I think its time we opened a new pool temp thread

That is a good point about the change of "season" coming up after the holiday travelers return home. I will be there on the 13th. Hope the pools are warm! I'll see about bringing a pool thermometer as well.

I haven't read the whole thread, but we will be there March 17 and I want the pools at OKW to be at least 83 degrees. 85 would be even better. Or 90 if it's cold outside.

Thanks!

Should we have a pool temp preference poll?

We put our hands in BWV and SAB pools in passing they felt very warm as well last week, just didnt swim in them or have the thermometer along to verify.

Well, I certainly hope the temperature at WL main pool remains at about 87 for the week of 1/13 thru 1/20. According to Accuweather the air temp in FL will begin going down on the 13th, so, the pool temps will need to remain high in order for me to go in (even in the summer I like my pool water like luke warm bath water). I know when we were at BWV two years ago (1/05)
the water wasn't as warm as I would have liked it to be. Last year we were there in December and had too many other things we wanted to do and the weather was good, but, we didn't care if we went in the pool at all (I think our two sons may have one afternoon but DH and I didn't)

I'm just a points renter, not an owner (yet), but we will be at VWL 1/4 to 1/12 and intend to use the pool and resort quite a bit. That is one of our favorite things about this annual January trip. We do own a pool and we will bring our pool thermometer and take some readings. I will share them here if ya'll would like me to...

Yes please let us know what the pool temps are during your stay. We spent a few days at VWL at the end of Jan '06 and the main pool was as warm as bath water. It was wonderful! Not long after we returned from our stay people started reporting a noticeable drop in the pool temperatures so I'm very interested to know what Disney does this winter.

I really hope the pool is as warm for you as it was for us in Jan '06. It was the highlight of our trip to go swimming in January!

Just returned from a fabulous trip, part at the VWL & part at SSR. The pool temps were great at VWL for the whole time we were there. We swam every evening. We switched to SSR on the 26th, kids love the pool, and it was great that evening & the 27th (even with the temps in the 50s) but on the
28th they did something to the temp and it was very noticably cooler. It was not comfortable at all in the pool with the sun shining and the outside temp in the high 70's. Same thing on the 29th, even the hot tubs had cooled off.

Other than the last two days the pools were perfect at both resorts.

hmmm, sounds like when the day temps go up, the pool temps go down. Even a couple of degrees will make a BIG difference. And even though day temps may be up, the evening temps are low and the heat gained during the day is soon lost. I have owned a pool most of my life (had one as a kid and as an adult), and my son swims competitively so we are pretty comfortable around pools. I can tell you, the kids notice a differnce in pool temps!! Those that adhere to the "red cross" standard are considered "cold" pools to the kids.

I will bring the pool thermometer and let you know what happens when we are there. Can't wait!!

Just returned back from BC and the pools had steam coming off of them becasue the air was so cold compared to the pools. The pools were easily 83 or more because we felt them with our feet and they were warm.

We keep our pool at 92 in the summer becasue we hate a cool pool so we would have swam in there pools if we were not so busy.

Please DISNEY keep the pools warm in the winter.....

Most kids love to swim....parents not happy if pool cold:sad2:
Thanks
Kerri

Please - any one who wants the pools warmer as much as I do. Contact Member Services and let them know how much value a warm pool adds to your experience. They say they are keeping tabs on the situation, but I don't know if that means reading this thread!

I wrote to complain about the cool temps of the pools, and got a terse "we are keeping the pools at 80-82 degrees". I was there at Christmas, and the pools were about 81 degrees. No one swam in the pools, except on the days the air temp was in the 80's, but the hot tub was very popular with everyone.:woohoo: They are wasting money if they heat to 82, and no one uses the pool.

Just back from a few days at OKW. Don't have any exact readings but the main pool was a lovely temperature. The days were warmer than in say November when I've complained about the pool temperature but the difference in water temp. from our Nov. trip at VWL and Jan. at OKW was striking. It wasn't just me either, the kids stayed in for hours and many other people were swimming as well, even on the rainy day we had.

Came back from VWL on 1/4. We didn't go in the main pool because it was crowded with people and their little ones....definitely playing in it for extended periods. To me that implied it was pretty warm. They were even in there in the evenings. The quiet pool was probably in the low 80's. My niece had no problem staying in it and niether did the other kids who were using it. The adults pretty much went over to the hot tub. I stayed in the pool because its about the temperature the gym pool is for water aerobics...in other words a coolish 82...84 feels warm to me. If I'd worked out I'dve been happy.

We swam at a number of pools during our recent trip:

Volcano pool at Polynesian - the coolest feeling of all the pools we swam in - doubt the temperature was warmer than 78 or so - we noticed that there did not seem to be a lot of natural sunlight reaching the pool with the sun being relatively low in the sky (we stayed at Poly Dec 28-Jan 1)

Ole Man Island - Port Orleans Riverside - decent temperature - warmer than the Poly main pool was - swam there on Jan 4 (DS#1 on Jester Cruise and we pool hopped using DVC perks) - I would guess around 80 degree temperature

Stormalong Bay - stayed at BCV Jan 1-Jan 6 - the pool temperature was great - it was about 82 degrees which in our opinion is perfect - we were able to stay in the pool as long as we wanted to - having said that and despite the warm weather, the pool was not busy - wondering if a lot of people just assume the pool or the weather will not be nice enough to swim and do not bother trying.

Dunes Cove Pool - BCV Quiet Pool - warmer than SAB - the heat was on quite strongly here - guessing into the mid 80's temperature range.

Typhoon Lagoon wave pool - posted temperature of 80 degrees on December 30 and 82 on January 6 - great temperatures - pool was very comfortable. The temps were cooler in Ketchakiddie Creek and Crush n Gusher - would guess high 70's.

Cheers
