I think we have a winner - DH job searching is over * updated 7/23

After nine months of not-so-good employment, temps who don't call back or simply a lack of employment, I think DH finally has landed on his feet.

He went to a mechanic who advertised needing help changing tires and other simple duties (well, simple for DH). DH figured he'd fill out the app., leave and wait for a call that never comes, but he was interviewed, and hired, on the spot.

He started the new job today and has gone to his parents' to pick up his own tools. Work is expected to pick up as they were turning away customers while they only had a few bodies available to do the work. With DH help they will be able to perform more repairs without making the customer wait or be turned away.

Eventually he may have an opportunity to obtain a state inspection and emissions certificate. For now, he's happy to have a job doing something he knows how to do, and a position that will keep him busy.

10 days on the job and things are going really well for DH. Another co. called him last week, since he started the current job, and he scheduled an interview this coming Tuesday. He was up-front with his current boss, telling him he had an interview and needed to check in to the other place because the current employer does not offer health insurance. His boss is "cool" with it and understands.

Meanwhile, DH has made quite an impression on the current boss - earned himself a .50 raise in his first week! He really likes the job. It keeps him busy all day, so much so that he almost misses lunch break. The hours fit perfectly to our schedule since right now we only have one car. (The job he is interviewing for would be 3-11 and does not work well for us).

Even though he is going to said interview, he has pretty much made up his mind that he wants to stay where he is. As for health insurance, since it is not offered by his employer I can add him to my plan. I just dread the additional chunk out of my paycheck, but I guess it would be coming from a paycheck no matter what.

Oh, after putting it off for fear of denial, DH applied for Unemployment benefits after the last temp. agencyfailed to call with a job after a week. He was approved and will received one full week and one partial week's checks.

Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts through these long months.

That is just great, Kris!!! I missed the earlier post of yours. What good news to hear, very happy for you guys. And yes, hurry, please, and get him covered on your health plan, so VERY, VERY important. My best to him, to you, to all of you.
