"I Wanna See My Castle!" October 2013 TR *COMPLETE* **NEW TR LINK!!** 7/3

Your FP+ reservations look great, though I'll be pulling for the Mine Train to be open by then!!!

Disney Junior looks adorable. I haven't been in years because we haven't had little kids with us in a long time, but it looks super cute!

SO glad DS liked the Muppets! That's one of my absolute favorite things to do at DHS.

Isn't Celebration gorgeous? My old neighbors actually lived there for five years and we got to go visit. I loved it.

That Cinderella meet! I am melting! I am like you, I definitely prefer the newer princesses, but my party meets with Cinderella and Snow were so good that they're growing on me.

I did a double take at your ticker, and it looks like we are going to be in Italy at the same time?!? Are you doing the ABD trip or going on your own? We are also adding on a day at DLP at the end of our trip too! We will be in DLP on 9/25!

We are doing our own tour. I don’t like being told when to leave. :rotfl2:
I get to DLP on 9/29 or 9/30.

Yes it is definitely going on my must do's at DHS, which is good bc i never know what to do there besides disney jr live on stage LOL!

Mine Train is 38" it looks like! You got me excited LOL!! But while I suppose it is possible she will be 38" (she measures 35.5" right now) i think probably not. Who knows though, that's still almost 5 months away!

I bet he will be 40" if he is just a hair below!! Fingers crossed for that, too! I can't wait for Aria's first ride on Splash! Are you going to do the MM+ to get ride photos and such? I think I will have to once Aria can ride everything!

Our DHS horizons have opened up a bit now that Paxton can tolerate sitting through 20+ minute shows. And it's rife with character meets, which he loves!

Oooh, maybe I did read 38" for 7DMT, now that you say that... I just knew he would be able to ride that one, no matter what. He seems to be about 40" in his well-worn tennis shoes, and I am saving some brand new ones for shortly before the trip, so hopefully without the tread worn off, he will hit 40"! :rotfl:

I think if this were a long trip where he could ride stuff with the 40" height restriction, we'd definitely do Memory Maker. But since we are only there for 2 days, it's a bit too pricey!

OH I keep forgetting to ask (or forgetting I've already asked this and you answered, not sure?!?!) LOL but I *think* you said you made the autograph book via Shutterfly? If so, would it be crazy to ask you for the project? I'd LOVE for Aria to finally do the autograph thing in August, i think she will finally be at a good age, and I want one that I can also put the photographs next to it bc i think she'd get a kick out of it. But i haven't spent the time on the boards trying to find pages and such (but will if I need to of course). Anyway, thanks! :goodvibes

I did his first book on Arts Cow and his second one on Shutterfly! Is there a way to share the album of photos I used?? I definitely wouldn't mind sharing!

Your FP+ reservations look great, though I'll be pulling for the Mine Train to be open by then!!!

Thanks! I tweaked them a little bit from what I posted, but I didn't change the attractions at all that we chose already. I am not even trying for FP+ on the Mine Train if it does become available, I think we are just going to take our chances with riding at rope drop.

The Disney Jr. show is pretty cute, since I do a lot of watching those shows with him. And it's cuter now that they changed out Little Einsteins and Handy Manny for Sofia & Doc McStuffins!

I loved Celebration! It's such a cute and well kept little town! And so close to Disney, of course that doesn't hurt. ;)

I never liked the princesses before, but watching them with Paxton over the last 2 trips has definitely changed my mind!

We are doing our own tour. I don’t like being told when to leave. :rotfl2:
I get to DLP on 9/29 or 9/30.

That's fair enough! :rotfl: Having never even been out of the country, I was way too overwhelmed with planning a trip to Italy on my own. The podcast episodes about the Viva Italia trip definitely drew me in to doing the trip that way, so I don't mind letting ABD take the wheel!

Too bad we will miss you at DLP, but I hope you have a great time!

Just a quick life update, since I mentioned it here on the TR...I got the job I interviewed for a couple of weeks ago! I still have to be kind of quiet about it at work and on Facebook because the other applicants haven't been told yet that they didn't get the position. But thanks to everyone for the well wishes as I was going through the interview process, both here & on FB! I couldn't be more excited! Instead of working 12 hour shifts, I'll be working at an outpatient infusion center for the pediatric hematology/oncology patients, so it will be Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, no weekends and no holidays! So much better for our family!

Day 6: Sunday October 27th

After a fairly late night at MK the night before, it was time for a little "sleep-in" day! I put that in quotes, because we were still up at 8 am, thanks to DS. That's most definitely "sleeping in" for our family though! My dad had made pancakes and sausage at home and brought it down with them, so we had some in our fridge and warmed that up for breakfast. Then we changed into our bathing suits, I threw in a load of laundry, and then we headed down to the pool!

Now any of you who have been following my TRs over the past few years know that every year, I try to fit in pool time and it NEVER happens! I'm happy to say that this year, it finally did. It helped that we didn't have any breakfast plans, and we didn't have a park ticket for the day, so there wasn't much to tempt us away from the pool. Haha!

Since we were in the main building, we opted to go right down there to the large main pool. It was empty when we got down there, and the water was definitely a little chilly that early in the morning.

Ready to go in!

The pool is zero entry, so we stayed on the shallow end. As soon as we went to go in, I spotted the biggest bug I have ever seen in my life just chilling in the water. Of course, I had to take a picture! It looked like it might be dead, but DH kicked some water towards it, and it took off swimming!!

06-002 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

Like I said, the water was pretty cold, but of course that didn't bother DS. So DH and I took turns sitting in the nearby hot tub warming up.

06-004 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

Eventually, it got to the point where DS was bored of just wading in the shallow water, but it was too cold for DH or I to want to take him in deeper water. So we headed over to the nearby kids splash pad instead to let DS have some fun in the kiddie pool and the sprinklers.

We stayed down at the splash pad until about 11 am. I had to run up to move the clothes from the washer to the dryer, but otherwise we just enjoyed sitting out in the sun and watching DS play in the water! I will say, please, for the love of Pete, people, swim diapers exist for a reason! There was a set of grandparents down there with a toddler girl in regular clothes and a regular diaper that was so swollen by the time they left, I felt uncomfortable for her! Not to mention how diapers fall apart when they are soaked like that... Gross!

When we got back up to the room, we took quick baths to get the chlorine off and threw the leftover pizza my parents had left from their trip to Pop Century Friday night into the oven to have for lunch. After lunch, DS had a little time to play in the room before going down for a nap at 1. DH and I had been planning to watch some of the Saints game that afternoon, but once we saw it wasn't airing in Orlando, we took a nap ourselves.

After a nice little cat nap, I got up and started transforming into Tinkerbell for our very first Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party!! First up was the bun, which thanks to advice from AbbyBeth here on the DIS, I had gotten a bun maker which made it so much easier to do!

Transformation almost complete, minus the wings!

Okay, story time! Mostly for those of you who didn't follow my PTR and might not know where DH's costume came from. So our theme for our costumes came about when I caught a sale on a costume website and found a Tinkerbell costume $10. Then I found a cute Peter Pan costume for DS that wasn't too expensive. So we were all squared away, and then there was DH. He really wanted to be Captain Hook, but it was just so expensive, whether we were to get a complete costume or buy it in pieces. We had to start looking into other Peter Pan characters for him instead. We thought Smee might be easy, but the blue and white striped shirt seemed impossible to get our hands on. Then we thought maybe John, and that it might be easy enough to get a top hat and cane for pretty cheap at Goodwill. Then, I jokingly suggested being Michael. I posted it in my PTR, and so many people commented what a great costume that would be! Eventually, I convinced DH to just bite the bullet and do it! He found a super cheap pink onesie costume on eBay, and we already had a teddy bear from DS's stuffed animal collection. Just like that, DH was Michael!

We took this photo and I posted it on Instagram before we got DS up from his nap.

06-011-2 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

I had kind of planned on leaving DS to nap until he woke up on his own, which just happened to be 3:30. And he woke up in a TERRIBLE mood, so I was not having high hopes for this party! I could just see meltdown city in our future!! But, SPOILER ALERT, he shaped up quickly and we had a GREAT night! He was excited to put on his costume and transform into his recent hero, Peter Pan!

Teddy was ready to go too!

We got in the car around 4 and drove to the TTC. So excited to see these pumpkins knowing we were going to our first party!!

06-015 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

As we walked up to the TTC towards the monorail, I was SO EXCITED to note the absence of signs proclaiming the party to be sold out!! I had been fully expecting a sold out night with only a few days to go to Halloween! I was very hopeful this would work in our favor, because I had a lot of party specific things I wanted to accomplish that night.

We took the monorail over and stepped up to the gates, and I immediately realized I had made an unfortunate shoe choice. I had a pair of silver flats, and even with moleskin in what I thought would be the right spots, I knew I wouldn't make it long in those shoes.

06-016 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

After making it through the turnstiles, I reached for my backup flip flops I had thought to bring with me...and promptly realized I had left them in the car! :headache: Not good, not good.

06-017 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

Don't the Halloween decorations just seem more amped up when you're going in for a party?! Maybe it's all the people walking around in costume that adds to it.

We stopped first to have our photo taken between the pumpkins at the end of Main Street, but the CM informed us they had just closed the line and we would have to come back later. Bummer! We stopped there to consult our party map for I don't even remember what, when the same CM called us over and said the line was moving faster than he'd thought, so he let us jump in for a photo! He also asked DH if he had a cannonball in his teddy bear. :rotfl: I had to explain the joke to DH because it had been awhile since he'd seen Peter Pan!

Photopass version

It was finally happening! We were inside MK for our first MNSSHP and we still had a little over 2 hours until official party time. What to do first?!

UP NEXT: More MNSSHP

I was only supposed to read "one more" TR when I saw your update come up, so I couldn't resist.

Congrats on your new job. Working Mon-Fri definitely has its benefits. the downside is you never really have a day off during the week to get things done. I miss that A LOT and have been missing it for years.

Tough job - pediatric oncology. My hats off to you!

You costumes are adorable. I have to come and read your whole update, but you guys look super cute!

Oh heck - I might as well read the whole thing.

What a nasty looking bug. Yuck!

That pool is gorgeous. What a nice relaxing morning.

I forgot that you got that costume for $10. What a bargain. Once again - Paxton looks so grown up. We are definitely doing the party this October. Guess I better start looking for a costume now.

I love your costumes! Your husband's seems so comfy too! I might just want to wear that on a normal non-MNSSHP day!

Love your mnsshp costumes. And congrats on your job! those hours are perfect. I was thinking of working for a homecare just to get better hours like that but I have heard horror stories about going to peoples homes !!!:thumbsup2

YAYYYY for the new job! Congratulations!

I think I mentioned this in your PTR, but I have that same Tinkerbell costume :goodvibes and I LOVE the Michael costume!

Congrats on the new job! It sounds like it will be perfect! Can't beat having weekends and holidays off!

I love love love your Halloween costumes. DH is such a sport going as Michael but its perfect!

DS looks so cute as Peter Pan!

Can't wait to hear all about the party! I haven't been to a Halloween party yet so I'm still living vicariously through everyone else. :rotfl:

Yay congrats on getting the job! The hours sound great :thumbsup2

That's good that you got some pool time in. A good chance to relax a little instead of running around the parks!

Absolutely love all your costumes!! Can't wait to hear all about MNSSHP :goodvibes

What a nice way to spend the day before MNSSHP!! The pool looks great, and splash pad area looks awesome. Glad that Paxton quickly changed moods once he got to become Peter Pan!! ALl your costumes are so cute, but I am totally surprised your DH went as Michael, LOL! Impressed, really! Mine would NOT even consider it. Cute that the CM knew to ask about the cannonball, too.

Can't wait to read all about the party, we did one with Aria when we went in 2012 but I think it'll be a while before we go back. Just was tough when she is used to going to bed so early.

Congrats on the new job!! That is fantastic news!

Edited: I have no idea how to share a shutterfly book! LOL i will look into it! :)

Congratulations on the new job! My DH works crazy shifts with varying days off (now it's Mon. and Tues.) so I can appreciate what a Mon-Fri schedule would be like. Not to mention you'll have time to be home with Paxton on the weekends and holidays off. :thumbsup2

I think it's great that your DH was willing to wear the Michael costume. I bet you all received a lot of compliments on your costume choices that night. I know if I had seen you 3 walking around I would've stopped and said that I loved them! :goodvibes

It sounds like you all had a really nice morning/afternoon. Some good relaxtion time before hitting up the Halloween Party. I can tell from those pictures, though, that the water was cold. Got to love how kids could care less if it's chilly, they just want to have fun! :lmao:

Oh my goodness CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! What wonderful news AND what an amazing difference in working hours.

I think it's a great idea to just chill and relax the day of a MK party. Way better than tiring yourselves out before it even starts.

OMG your costumes are FANTASTIC!!!! And I gotta say it... BIG UPS TO DH for wearing that!! Seriously, that's awesome.

Of course, I always do arrive way early for the party so I always miss the awesome decorations like the pumpkins at the parking entrance.

Wait, they actually close the line for the pumpkin/castle photo??? I had no idea. :confused3

WOOHOO!! :cool1: Congratulations! I know you're so glad to get off the 12 hour shifts.

GREAT MNSSHP costumes to go with your fantastic TR. DW and I had costumes as well but it was soooooo hot the night we were there.

OMG, did I know that you had a Cricut? Did I just forget? I love the Lightning ladder seat! This might sound silly, but how do the kids get up there? I loved your recap of your mini vacation. It's a good thing you had such great weather to start with and all the ease of enjoying a close hotel. I definitely want to go to New Orleans one day for the food.

Yay for DS playing Buzz for the first time! The funny thing is that he scored higher than my younger brother did when he was older!

I completely understand the "DH wanted to go set up for some nighttime shots" thing now that I got Howard a tripod for Christmas, and he wants to do the same thing. I just wandered in shops and traded pins, but I think it'll be nice to hop on some rides with my kiddos while dad goes and has his fun!

WOOHOO for the new job! I'm so happy you got some better hours!

Congratulations on the new position. That will be very nice to have your weekends and holidays for family time! :thumbsup2

I'm glad that you finally had a chance to get your pool time in without something causing a change in plans! :thumbsup2

I just want to say that your costumes are great!!! All 3 of them!!! And I won't even make fun of Dustin, because he was such a great sport about it... and that's just what dads do. :thumbsup2 :lmao:

I was only supposed to read "one more" TR when I saw your update come up, so I couldn't resist.

Congrats on your new job. Working Mon-Fri definitely has its benefits. the downside is you never really have a day off during the week to get things done. I miss that A LOT and have been missing it for years.

Tough job - pediatric oncology. My hats off to you!

You costumes are adorable. I have to come and read your whole update, but you guys look super cute!

Thanks! I really had to give it a lot of thought, because it is really so nice having the days off during the week to get shopping/housework/DISing (:rotfl:) done. But I think the trade off of having weekends home with my family and not working holidays is going to be worth it. As it is, I work every other weekend, so it's not a lot of time home with DH & Paxton!

Aww, I appreciate that. The oncology part kind of fell into my lap, and I really fell in love with it! Wasn't expecting that at all when I went into nursing, but it's been really wonderful so far, so I'm really looking forward to being able to focus on that aspect of peds.

The pool was really amazing! Would have been slightly better had it been warmer, but I was still really happy to finally get to spend some time down there.

Can't beat a costume for $10!! You can get great deals on costumes early in the year so it's definitely worth it to start looking if you can commit to something early on. I think it was buycostumes.com where I got mine, so check them out for sales!

I love your costumes! Your husband's seems so comfy too! I might just want to wear that on a normal non-MNSSHP day!

Thanks!! :lmao: While it was comfortable in a way, I know he was pretty hot in the early evening before the sun went down. It was kind of thin, so he had to wear clothes underneath it too, and I think the layering plus the material of the pajamas was pretty warm! It got better once nighttime came though.

Love your mnsshp costumes. And congrats on your job! those hours are perfect. I was thinking of working for a homecare just to get better hours like that but I have heard horror stories about going to peoples homes !!!:thumbsup2

Thanks & thanks!! I'm REALLY excited about the new job, I just can't wait to start now! The clinic won't be open for a couple more months, but at least I have that light at the end of the tunnel. I'm totally with you on that, home health is just NOT for me. I wouldn't be comfortable at all going to people's homes!!!

YAYYYY for the new job! Congratulations!

I think I mentioned this in your PTR, but I have that same Tinkerbell costume :goodvibes and I LOVE the Michael costume!

Thank you so much, Courtney!

It wasn't a bad costume at all, especially considering how cheap it was. The only thing I had a problem with was the wings wanting to fall down, but nothing a couple of safety pins couldn't fix.

The Michael costume was definitely the hit of the night! :thumbsup2

:rotfl:

Thanks! I have worked every other weekend for the past 6 years and of course lots of holidays, so I'm definitely ready for a change.

He was definitely a good sport! He got a lot of great reactions from CMs and guests alike, so I think that made him ease up too once we were there. DS loved dressing up as Peter Pan too! One of his favorite characters, for sure.

If you ever get the opportunity to go to a Halloween party, DO IT! I was blown away with how much I loved it!!

Yay congrats on getting the job! The hours sound great

That's good that you got some pool time in. A good chance to relax a little instead of running around the parks!

Absolutely love all your costumes!! Can't wait to hear all about MNSSHP :goodvibes

Thank you! I definitely think it will be a good change for our family. :goodvibes

It was SO nice to relax! We definitely don't do that enough on our Disney vacations. And the Bonnet Creek pools are SO nice. It was great to finally get to enjoy them a bit!

Thanks!! I can't wait to update on the rest of the party. It was fantastic!

Edited: I have no idea how to share a shutterfly book! LOL i will look into it! :)

It was an awesome way to spend the morning and get in some nice relaxation time. :thumbsup2 I was so relieved that DS's mood changed quickly. It wouldn't have been such a great night otherwise, that's for sure!

:rotfl: I was honestly REALLY surprised too that DH agreed to go as Michael. But he definitely got some great reactions throughout the night, and he was a great sport about it. :thumbsup2

Thank you!

Oh, that's cool. Haha I didn't know if you knew of a way already. I'll figure out a way to get everything to you. Inbox me your email address either here or on facebook. I'm sure I can do some kind of zip file or something.

Congratulations on the new job! My DH works crazy shifts with varying days off (now it's Mon. and Tues.) so I can appreciate what a Mon-Fri schedule would be like. Not to mention you'll have time to be home with Paxton on the weekends and holidays off. :thumbsup2

I'm so relieved! Our lives got pretty normal once DH stopped working offshore, but it will definitely be nice having us all home in the evenings, on the weekends, and no more working holidays!

We did get a lot of positive reactions! People's faces were so funny when they looked at DH and realized who he was supposed to be. :rotfl:

Kids are so indestructible. DS wants to be outside playing, whether it's 100 degrees and 90% humidity or 30 degrees and windy. A little cold water certainly didn't bother him!!

Oh my goodness CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! What wonderful news AND what an amazing difference in working hours.

I think it's a great idea to just chill and relax the day of a MK party. Way better than tiring yourselves out before it even starts.

Thanks! It will be a couple more months before I start, but at least I know it's there waiting for me. :thumbsup2

We wanted to stay as close to the end of the party as possible, so it was definitely the smartest choice to relax beforehand. Of course, it's always hard to resist the pull of the parks, but it was really nice.

:rotfl: Well, thanks to people like you, Dave, and Andy giving him the encouragement, that was the push he needed to go for the costume!

I don't know why they were closing that line, now that you say that? :confused3

WOOHOO!! :cool1: Congratulations! I know you're so glad to get off the 12 hour shifts.

GREAT MNSSHP costumes to go with your fantastic TR. DW and I had costumes as well but it was soooooo hot the night we were there.

Definitely! I'm so looking forward to having a more normal schedule.

Thanks!! It was hot at the beginning of the party, but once the sun went down, it was nice and cool. I can imagine MNSSHP nights in September are pretty uncomfortable in costume!

WOOHOO for the new job! I'm so happy you got some better hours!

Hmmm, I don't know?!? :confused3 I got it for scrapbooking, but it use it for SO many other things now! Kids birthday cards, decorations for DS's birthday party. I LOVE it!

Not silly at all! The bar on the front comes off. One of us would climb up the ladder with DS and slide him into the seat, then put the bar back. Or sometimes he could squeeze in without taking the bar off. Usually one of us carried him up and the other stood in front to help get his legs through. New Orleans food & culture is simply amazing. You won't regret it! I hope you're able to get there one day. :goodvibes

Oh man, our guys & their cameras, right? :rotfl: It's definitely not bad at all now that we have DS to keep me company and go do something while DH sets up for his perfect shot. :thumbsup2

Thanks, Rachel!

Thanks!! I couldn't be happier! The new schedule is going to be SO much better for us.

:rotfl: You've been with me since the beginning, Andy, I knew you would appreciate how excited I was for pool time!

Thanks so much!! DH was definitely a great sport, and got many many comments and compliments. It was definitely the best choice of costume! And DS was so excited. He still talks about it! :rotfl:

First off, a big congratulations on your new position!! :cool1: Outpatient hours, really can't beat those!

I'm proud that I can say that I was able to see the three of you in costume in person and they were truly great! I have to say though that I really didn't quite appreciate the pink in the pajamas when I saw you all because it was already dark by that time. :rotfl: Or maybe I was just too focused on trying to secure the Hallowishes spot. ;)
