I think my neighbors moved and left their cat

From me also. You are going the extra mile. A lot of people would just let the cat fend for itself. Thanks! :thumbsup2

No thanks needed! I could NEVER NOT DO THIS. You are talking to someone who took off from work because she found a lost pug and the shelter wasn't open until 10. I also rescued a parakeet from the 18th floor of my office building in NYC. DH and I took a baby bunny to the emergency vet after hitting him accidentally with our RV...oh, that was horrible.

We got our bunny from the shelter and he came with a similar story. His previous owner had left him in an apartment with their pet cats after they moved out!! The poor guy was just left there in the empty locked up place being chased and tormented by two (probably hungry) cats :sad2: Needless to say he's always had trust issues, he's only just coming around to us and we've had him almost 2 years.

My neighbors did that! They moved and left their darn cat here..I finally had the town put a trap out and catch it and put it to sleep. Now before anyone starts telling me I am heartless etc...even before they left the cat was a nightmare..one day my 76 year old mother was walking outside and it leaped out of the bushes and bite her in the leg requiring a Dr's visit and medication! It went to go after my then 1 year old that I had sitting out on the front lawn with me and it got to the point we couldn't leave the house without being afraid it was goi nto jump us! I had never known a cat so mean in my life! The wouldn't adopt it out at the town since it had bitten like that already so they ended up putting it to sleep!

Thank you for taking care of the cat! I'm a softy too in fact my last 4 cats have all been strays. My Maine Coone was left by the previous tenants in the apartment above me, nice. She unfortunately suffered from anti-freeze poisioning from them leaving her out and I had a lot of Vet bills over the years I had her. How can people sleep at night after they have done these things.

One Idea is if they have just moved they are probably still having their mail forwarded so you could write them at their former address and they would get the letter and ask them what they plan on doing -isn't pet abandonment against the law and they know you know their name. Other than getting them in trouble and letting them know what low life scum you think they are it may be too good for them and the cat will be better off somewhere else.

I tried that with the town I live in and they told me it does not pertain to cats...dogs it is illegal to abandon but cats it is not..

If the property was listed by a real estate company, contact the listing agent and let them know what is going on. Then, at least, you'll know for sure if they are on vacation or if they have actually moved. The agent may give you their contact info. We see it all the time as agents, I've seen folks leave dogs chained up outside their house and then just move. I can't use the words here that I'd like to!!! :guilty:
