Dawa Bar rocks!! I love sitting there and people watching!! I can't wait to go to Nomad Lounge too their patio looks incredible!

Love the doggy pics! My littlest (a 40lb 5-month old Boxer) insists on trying to crawl on to my lap while I'm trying to drive. Not safe at all, but they are so cute, it's hard to resist.

I am a 1/2 marathon running instructor, and one of the first things I tell newbies to the group is to get prepared for crazy "personal" conversations on long runs! I have ended up knowing more stuff about my runners in 3 months than I did about friends of mine for years. LOL! Too true, it all comes out on long runs!

Sorry you couldn't finish the half, like you said, at least you did further aggravate an injury.

Great race recaps! Glad you were able to enjoy both races even while battling an injury! I was all about the orange cheese and chips combo as well!

Sorry to hear about your step-father. Hang in there.

I hope they have it too! I don't remember them having it at Disneyland though as I remember I got Goldfish instead (I could be wrong - that was like 10 months ago!) 2017 is going to be less RunDisney for us - just the challenges for both Star Wars along with the Challenge for Wine & Dine for the husband and just the 10K for me (no point in spending the extra money if I'm not going to be legacy for the challenge!)

Hopefully if you think you have to quit again in a future race - you'll listen to your body!

You cannot go wrong with a Maple Peach Bacon Manhattan - it was updated to a Maple Fig Bacon Manhattan in November when we returned which that one was also super yummy. Glad to meet another female whisky lover. We are few and far between it seems around here!

I'm impressed with how much you got done that first morning at Epcot. Tequila lunch sounds amazing, but I am a total

When we do the parks - we do the parks! Go, go, go! Although - we didn't do as much as I thought we might - we were even more go go go at Magic Kingdom the next day. It was such a different experience than the November trip where we ended up going on barely any rides but we weren't focusing on that this time around.

Uhm, is this your score??!! I can barely get 10,000, I don't think I even understand where my laser is pointing. LOL! What's the trick??!!

Yes! My trick is that I keep my button down the whole time and it just keeps cycling at a steady pace - it helps my aim!

People watching in disney is the best ever, especially with a drink in your hand!

They do love to try to get in our lap but we generally do try to avoid it. We do laugh when they are in the front passenger seat and set of what we call the 'fatty' alarm for them as some days they set off the seatbelt alarm and some days they don't. (They are 30/40 pounds so not exactly sure what the limit is for what sets it off as the 30 pound one doesn't most days but the 40 pound ones does usually)

So adorable!!! Is that a sparkle skirt??

It is! I have 8 of them now! I have 2 Group Customs that should be ready in the next month! I hope I get them before Star Wars!

What an amazing experience to "know" people at the race and get photos like that!

Sorry you couldn't finish the half, like you said, at least you did further aggravate an injury.

You do. My best friend is training for Princess Half as her first half marathon and I've been trying to prep her for some things and I know she isn't listening to me yet. She hasn't started long runs so she probably doesn't understand the OMGNEEDTOLIETNOW moment you sometimes get and she doesn't believe about trying out fueling options yet as they may make you react differently than what you think or not taste how you think. (I love Salted Caramel but that flavored Gu was the WORST)

Great race recaps! Glad you were able to enjoy both races even while battling an injury! I was all about the orange cheese and chips combo as well!

Thank you! I'm happy I did them! It was such a different type of race mentally that I'm glad I did it with zero expectations and just went along for the enjoyment. Was I slower than normal? Yes! But that is what happens when you don't train!

Sorry to hear about your step-father. Hang in there.

Thank you  I know its time - its more so just the emotional drain on helping my mother deal with that. My week has been rough between helping her emotionally along with work stuff - when I headed to yoga on Wednesday - I totally had a double Manhattan beforehand! Somehow I didn't hurt myself despite having fun before class doing cartwheels in the sunset and stuff.

Pre-Gaming Lunch Food & Wine Booths

Back in the room after the half marathon, fed from our little runDisney boxes, we relaxed and stretched for a bit. I believed I also took a short nap as I knew it would be a long day when all was said and done. At 10:15AM, we started (slowly) walking to EPCOT International Gateway because apparently we’re insane and my husband hadn’t had enough exercise this morning with running the half and I just went along with him. I may have walked the slowest I ever had though to the park though.

We decided we were going to pre-game before our lunch as well, the run part of our trip was over and now it was time to indulge in Food & Wine! Our lunch reservation was at 11:45AM so we were going to do a little damage...

Because of how slow we walked, by the time we got through the gates of EPCOT, some of the booths for Food and Wine had already opened even though it was about 15 minutes before 11AM. We decided to take advantage of this!

Our first stop was….

Ireland!!!!

Ireland hasn’t really changed their menu much in the past few years but that doesn’t stop us from going there again and again as we do love their options. I’m sad they don’t have butter with the bread anymore, I guess Kerrygold didn’t want to give it out for free this year! We loved all the cheese though. The chutney met the trash. You can’t go wrong with the warm chocolate pudding either. If it was socially acceptable to like a plastic plate I would but I didn’t. We both liked this beer as well.

Scotland

I got this beer in Scotland as I like Whiskey so I was hoping this stout might be up my alley. I was wrong. My husband also didn’t like it. 75% of it went in the trash!

Craft Beers

We decided to go get all the options of beer from Craft Beer for our lunch as that is how we do things. Flight #1 was the winner of the 2 flights as #2 was not really good to us but we aren’t IPA fans. My favorite of all of these was the 3 Daughters A Wake Coffee Blonde Ale. My husband liked the Two Henrys Blueberry Vanilla American Wheat Ale the best. We finished off flight number 1 and the the Pilsner of Flight #2.

I knew we were heading to lunch immediately after this...I still wanted food. I wanted to try these Piggy Wings! I was really glad I did too! They were super tender and the sauce was very flavorful!

Properly hydrated...we had a lunch reservation to get to as we had all of 5 minutes until our ADR time! Off we ran!

Loving all the drinking going on with you 2. Impressive after the race!!!! Those wings look great, though I've never heard of a pork wing. Do you know what cut it was?

Glad to hear you survived drunkin' yoga. I think at this point you can do whatever you need to get you through the day, cartwheels and all

I knew you would be proud of the drinking! Too bad your husband ended up not going through with the race or you and him could have joined my husband and I on our alcohol filled adventures! I think they just call them piggy wings to be cute - it really is just a pork rib that has been cut in a certain way.

I agree! Drunkin' yoga wasn't what I had originally planned for that day to bring me but some days you just gotta do the little stuff to enjoy. I wasn't planning on doing yoga on Monday but I will be this week since Tuesday after work I'm going up until who knows when based on the constant changes in everything. I hope I"m back home on Sunday but that too could change. Originally it was 2 months lefts, then 6 weeks and now 2 weeks. I have to get some stuff at work in a place where I can hand it off without having to worry about being bothered as I can't let my frustrations show to customers (I am the sole customer quality engineer for my side of the business)

I at least found a really cute dress today for the service when the time comes! (I'll stop being depressing now and go back to food!)

Le Cellier

Now that we were properly hydrated along with having a pre-appetizer snack or two, we headed towards our hearty lunch option. This would be my husband’s first official ‘post-vegetarian’ meal. I can’t remember if I posted it in a response to someone or in an actual post but earlier in the trip, my husband mentioned to me that he realized his vegetarianism wasn’t working for him. It was allowing himself to justify eating too much candy since he was often still hungry as the protein sources weren’t really filling him up. He had also realized it hadn’t helped his speed with running as he had significantly slowed down (significantly in his mind - in reality it was probably a 30 second per mile difference) and he couldn’t make the improvements he wanted. I wasn’t sure how exactly he was going to dive back in. I assumed it would mostly be kinda slow.

We arrived a couple minutes late for our ADR but that was no issue since they were still seating people from the opening rush. It wasn’t long before we were seated at a two top in one of the corners of the restaurant and we were greeted by one of the friendliest servers I’ve ever met! She seemed to really love her job and knew a lot about the history of the restaurant and how things had changed over the years.

Since I hadn’t had enough beer, I ordered more beer! A few years ago, Le Cellier hosted a “Culinary Adventure in Signature Dining” at lunch that my husband and I attended. I figured it would be wine originally but we were surprised to learn when we got there that it was beer! The wonderful outcome of that event was that we learned about a new beer to love - Unibroue that is brewed in Canada in a Belgian style. They had a flight with 3 of the various beers. I went with this as it was easier than selecting just one of the Unibroues I know I love.

vZQO8al.jpg

Unibroue Flight

When our server initially came to the table, I was decided - in my attempts to hand my husband the alcohol menu I was the klutz that I am and dropped it on him and made a huge noise. This is when I knew it would be a good time with her as she laughed and said she was happy it was me and not her as that would be something she would do! My husband just gave me a death glare for attracting attention to us. (Sometimes he wonders why he married me - this is one of those times) When she returned with my beer, he decided on the ice wine flight as apparently he wanted to drink sweet stuff with his meals. This doesn’t shock me as he literally is the candy monster. (He has found every place I’ve hidden sweets in the house - including a tampon box! What man looks in a tampon box for candy?!?!) I’ve given up in my attempts for candy hiding and instead just take candy directly to work if I want to not share.

I like ice wine - but I like it with dessert. He was really happy with these selections though throughout his meal.

fHGt0yW.jpg

Ice Wine Flight

For my husband’s first course - he went with their lovely cheddar cheese soup. This soup has loads of bacon throughout along with lots of cheese and beer. (Not sure how well it paired with ice wine though but that wasn’t my problem or selection) For easing back into eating meat - probably a very smart choice. I mean, who doesn’t love Bacon?

TpMYAGv.jpg

Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup - Moosehead Beer w/ Nueske’s Applewood-Smoked Bacon

My second course had a little bit of a mishap. When my husband course was originally served, I was given a plate that had blue cheese on it and something that looked like a salad with tomatoes too. Obviously not what I ordered as I hate blue cheese and I really don’t like to eat raw tomatoes. When I mentioned this to the server, she looked really embarrassed and ran away. When she came back, she apologized profusely (apparently someone was talking to her about said salad as she was ringing in my order) and said she put in a rush for my dish. I told her it was ok - we weren’t in a hurry as we really didn’t have much planned for the afternoon after this meal until it was time for the spa for me. I had bread to keep me happy as well. We get mistakes happen. When my dish was brought out - I was so happy with it! It was something a little out of the normal for me as I’m not someone that craves lobster or crab but something about the blue crab ancient grains salad sounded so appetizing to me. This dish was very light despite having a ton of elements to it! I even ate half of my lobster (the server was disappointed I didn’t finish my lobster but my husband chimed in that it is weird I even ate that much as usually I barely eat any!) I was super glad I went out of my norm and went with this as my starter!

OtUupto.jpg

Vanilla Poached Maine Lobster - Blue Crab-Ancient Grains Salad, Spiced Phyllo, Tiny Greens, Blood Orange Vinaigrette

My husband disappointed me some in his second course selection. He didn’t order a real entree! He instead went with their poutine. He has had it before and has been really happy with it. You all won’t be disappointed in me as I went for it - despite having a snack or two at the booths and an appetizer and it really only being lunch. I went with the Le Cellier Filet Mignon! It was supposed to be cooked to Medium Rare - but it did come out more on the medium side of that but the steak was tender enough and the truffle-butter sauce was tasty enough that I could easily hide away the fact it was slightly overdone for my taste. The risotto was super tasty and I love that the mushrooms are big enough to pick out. I totally finished off my risotto and steak! Can’t say I touched the vegetables though...

We skipped dessert as we were more than full! Upon receiving the bill, our server told us she had a surprise for us. Since she knew we had 2 early mornings in a row and we had mentioned we were doing EPCOT tomorrow (to which my husband said - yeah, my wife makes me run to Soarin first thing) she had a present for us. We got a complimentary fastpass good for Soarin for the two of us! We never expected that! We were very happy and we hope she didn’t feel like she had to do that because of the mishap of my dish (which got corrected timely)

We’ll be back to Le Cellier. We’re glad it is a bit easier to get into now that the Signature Status is there and the menu has been getting better.

After lunch, we headed back to the room. My husband walked. I took the boat as I’m smart. He was watching NFL football when I got back to the room where I just relaxed until it was time for the SPA!

I really want to try Le Cellier! Everything looked amazing! So so yummy! It's always a pleasure to have great service! Props to the FP!!

I'm sorry, I'm not sure where I missed reading that your stepdad is failing. I'm so sorry!! I remember you shared he was ill. Stay strong! Lots of prayers from your Dis friends!!

It is! I have 8 of them now! I have 2 Group Customs that should be ready in the next month! I hope I get them before Star Wars!

I think I will listen to my body in the future. That's the biggest thing I've learned from this whole thing.

I hope your friend starts listening to you soon! That could be very very bad.

TpMYAGv.jpg

Honestly, the last couple of times I ate at Le Cellier, I had soup and poutine! lol I love it! Also, you're kind of making me regret not making an ADR for this one.

knew you would be proud of the drinking! Too bad your husband ended up not going through with the race or you and him could have joined my husband and I on our alcohol filled adventures!
I think the four of us would be all sorts of trouble together ; ) No idea when he is gonna do another disney race. Likely 2018 at this point as after our February trip we're taking some Disney time off as we have a few other non-Disney trips next year.

I at least found a really cute dress today for the service when the time comes! (I'll stop being depressing now and go back to food!)
Hang in there!

It was a really good meal! Perfect option for lunch post race and it is awesome to have great service as well!

I haven't posted about my stepdad in the main posts in this thread (unlike my WISH journal) but rather in the comments for people that are aware. Its time - hospice in home care is involved until he reaches the coma position and then he will go into on site hospice care. I'm going up on Tuesday after work now to help my mother with all this - until Sunday unless status changes and I'll possibly be there longer. I'm preparing what I can for a long time away from work.

I think I will listen to my body in the future. That's the biggest thing I've learned from this whole thing.

Running is always a learning sport! There is always something to learn! I hope she listens to me soon too - I'll push more post holidays when I know she's getting into the long run trainings rather than the short ones.

If it wasn't a meal post running - I probably wouldn't have thought twice of him only having soup and poutine but the boy ran a 2:07 half marathon and had only a bag of chips and a protein mini bar to eat! I figured he would have eaten a lot more! I guess I made up for the two of us!

Oh! Where are you going?

You should all totally do the Star Wars Light Side Race in Disneyland - we're doing that one every year!

Our 'big' vacation next year is a Tauck Small Groups Italy Trip! We don't considered WDW a big trip thanks to DVC/driving/annual passes although sometimes I still spend more money than I think we will.

Hang in there!
Thanks! *hugs*

This seems to be a newer item on their menu and totally awesome! It really was such an elegant dish and I was so happy for it! Perfect start to the meal!

If you like truffle - you're going to love my side dish at Yachtsman :)

Speaking of truffle, wow! I had no idea they had truffle butter on their filets. And if we ever go good to know I can pull those yucky mushrooms out!

That butter is so tasty on that filet. Mushrooms are totally yucky but I'm grown up enough to pick them out when they are in something I want to eat.

Man, someone can mess up my order all day long if they make up for it with this

I know right! Totally unexpected and very appreciated! I think it was a combination of that and the fact that she felt bad I was going to drag him to park opening after 2 early mornings in a row! (I still dragged him to park opening btw)

Yachtsman

When we were back from the resort from lunch, my husband spent the afternoon relaxing in the room. He pretty much watched NFL and played video games. I had a better plan. I had never been the Mandara Spa at the Dolphin but I had been at the one at Portofino. That one had some awesome saunas and steam rooms and a hot tub and pool to enjoy before or after your treatment. Well, this one wasn’t that awesome sadly and my legs were sad for it. At least they got to relax in the steam room for a bit to heat them up to release but still not the same as a hot tub.

F8ecGYq.jpg

Mandara Spa

After my steam room time, I headed to the relaxation room where I laid down until it was time for my treatment.

d9eb4qh.jpg

Relaxation

Right on time, my attendant took me to the room to perform my facial. It was a really relaxing experience and one I would recommend to people on a race weekend. You don’t have the worries about blood clots like you get with massages post long distance races but you still get all the pampering and relaxation. I’m probably the only normal working 30 year old that has gotten like 7 facials this year though (even though one told me I don’t need them as my face is great - I plan on keeping it that way!)

After the treatment, I headed back to the room and got ready to dinner. We were meeting with the group of ladies I knew here from the Disboards to have dinner. My husband got to be the lone male with a group of 17 women. We were to meet at 5PM but like any dinner with 18 people, it is sometimes like herding cats and but it wasn't too long after 5PM that everyone arrived and we all were seated.

nEyHj3A.jpg

Someone’s Race Injury

Once everyone arrived, we were led to our two tables in the corner of the restaurant where we would be served for the evening. We all started with drinks. My husband had a diet coke. I went with a glass of Pinot Noir that I knew would work well for me throughout the evening. I tried to convince him to get a bottle of wine but he said if I wanted any hope of him going to the after party, that would be a no go! Some people went with some really fun cocktails!

uO326yb.jpg

@Tankgirl Very Bright Drink

My husband and I went with the same dish for our starter. We love French Onion Soup and this one did not disappoint! It was super cheesy and the broth was really rich.

XtTDq4F.jpg

French Onion Soup

Despite having already had Filet for lunch, there was no way I wasn’t going to get Filet at Yachtsman as well. I went with the smaller of the two options (6 oz over 10 oz) and was very happy with the steak that was brought out. It was cooked to a perfect Medium Rare (my husband even commented that it looked better cooked than my one earlier) and it was as tender as it should be!

I didn’t get to try a single bite of the mashed potatoes as my husband ate all of them...when you have a group of 18 people, you are bound to have someone’s meal screwed up. Well that someone was my husband’s. As he had ordered a salad for his entree, it seemed as if it was forgotten when everyone else’s meal was brought out (even those that also had ordered appetizers) Since we had ordered a side to split and I had mashed potatoes, he didn’t care as he knew he would be more than filled with this. Since the potatoes were cleared off the plate - I can tell they were good as he won’t have ate them all if they weren’t!

0ZebqwZ.jpg

6 Oz Black Angus Filet Mignon - Mashed Potatoes and Cabernet Wine Sauce

We splurged a bit on our side item. As it was White Alba Truffle Season - they had White Alba Risotto on the menu as a side for sharing. It cost as much as an entree but we knew it would be well worth it. It totally was! The truffles were freshly shaved and were so luscious. The risotto was perfectly cooked. We were both really happy with this (and I won out as my husband gave me more of the truffle shavings than him since he knows I appreciate them more)

Nm7iU7U.jpg

White Alba Risotto

So after my husband had already finished my potatoes and we were halfway through our risotto, the server came to check on the table and realized my husband never was brought his salad. My husband had stated that he didn’t need it anymore as he was filled from my side and the risotto but the server brought it anyway (although it was taken off our bill) Yachtsman always has a wonderful Caesar but any review of it this time would be tainted since he wasn’t hungry for it any longer.

One of the ladies at the other table was celebrating her birthday during this trip. The server brought out a special dessert for her and we all sang. I’m sure the entire restaurant could hear a group of 17 people + the waiters singing to her!

Someone’s Birthday!!

After the singing, we did get a group photo of all of us!

My husband and I had passed on desserts along with some of the others at our table. Those on the dining plan had desserts though. Everyone seemed very happy with the selections they got. Our server brought us out a treat to share among the table (2 of these per table) but my half of the table didn’t partake as they were waiting for their desserts. My husband was too full as well! I enjoyed the marshmallow and the macaron as there was no way I was going to let either one of those go to waste!

After Dinner Treats

We really enjoyed our meal here and enjoyed the company with us! My husband ended up feeling the lack of sleep from the day though at the dinner and decided to skip the after party for Wine & Dine despite my acquiring Frozen FP+ for the two of us at 8:30PM! Luckily, someone else was willing to join me on it. He went back to the room and most of us ladies went back over to EPCOT as the Wine & Dine Afterparty would be starting shortly (tickets got you in at 8PM although the party didn’t really start until 10PM) The dinner took a bit longer than what was normal for my husband and I but again, that was because it was a large party (2.5 hours rather than our normal 1 to 1.5 hours)

Another place to add to my list! I swear, every time I read a review it reminds me that I have so many places to try! Yachtsman looks amazing!....everything....I'll take it all! Maybe I'll add it to my February trip?! The Dis meet dinner is a great idea! How fun!!

As for your stepdad, hang in there. Your mom is lucky to have you for support. I've been there unfortunately. Many thoughts and prayers.

Oh! Where are you going?
Still refining plans, but in addition to Disney in February we are doing Key West, Napa/Sonoma, and at least a week at the beach this summer

Our 'big' vacation next year is a Tauck Small Groups Italy Trip! We don't considered WDW a big trip thanks to DVC/driving/annual passes although sometimes I still spend more money than I think we will.
Wow!!!! That sounds amazing. Italy is on my bucket list, but dang Disney keeps taking my money so we stay stateside

After the treatment, I headed back to the room and got ready to dinner. We were meeting with the group of ladies I knew here from the Disboards to have dinner. My husband got to be the lone male with a group of 17 women.

WOW. WOW. And um yeah WOW. Pretty much all I got for that. Their risotto looks so fine it looks like mashed potatoes instead of risotto. Wish they had this on our last trip as there is no chance I could have resisted. Truffles are one of my all time favorite foods/flavors.

So true! It doesn't matter how long you've been running, there is always something to learn.

Good point! Post-half, he definitely should have eaten more than that! I know some people don't like to eat afterward. I don't really, but I have to make myself. It's better in the long run.

Still refining plans, but in addition to Disney in February we are doing Key West, Napa/Sonoma, and at least a week at the beach this summer

Kari, we lived in Napa for several years and my DH worked at a couple of different wineries. Let me know if you need any suggestions! :D

That risotto looks amazing, as does the Caesar! I think I would be happy with those two dishes for a meal, and I love steak!
