I Told You Driving Was Bad For Your Health! *2/2* NEW TRIP REPORT LINK P102

I have to admit, that's exactly how I felt the first time I road LM. I wanted more, lots more, as long as HM :rotfl: the second time I was able to enjoy the details much better, but I still wish it were longer.

My first impression was that Nemo should have been a lot more like LM. Nemo could have been so much more. I liked the ride for what it is. It's an update version of the old classics with beautiful scenery. I supposed I should ride it one time and not take a ton of pictures. That would make sense. ;)

Not lost, just meandering through an empty park. ;)

Turned around and meandering with no sense of direction WHATSOEVER! :rotfl2:

Splash seems to get stuck a lot....

I know and one of these days I am going to get unloaded from that ride. That is my fear. Not so much getting out and going back stage, but waiting an hour to do it. :rotfl2: That's why I always hit the bathroom BEFORE I get on. Just in case. :rolleyes1

In CT grocery stores only sell beer and I don't think that convenience stores like 7-11 sell beer or liquor at all. We only just within the last year got rid of the no alcohol sales on Sunday law. I wish it was available in the grocery store... so much more convenient.

Well, I guess its nice to be able to buy beer in a grocery store. But no wine? Really? Hmmmm - that doesn't make sense.

Delaware got rid of the no Sunday law a long time ago when they finally caught on that EVERYONE was going to Maryland to buy booze on Sundays.

And yes, the packie is the package store. :) And MUST be said with a think Boston accent.

:rotfl: I can totally hear that every time I read the word. :rotfl:

On the Disney World front, between all the temporary construction walls and New Fantasyland I found myself getting quite turned around in July. And the heat. :faint: Was actually so hot and crowded that I gave up and didn't even try the New Fantasyland attractions so am looking forward to that in October. Will keep Denny's review of LM in mind. ;)

You ventured there in July? Wow! That's pretty off season for you, isn't it? October is SO much better than summer. I will admit, June wasn't as horrible as it could have been, but in comparison October seems like an oasis.

Do our trips overlap at all? I really don't remember if I ever knew that.

Nahhh... Hardly any Mass (or other states') residents go to NH to buy liquor sans sales tax. :lmao:

That's why there are state liquor stores on the border of NH/Mass on both sides of Route 95!!! And near the border of Maine, too!!!

:drinking1

:rotfl: I better that's a great place to own a liquor store. You have to go through NH to get to Maine, right? I haven't been to NE in forever. I need to plan a trip. Used to go up to the White Mountains all the time when I was a kid. So pretty. I'm long overdue.

I love the Boston accent. It's very unique.

Hi! I'm back from my trip and all caught up - I think!

Welcome back! :cool1: I can't wait to read all about your trip. I bet you had a fabulous time! :thumbsup2

Sorry for your troubles with poor Max! I hope he continues to improve!

I've always liked having cats because they are low maintenance. But Max is no longer that. Yesterday I was at a friends for crabs and I had to leave to come home to give him his insulin. I love him, but he is now a lot of work. But thank you. I just want him to have a decent quality of life until he can't.

congrats to Nick on starting college and for you and Denny to be empty nesters. Sometimes I worry about how my girls will choose their colleges and how far away they will be. It will be such a change from all the running we do with them now!

I am still getting used to the empty nest thing, even though Nick is pretty darn close. It is a big change from all the running around. But once they start driving that changes anyway. That's about the only good thing when they start driving. Finally you don't have to take them everywhere. My biggest advice for college is start getting a general idea in 10th grade then start visiting in 11th grade because senior year just sneaks right up on them and its hard when they are narrowing down the choices and still looking well in to the spring. There are some colleges Nick never would have applied to if he had visited them earlier, but he drug his feet.

Bummer about the storm affecting your arrival.

It was not the best way to kick off the trip, but we recovered! :thumbsup2

Looks like you got a pretty nice place to stay even off property! I'm a fan of extra room too!

I was very happy with our choice and I would definitely stay there again if I was in a pinch and didn't have the right number of points. It was conveniently, very quiet, and nicely appointed inside.

We don't have "real" liquor in our stores either - just the 3-2 stuff. We can't buy booze on Sundays either (or cars, for that matter). Some of our grocery stores have an "attached" liquor store, that has to have a separate entrance and is closed on Sundays.

You can't buy cars on Sunday? What? That's crazy. All I can say is Saturdays must be really busy at the car dealerships. :rotfl: It's so crazy how the different states have so many different laws. Interesting though.

Our Costco has the separate attached liquor store, but regular grocery stores don't. That would be pretty convenient though.

We live near the WI border (15 minutes) and we could go there on a Sunday. But I'm usually not in any great need that I've ever had to do that.

That's what we used to do in Delaware - just drive to Maryland on Sundays, but they took away the no liquor sales on Sunday quite awhile ago.

I'm sure there was more I wanted to comment on, but I forget!

I completely understand.

A morning in an uncrowded Magic Kingdom is soooo nice!

I love the way the Splash Mountain area is themed with the birdhouses and lots of shade.

The Tangled bathrooms are nice - so new and clean.

Under the Sea is cute, but I can see where a man wouldn't really get into it. :upsidedow

I am a Big Thunder fan. It's a good 'middle-of-the-road' coaster. Everest is a bit too much for me.

For a June Morning you made good use of the time. Hit 2 of 3 mountains and several other E ticket rides.

I think we did pretty good, too. It was a nice morning and I really don't remember it being super crowded at any point that morning.

I have not had a chance to try the Tangled bathrooms either.
Need to make that list for Oct. :lmao:

Me too! I honestly can't believe I never went in there. I pride myself on "testing out" every bathroom in the world. :rotfl2:

When in October ?????

That's what I wanna know. C usually goes around the time you are there, so your trips may definitely overlap. We planned for a little later because Denny's BD is 10/31 and we wanted to be there for that. :thumbsup2

I wanna take pix tooo:rotfl2::rotfl2:

I have no doubt that Pat will provide us with multiple pictures, but we each need to take our own too! For research purposes!

Mary Ellen - Off Topic - :wave2:Hello Fellow Empty Nester! How are you? It has been a whirlwind couple of weeks here with the return of my older son from his summer internship in Texas and them moving them both to Lehigh on the 26th. Loved your comment about visit to Bethlehem, Lehigh is a great campus. As is Delaware.

I'm so glad your boys are settled in. We were up in the Lehigh area a few weeks ago - before move in day, but we didn't have a chance to revisit the campus. I wanted to go see it again.

My first morning as an Empty Nester was very depressing. It still feels pretty odd.

As far the Delaware campus, after move in day we went for a bike ride through the city of Newark with friends of ours. He is in maintenance at UD and they live fairly close to the campus. Their daughter is a freshman too. They took us on this "behind the scenes" tour of the entire campus and the network of biking paths that the city of Newark has put in during the last twenty years. Wow. I had no idea all that existed. What a nice recreational outlet for people in the area. I was impressed with the campus and really glad I got a chance to do that.

How is Nick adjusting? Also, loved your comment about your older son's house as Salisbury, my older son, just moved to an off campus house this semester. Lovely :rotfl:Can't believe we are paying rent. Think the owner should be paying us :rotfl2:

Nick is doing well. He feels very prepared for his Calculus course and his Chem course. He considered taking the second Calc course and using his AP credit for the first, but decided it might be better to ease into it. So far he feels the course work will be manageable. The only class he isn't looking forward to is English. He has 8 am classes every day of the week, so that's going to be a challenge for him. Of course, he is in the furthest dorm and has a 15 minute walk to class. We just brought him a bike so he can get around better. I guess that's an advantage to living close to home.

How is Connor doing? I am sure he is adjusting great. When is your parent's weekend? Do you go into the town of Bethlehem much when you go up there? Such a cute old town. I love visiting it.

OK - Loving your arrival report (and UD poncho). You did a great job hustling to get to Epcot for dinner and Illiuminations :cloud9: Rain or no rain love it!

I am really glad our evening worked out as well as it did. It was a great way to kick off the trip and those ponchos certainly came in handy. I had saved them from last summer's visit. The shocking thing is I found them again!

And of course your morning at MK - love the pictures. Hitting 2 of the mountains that quickly even with your long route to LM for FP's. Thinking Chuck will have same reaction to LM as Denny, but going to get those FP's first. Need that princess fix. Look forward to reading more. :)

Rebecca

Yeah - I think its a man thing. I mean, how many men are really psyched to ride the LM? Unless they are huge Disney movie freaks or have young daughters, it doesn't seem like it would be a top ten attraction for guys. Just sayin'. :rolleyes1

A morning in an uncrowded Magic Kingdom is soooo nice!

Isn't it? It was so nice to chill in Liberty Square and not have a ton of people around. It really was a nice morning for June. Not overly crowded and the heat hadn't cranked up yet.

I love the way the Splash Mountain area is themed with the birdhouses and lots of shade.

Me too! That is a great ride and one I can ride over and over again. Love it during the day and love it at night!

The Tangled bathrooms are nice - so new and clean.

The pictures look beautiful. I'm still shocked I didn't duck in there at least once. :confused3

Under the Sea is cute, but I can see where a man wouldn't really get into it. :upsidedow

Yeah, definitely not a "manly man" ride. I really think I should have prepared Denny a little better!

I am a Big Thunder fan. It's a good 'middle-of-the-road' coaster. Everest is a bit too much for me.

Exactly! I do love Everest, but I can't sit in the back rows - its too much for my head. But BTMRR is something I can ride over and over again with no after effects. Perfect ride!

You ventured there in July? Wow! That's pretty off season for you, isn't it? October is SO much better than summer. I will admit, June wasn't as horrible as it could have been, but in comparison October seems like an oasis.

Yes, I did - just for ~3 days and was VERY off season for me. I had some points that were going to be lost and when I found availability at Beach Club and a reasonable airfare I decided to go for it. To be honest, not sure I'd go again in the summer. Just too dang hot and too crowded. I've never seen it that crowded. Every seat on the Magical Express bus filled, 45 min wait for Pirates, side queue in use for Spaceship Earth, even the quiet pool busy and oh so many tour groups. I feel very lucky I have the luxury of planning trips without worrying about school or sports schedules.

When in October ?????

Do our trips overlap at all? I really don't remember if I ever knew that.

I will be there Oct 16-26. I think maybe we overlap by a day or two, MEK? I am taking Tracy's niece. I'm really looking forward to it but also know it will have some bittersweet moments as well. We have some fun things planned - MNSSHP, the Wild Africa trek and a special F&W lunch event. Also thinking about maybe checking out the new Grand Floridian spa for some pedicures.

Can't believe we are going NEXT month!! :yay:

Your MK photos are beautiful! I love how everyone seems to get a few classic shots that are the same, but you can always find so many pictures that you've never seen before - it never gets boring! How cool that you got to sit in the front on BTMRR! Definitely makes for some great photos.

You do overlap with me and Rosie!!!!! :cool1:

Nice update! Too bad you originally missed LM by a nose…….or is that an “ear”…….??? :confused3 :rotfl:

I like that view of the castle also. :thumbsup2 And way to reveal your hidden little secret by posing in the gallows with such a big smile. :rolleyes1

You still hit a lot of the early morning MK highlights! Nice rundown of all the “something’s” available for everyone on BTMRR. ::yes:: And :woohoo: for not getting wet on Splash!

You got some great pictures on Little Mermaid. :cool1: I haven’t yet found the right setting on my camera to overcome the low light combined with the movement of the ride vehicle! You obviously have that down pat with your camera!

Looks like you are going to just miss quite a few DISers on your trip, and overlap with a few more. October appears to be a great time for a Disney trip! :scratchin

I agree about the Mine Ride looking like fun. I cannot wait.
Nice you didn’t get soaked on SM.
I like the 2nd pic better.
Beast’s castle looks so far away from where you were by Little mermaid.
All caught up.

Well, at least you didn't have to waste you points and you got a little taste of Disney. I am sure you still found a way to relax. I have never been in July. Early June can be wicked enough. To me it all depends on how hot it is. This June was decent, as was last June, but I have to take a pool break every afternoon. In October I just went with whatever felt right at the moment.

And - oh by the way - I am no longer tied to the school year or sports schedules either. :woohoo:

Yes - we DO overlap! :woohoo: We arrive very late on the 23rd (8pm flight). I am not even going to bother with staying at Disney that night. We will just stay someplace cheap near the airport and then go check in at BVW first thing in the am. We should compare schedules because it would be awesome if we could do some F&W together before you leave.

I think its so awesome that you are taking Brielle. Wow! What a wonderful gift. Yes - I am sure it will be very bittersweet, but you know Tracy will be right there with the two of you. I don't doubt that for a moment. :goodvibes

Can't believe we are going NEXT month!! :yay:

I know! I am so excited and I am doubly excited for Denny to experience F&W. I know this will become a regular event for us. Everything about it was just so much fun and the perfect weather is the icing on the cake.

Your MK photos are beautiful! I love how everyone seems to get a few classic shots that are the same, but you can always find so many pictures that you've never seen before - it never gets boring!.

Thanks. That's such a nice compliment. I really enjoy taking pictures. The funny thing is sometimes you think you are taking a boring picture but in reality it shows just the right amount of detail. That's always a surprise when it happens. :thumbsup2

How cool that you got to sit in the front on BTMRR! Definitely makes for some great photos.

At first I didn't care that we got the front row, but then I discovered that it actually made a better photo-op. Such a great ride!

You do overlap with me and Rosie!!!!! :cool1:

:rotfl2: Lucky girls! I hope you get to run into each other!

Set up a Meet !!!!!!:cool1::cool1:

I agree! You really should. I am SO bummed I am missing you guys. :sad2: But I know we are all going to have a wonderful time despite missing each other.

Nice update! Too bad you originally missed LM by a nose…….or is that an “ear”…….??? :confused3 :rotfl:

:rotfl: Some of both perhaps? :rotfl2:

I like that view of the castle also. :thumbsup2 And way to reveal your hidden little secret by posing in the gallows with such a big smile. :rolleyes1

Thanks and thanks! Gotta have a big smile while you're in the gallows!

You still hit a lot of the early morning MK highlights! Nice rundown of all the “something’s” available for everyone on BTMRR. ::yes:: And :woohoo: for not getting wet on Splash!

We had a great morning in the MK. The lines were fairly short and the heat was not cranked up yet. And, seriously, is there anyone who DOESN'T like BTMMR? It's such a great classic ride.

You got some great pictures on Little Mermaid. :cool1: I haven’t yet found the right setting on my camera to overcome the low light combined with the movement of the ride vehicle! You obviously have that down pat with your camera!

I adjust my shutter speed only. No automatic modes. I try to get it slow enough that it lets enough light it but doesn't blur the pictures. I'm not sure if I have it down pat, but it definitely works better than what I used to try to do.

Looks like you are going to just miss quite a few DISers on your trip, and overlap with a few more. October appears to be a great time for a Disney trip! :scratchin

I know - totally bummed about just missing Rosie and Pat. I haven't met Rosie yet, but Pat is a total blast. Oh well, we really wanted to be there for Denny's birthday and I couldn't take two weeks off. Bummer!

I agree about the Mine Ride looking like fun. I cannot wait.

Me either! I know we will be in there in October 2014, so I hope its open by then. We may not buy a park ticket for that trip since we are also cruising. But I definitely want to hit MNSSHP.

Nice you didn’t get soaked on SM.

I am so happy about that. I don't know if you remember my picture from last October but I was totally decked out in a poncho when I rode Splash!

I like the 2nd pic better.

See - I knew there was a reason I posted two. :thumbsup2

Beast’s castle looks so far away from where you were by Little mermaid.

I know. Kind of a neat view. And we will be back there, soon enough!

I
All caught up.

:woohoo:

So, I just read it all in one go!

First: I'm so sorry about your dad.

Second: Thanks goodness Denny is OK...how scary! I cannot believe they wanted to discharge him without even doing a stress test -- thank goodness you were there to fight for it.

Third: Congrats on your new job, and on Nick's graduation. You sure have had a lot on your plate.

And more: I'm sorry it didn't work out (though it does sound like it was probably for the best), but I just need to say that "Disney Magic Creator" is the COOLEST TITLE EVER. I want business cards that say that!

I hate driving, too. Luckily, living in NYC I rarely have to. But DH idiotically (I generally think my DH is pretty brilliant, but in this case, he was undeniably idiotic, even he agrees) allowed his drivers license to expire, and it's a big pain to get a new one here, you have to re-take driver's ed. Which means that every time we're on vacation, I have to do all of the driving.

HHI looks beautiful! I'm glad you've made it to WDW, though, even if you are off-property! ;)

So, I just read it all in one go!

:welcome: Nory! Thanks so much for joining in and reading the whole TR in one sitting. Impressive (even though its mostly pictures :rotfl:)

First: I'm so sorry about your dad.

Thank you! I really appreciate that.

Second: Thanks goodness Denny is OK...how scary! I cannot believe they wanted to discharge him without even doing a stress test -- thank goodness you were there to fight for it.

It still irritates me that they tried to discharge him. What's worse is he would have gone. Ugh. So obvious that he needed that stress test. Definitely NOT rocket science.

Third: Congrats on your new job, and on Nick's graduation. You sure have had a lot on your plate.

Thanks. The new job is going well and Nick is settled at college. Both boys are and I officially have an empty nest, which just seems so bizarre. Just enjoy it because when they say it goes fast, they're not kidding. Crazy fast!

And more: I'm sorry it didn't work out (though it does sound like it was probably for the best), but I just need to say that "Disney Magic Creator" is the COOLEST TITLE EVER. I want business cards that say that!

Isn't it? I still really want to be one, but my job is so busy that I am not in a position to network. On top of that, I have to temporarily work overtime because a couple of the PA's I work with left. So, it really was the for the best. But someday! :thumbsup2

:faint: I have NO words. Well, maybe one WHY? So buy retaking driver's ed does that mean he has to literally go to a class and go out with a driving instructor? Ugh!

I would NOT be happy if I had to do the vacation driving. Fortunately Denny likes to drive so whenever we go somewhere I can just sit a veg and play cell phone games. You know - real intellectual stuff. Sometimes I step it up a notch and edit pictures!

HHI looks beautiful! I'm glad you've made it to WDW, though, even if you are off-property! ;)

HHI is really lovely. I highly recommend it.

Despite being off site, we had a wonderful time. It was a great trip!

I am sure they are chocked full of high fructose corn syrup. I really don't enjoy sickening sweet drinks like that. They kind of make me feel sick. I do believe the calorie account is essential. It should be there. If you are in denial then don't look.

I don't like them either, and they make you sick before the alcohol can even have it's way with you. No fun in that! And I totally agree about the calorie count, at the very least that should be on the label, but then I'm also one who wants to know what the heck is in it. And agreed, if you don't want to know, don't look!

It's funny that alcohol can be exempt from the same standards as other things we consume. It doesn't seem right. Totally doesn't make sense.

It doesn't does it? It shouldn't be considering how many GMO's they are using in their product, a lot of people are very allergic to them, including my son. Now that Ty is 21 and brave enough to talk to me about drinking, he's told me he doesn't like to drink beer because he has allergic reactions to it. I asked what they were and he said his mouth itches, throat itches, heavy congestion all of a sudden. I said yup!! Here, read this article......once he read the article I posted to you he understood that he needs to buy German made beer or organic beer from now on. LOL! He said he forgot about the stringent "laws" in making German beer and that he had learned that in school. Aaaaah, glad to see our hard earned dollars aren't wasted on our kids going to college. :sad2:

I definitely think nutritional labels should be on all consumable products. Thanks for sharing that information. :thumbsup2

You are most welcome! :)

Totally not a rant. I get it. I am sure you couldn't have made such a lifestyle change without paying attention to labels along the way.
::yes::
You would be right, along with lots of research and lots of articles along the way. :goodvibes

He is doing much better. Thanks! I still have NO idea what happened to him, although my latest theory is he got sick for licking pizza sauce off a home made pizza Denny was making. Apparently he licked off the entire pie. I did not KNOW that. :faint:

So glad!! Now our outside stray kitty is sick. :worried: She was bitten by the neighbor cat who's a major butthead, she's mean as heck!! Comes over just to be mean to our kitty who almost never leaves our yard since we started feeding her five years ago.

Great article Millie.

So glad you liked it!! Hope it was informative. :)

When do you normally like to go? I'm thinking Oct. like everyone else is talking about for 2014, I'd like to experience the F&W, and cooler weather than I'm use to. I usually go in May, although this last May was pretty amazing, only a few really hot days, not too bad.

:yay:

Awww, you are taking Brielle. :lovestruc It's bitter sweet just hearing about you taking her. :worried: I'm sure you'll both have a good time, laughing and crying together. It will be a good and hard trip, but one you'll both treasure forever. :lovestruc

Well, Mary Ellen, it sounds like MK was good choice!! :thumbsup2 I looove getting there early and enjoying our favorite spots first thing in the morning before everyone else gets there. :goodvibes

You hit all the spots I like to hit first thing in the morning. And tell Denny he's all washed up!! :rotfl: LM was awesome!! I was expecting it to be a let down because so many said it was, but Mackie and I loved it!! :lovestruc The que alone is amazing!!

And I too looooove that exact same side view of the castle. On our second trip I sat right there watching that same view with a funnel cake in hand as the park was clearing out for the evening and sat in peace watching the castle change colors at least 30 times. <happy sigh> :cloud9:

It's so exciting when you get in a queue with no line. It's hard to stop and focus on pictures. I did my best.

I always feel like someone is going to get upset with me for not rushing through the queue. I hate that feeling, so sadly I never stop to enjoy quite the way I would like.

I love MK when there are low crowds. Such great photo ops then!

Kinda odd that LM was not open yet. It seems to me like if the park is open EVERYTHING should be open. Not sure why it isn't the case though. I know in February, all of Liberty square and Frontierland were closed when we first got there. We had no choice, but to head to fantasyland. Glad you were able to get over to see it though once it finally opened. It is a neat ride, but really I think I am more impressed with the queue and the general area around the ride than the ride itself.

I am anxious to use the tangled bathrooms! They sound so cool! I have yet to see any one who has taken any pictures even though. Guess bathroom pics are frown upon.

BTMRR is my FAVORITE ride!!!

:faint: I have NO words. Well, maybe one WHY? So buy retaking driver's ed does that mean he has to literally go to a class and go out with a driving instructor? Ugh!

Yep, you have to take the class, spend a certain number of hours driving, etc. It's ridiculous! But what's even more ridiculous is that he had A WHOLE YEAR in which he could've just strolled into the DMV and gotten a new one (without any re-testing), and he didn't. So it's his own fault. But I'm the one that suffers! :sad2:

Nice update, Love the castle pics, I like the side view too, especially with the water there.

I am looking forward to seeing that Little Mermaid ride next trip. Too bad your Hubby wasn't impressed with it.

Great pics of the Mine Train construction. Maybe it will be done by then, at least it should be- we aren't planning to go until Fall 2014.

I have to agree with you, being in Liberty Square early in the morning is nice. you pretty much have the place to yourself!:goodvibes

Happy to see you were able to get in several rides before the heat really took over. I have yet to see the new queue for Thunder, and your pictures made me excited to return in December! It certainly looks like it was spruced up.

The LM attraction is great, but I could see where some people might not love it like some of us. After all, it is a dark ride based on a princess film. :confused3

Little Mermaid by way of Liberty Square? You should have made that left turn at Albuquerque.

I did think of someone who doesn't like Thunder Mountain: my son, Scotty. I still don't know what his problem is. We'll just have to force him back on the ride next time.

I guess the key to Little Mermaid is to temper expectations. It's not a thrill ride, it's a dark ride.

Nothing I love more than MK first thing in the morning....but Liberty Square empty....priceless! I love the era so I love spending time in that area!

Great shots of the new Fantasyland! I can't wait to see it on our next trip....something brand new to look forward to!
