I totally messed up my laptop for the sake of a swap!

Ok so I really wanted to make a paperpiecing of the Liberty Bell for the MK swap.* So after much research I found out that if I could find a JPEG of the Liberty Bell, I could download a free program called Inkshare and convert it to an SVG file which can be read by Sure Cuts A Lot and then cut it on my Cricut.*
Well, after spending 4 hours downloading Inkshare (first I downloaded for the wrong operating system:rolleyes:) I couldn't get the program to run because I needed some utility called X11 (and I couldn't figure out how to get it). Today I went to the Apple store (I have a Macbook) to ask them about that and three salespersons later they told me it was something that is optionally installed when you do the initial installation of your operating system. So I found my installation disks and tried to just install the X11 utility.

Bottom line is I got X11 and was able to make my paperpiecing, but I lost a bunch of files needed to make some important applications run (like photoshop).:headache:

Now I could have just printed the JPEG on the computer and cut it all out, but where's the fun in that:rolleyes:

I'll be spending tomorrow trying to rebuild my computer!:surfweb:

Here's the finished product:

looks awesome!!! Saying a prayer for the files lost in cyber space......

But, Bugs love Apples!!! (my Cricut boards motto) :thumbsup2

Hoping you have a speedy rebuild day today.

That Liberty bell looks great.

That looks amazing!! I think you are going to have to teach a class on the way to use Sure Cuts a Lot. You are doing some pretty cool things, and I can't even get started...my learning curve looks more like a bowl than a bell, kwim?

That Liberty bell is awesome.

What we won't do for our passions? Hope your computer problems are easily solved. My DH would have my fingers served on a silver platter if I messed around with operating sytems. :rotfl2: But then I have messed up other things by downloading from the internet and letting bugs/viruses in. So I don't do that anymore either.

I don't think I will be getting the Sure Cuts a Lot - I am the most computer unsavvy person I know! I can only imagine what I would do to my computer in an attempt to learn it. :scared: I will just stand back and droolingly (is that a word?) admire what the rest of you can do! :worship:

Such a nightmare!!! I currupted my iphoto application so I basically erased al photographic evidence of my ds's life:sad:

The computer is now at the Mac store where they tried some easy fixes (to no avail).

I can't believe I did this and I only have the first year backed up (he will be 2 next month!)

I am soo sorry. That just shucks!

Did you have them printed from any on-line services that might still have some of them? Or did you load them to any CD's to take to be printed?

I really hope they can find some of them for you.

Good luck getting it all fixed!

I don't do mac (sorry girls - I'm a pc girl) but are your files necessarily corrupted if the iphoto app is corrupted? Maybe they can be pulled off anyway? I'm thinking like a pc though but sending good thoughts to you!
