I am looking to go to HHI next March, the Friday before Easter through the next week (3/21-3/29). I know that some of you have been there in March as I have seen the terrible descriptions of the lousy time you had! :rotfl2:

I'm hoping you will be so kind as to give my some more bad news, specifically about the yucky weather temps, no activities for the kids, very expensive cash rates, and the remote chance that I'll be able to book a couple of small 2 BR units for that time of year at 7 months out. Also, will you please tell me that my inlaws will be as miserable at HHI as they would be at WDW? :rolleyes1

If you think that March is worse than Thanksgiving, I'd like to know that too!

Thanks,
MathEd101

We were at HHI the week before Easter -- beautiful weather and the resort was full, but didn't feel like it. The poor folks who were there after Easter got COLD weather .

I've been to HHI twice in April (first part and last part) and both times the weather was great. We swam, participated in activities, went to Savanna and Charleston, and enjoyed the island.

Not sure what March has to offer weather wise, that would be my only concern.

Good Luck!

Yes, we've been both March and at Thanksgiving. We went last Thanksgiving and had such a terrible time that we just HAVE to go back again this year to see if it's any better.:rotfl2: Actually, the weather WAS pretty bad.
I was thinking about the differences between March and Thanksgiving just today. The resort is booked solid at Thanksgiving. One time I had to wait for anything to exercise on in the exercise room. And one night I couldn't find a place to sit in Big Murgie's Den-and there was no activity going on. And forget using the pool table! So many people are using and waiting to use it. We've never been to HHI in the summer, so maybe this is all pretty normal. However, we have been during spring break and the resort seems virtually empty by comparison. Hmmm-maybe we should go both March AND Thanksgiving next year to see which is "less bad":rotfl2: Purely research, of course.

Thanks for your replies! Charleston would be on our list of must sees while we were in HH. Looks like the weather can be great or not-so-great either time, but Thanksgiving sounds alot more crowded.

Can anyone give me more information on cash reservations? Some of the rates I've seen in posts were really good - how do you find out about the cash rates?

How about specific activities for the kids - what is there to do besides the obvious? Any favorites?

Thanks so much for any information you can share! :thumbsup2

Yes, sad to say that we went in March last year and booked a studio on a cash ressie. Can you believe that the CM at check-in had the nerve to insist that we stay in that humungous 2 bdrm suite 15feet from the water!!!!!!! We were afraid the dolphins were going to jump up onto our verandahs in the morning! The echos of our voices haunted us the entire week. We may never get over it. Hopefully, when we go back this summer they will see fit to treat us fairly :rolleyes1

I was one of the people who had a *horrible* experience which included unfairly being upgraded from a studio to a 2 BR :rotfl2:

March weather is iffy but less iffy then November. Whe we were there it was high 70s to 80 and gorgeous. We hated it so much we bought points and are planning to go back the week you are discussing.

It is such a shame that it sucks so bad...we ran out of time to do all that we wanted - bike riding, dolphin viewing, kayaking, miniature gold, the beach, the pool - such a BORING place!

Are the upgrades only for cash ressies?

And I'm sorry that you all had such a horrible time checking in! ;)

Our schools are thinking of cutting out spring break next year so can anyone tell me if the first week in June is difficult to get at 7 months out?

Thanks,

Well, if you ask my dd, she will tell you that March is a horrible time to go to HH. About two hours after getting off the plane, my perfectly healthy child starting getting sick. She did not stop for 10 days! We took her to the urgent care clinic twice and at one point they couldn't wake her up and she was taken by ambulance to the hospital. This was probably five years ago but none of us have forgotten the trip from hell, especially since it was our first visit to HH. My dd did not ever want to go back. We had to force her and now it is her favorite place. However, on our first day there we do ask her multiple times if she is going to puke. ;)

This thread is way too funny. We're just back from HH this past week. I have a long post in DVC Misc if you want specifics about restaurants, golf, etc. It was our first trip there and we thought it was great.

The weather was a bit dicey - but when we had good weather it was great - warm, sunny, great beach and pool days. The good thing about HH is that if someone does decide to get sick.....there are clinics and a hospital not too far away. It's not as isolated as other resort islands we've been to.

We decided just after the 7mo window to make ressies so I didn't get everything I wanted the first time around. But we got everthing we wanted in the end off the waitlist over the course of the last 6 months. You just have to be patient. The last night of the studio for our friend actually thru the week before the trip. But I had a cash reservation for a studio for $157 that I held until that time.

Thanks for the recent replies!

It is very good to know that there are urgent care clinics close by. I will definitlely be looking for specific details over in the DVC-Misc. I just talked to my MIL and she is really, really excited about going to HH!:goodvibes

The only catch now is that the best time for all of us would be in the first week of August of 2008!!

So, anyone want to dash my hopes of going in August by telling me how impossible it will be to get a ressie for 2- 2BDRs at 7 months out????
