I think we "Dis'ers" have a jaded view on attractions.

For example, I nose around on alot of boards and I see that alot of people don't like this attraction anymore, or this ride needs a refurb because its been the same for years, etc.

For example, many people say MGM Backlot Tour needs to be changed, after you've seen it a couple times, its very "meh". But what about the first-timers? I remember the first time I rode it I was laughing at the Pearl Harbor beginning getting the person soaked and how cool it was at Catastrophy Canyon, I was telling all my family and friends about it. Now this post isn't about the Backlot Tour, I was just using that as an example, but you can input many rides in this slot.

I just think that we are in the minority of people that go so often that we feel we need these attractions updated constantly to keep things fresh for us. When Im sure the average Disneyworld visitor goes either once every 5 or more years or maybe just once in their lifetime. So what benefit is it to Disney to update something that most people will see once and enjoy, just to make the Disney nutjobs ( thats us ) happy, who they KNOW are returning regardless?

We go to Disney once a year - every July for the last 6 years. Nothing has been "ho-hum" yet. Please don't generalize. You don't know how to read my head and my excitement for Disney.

:thanks: :charac2:

I understand what you are saying. I have only been twice so far, so it's all pretty new to me. However, I do hear people talk about how boring/dumb/outdated rides are. It's funny though that some of these same people will get bent out of shape over Disney getting rid of a ride or redoing it. You can't have it both ways.

I know not everyone feels this way, but there are some people here that are like this.

Agree with OP. I try go ever 2-3 year, save up money, and enjoy every time .. forget some part of rides and go OH! THAT COOL! I FORGET THAT! WHAM!

I think the OP was just trying to state his opinion. I don't think he was pointing a finger directly at you. Lets not be so defensive. Here have some pixiedust: . I feel the same as the OP, but I can't change the way others feel or is it really any of my business how they feel. I just know that we went for the first time Jan. 05' and in Oct. it will be our 4th trip in 2yrs. So one of the biggest thrills for me was to be able to due the "older" "outdated" rides that I have read so much about. I was able to enjoy a little bit of the original WDW. Experience the nostalgia of years past. Yes these rides are in a way "outdated" and sometimes "chezzey"(Jungle Cruise) but it's part of what made WDW famous. And being able to enjoy that, and have my kids see and enjoy that, Is what makes it magical. I'm all for new rides but with the space available to them (Disney) I would rather see them expand then take out the older rides. JMHO for what it's worth.

I don't think the OP was talking about you specifically...just their opinion of what goes on around here.

Some things, like Sounds Dangerous and Stitch, I couldn't stand the first time I rode them. Others, like PoTC, have been changed and don't reflect their past glory...there is nothing fun about well-behaved pirates, IMHO. And some things really are past their prime, like Peter Pan and the first part of El Rio del Tiempo(that's my opinion - I know lots of folks love them!)

There are things that are still good, but I don't need to do them every trip - like the Hall of Presidents.

And there are classics - like CoP - that if they did away with them, I'd be screaming.

We all like what we like, though. :)

I'm going for my second visit as an adult in a couple of weeks, I went for a couple of day trips to the MK as a child. I hope that I never become jaded.
Gee, I LIKE the Tiki Room (and admit it) and even if some things are sort of cheesy...a day at Disney beats a day just about anywhere else!
I like to think that all of the Disney fans want their favorite place on earth to stay up to date, Disney has long been the standard by which other theme parks are measured...I think everyone just wants it to stay at the top.

Maybe I have a different view on things because I've gone well over 50 times, multiple times a year every year since "Disney World" was made up of the Magic Kingdom alone. For myself, DH and our families, it's a huge nostalgia kick for us when we see things that haven't changed. We grieve over some of the attractions that are gone (20,000 Leagues Under the Sea), but DH and I have a special fondness for Spaceship Earth since it was the first ride we ever rode together and can't wait for next week to see how POTC has changed.

It's so much fun to still get that jumpy feeling in my tummy when I hear "please stand clear of the doors" like I did when I was a little girl.

My husband and I have noticed how some people really bash Animal Kingdom - like it would be better spending the day having dental work done. We'll sometimes ask: have you seen the acrobats? ....no. Have you seen DeVine?....no. Do you like the parade?...."We always leave before the parade". And on & on it goes. We start to wonder what they actually do there.

Our family has been on numerous occassions and we all have our favorites & not-so-favorites. I personally think Space Mountain and Kilamanjaro Safari are just sort of ho-hum but a lot of people love those rides. If I live to be 100, I'll never tire of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad or Peter Pan. It is good that there are options for everyone.

There's nothing like the 'first time', IMO, with everything being new, exciting and completely overwhelming. :thumbsup2

I was afraid I'd get jaded, since we go into the parks so often, but because of our work there we tend to look at the parks as if we were 'new', as well as looking at them from the viewpoint of the repete visitor. It really does help keep that excitement going when you make a conscious effort to see it as a first-timer sees it.

We also look for the little details. Since it isn't possible, or even desirable, to have the attractions updated all the time, it's nice to know there are so many small things that DO change.

I love the old school rides and every time one goes away I am actually depressed about it. Losing Leagues under the sea, Mr. Toad, the Mike Fink Kilne boats and the Skyway was upsetting, I loved those rides.

I saw some things about the backlot tour as well, but it is still a cool ride. The point being while some minor changes are ok, I'm skeptical of complete renovations.

I love the charm of the older rides, such as Jungle Cruise, mostly because my plan when I retire is to move to Orlando and be a Jungle Cruise Guide..."If you enjoyed your ride my name is Kevin and this was the Jungle Cruise, if you did not like my name is Nicole and this is Space Mountain"...

How does everyone feel about some of the films that are a little "long in the tooth"? We've always LOVED Muppets 3D, but this time we could see that it might be time for a new one. (I think maybe it was the knock-out punch of the spectacular Philharmagic!)

Also wound up in HISTA (reluctantly) & all agreed we won't do it again. The movies are an "attraction", just not maybe the 1st thing we think of when we hear the term attraction. Do they have the same hands-off policy people feel about Pirates, Toad, etc., or is it okay to progress w/ the technology?

IMO, some of the funniest discussions I've seen have been the folks already discussing the replacement of the Soarin' film/theme. I will be surprised to see it playing in 10 or 15 years, but speculating on replacing it a year (give or take) in?

I know what OP is talkin' about.....There's a few things we just don't go on again when we go back because I don't want to, it's boring to me. So I just ignore it and go on the things that make me and my family happy...Some things never get played!
Yes, I do think that with our multiple visits me and my family have become jaded. But I liked whta Cleo said about noticing the little things when you've ridden a ride so many times, and that makes us happy. We come off saying, did you see that????
There was that thread about the Kilimanjaro Safari recently... :goodvibes
I said my two cents :rotfl: But it's Still Disney and I LOVE IT!!!

My family and I go to Disney way too often. It is only our 12 year old who gets tired of some of the attractions. I'm amazed at how often I missed something in a ride, and find out it was always that way. Dh and I are too hooked on Disney to get tired of the same old same old.

Very interesting thread!

I'm not sure it's about the frequency of the visits. Sometimes it's the who, what and when of that particular visit - kids ages, grandma along, etc.

There are some attractions everyone here seems to LOVE and I just feel "flat" about. Others, we all can agree - ( CoP?) desperately need updating but we would all have a fit if it closed down permanently. Likewise, I can't live w/o Wedway, since on our first and last visit with DH in '01, we went all around about 6 x because he was really to sick to do much more than that. It remains a "must-do" for us every trip.

Ditto Muppets. Old? By comparision to Philharmagic, yes! Would I miss it if closed? Don't even suggest such a thing!!!

Love Soarin'. Is WDW the "last" to have gotten an attraction of this type - ? - vertical IMAX? Probably. But I will tell you that I was exhilarated and "high" most of the day after that!!!

Very interesting comments here, too - esp. the poster who still gets the tingles from childhood when they say "Stand clear of the doors!" :wizard: To me - that's EXACTLY what it's ALL about!

Anyone who considers themselves an authority on any subject (and we have more Disney authorities here than anywhere else in the real world) is naturally going to be more harsh on the things they love than a casual fan. Us Disney nuts really do love everything (or most everything) about Disney, but the more we visit, and the more we learn about The World, the more we notice the little things, the things that seem out dated, or lame, the faults essentially.

I dont know why this is. I LOVE movies almost more than anything in the world. But, I absolutely HATE about 95% of all movies I watch. It's kind of a sad trade off, the more I learn about film, and how its made, it seems the fewer movies I actually enjoy. Sometimes, I wish I could go back to being a casual fan, and enjoy almost any and everything I could watch.

Most of what I'm tired of is what I didn't like the first time around. For instance, the backlot tours FX tank has never excited me. However, I DO miss the residential street. *sigh*

Someone mentioned MuppetVision. That's an attraction I NEVER get tired of. I grew up with The Muppets and seeing that show gives me amazing warm fuzzies. Please, Disney, never change that. And if you do, make SURE it remains Muppet oriented and Waldorf and Statler remain in the balcony. :)

Now, there are some exception. It's a Small World has completely lost the zeal it had for me as a child. However, Peter Pan's Flight always makes me feel like a kid again.

I'll admit that I'm one of those fans that worries about SO many Pixar attractions being added. That kinda makes me worry. But I still love Disney. I'll be there in less than a week!! :wizard:

Yeah, I worry about the Pixar attractions taking over too. I'm a bit of a traditionalist. Personally, I love to see new attractions, but I hate to see old ones go, or get revamped. The new version of Journey Into Imagination is possibly the worst thing I have ever witnessed in my life, where as the original was my favorite ride as a kid. So far as rides like Its A Small World and Peter Pan, I was never big fans of those rides even as a kid, however, I feel that Disney would lose something magical by taking them away, or changing them. When I got to Disney World, I go to enjoy the nostalga just as much as the new technology Disney has to offer, and to me, it's always a terrible tragedy when a long standing, old ride is removed or redone to add some marketing twist, or cheap thrill to draw in the casual tourist.

See, I love Disney... and look how critical I am...

Tell me about it!

I bought the WDW HCOE soundtrack and when the original Imagination song came on, I just burst into tears.

Stupid idea to change that one. Stupid!
