I think I made a mistake in purchasing my new lens

Instead of replacing that lens, replace your neckstrap. The one that came with my camera is awful. I have this strap and love it. Makes all the difference in the world.

The neckstrap really will make all the difference. I'm a fan of the hippie straps. I had one with my first Minolta 25 years ago and am finally faced with replacing it (it carries my RebelXT now) and am so glad to have found they still make them!

Like others have said, That is my "walk-around" lens as well.

the camera almost feels like a little toy when I switch to the Canon 50mm f1.8.

AND we cant forget, that maybe, just maybe an SLR isnt for you! We've tried to give you opinions and pointers, but what you have now will be about the lightest that camera will be with a zoom of any type on it. Or maybe it's not the camera for you RIGHT NOW. I'm sure a lot of us, myself included, just would never be happy with a P&S, but it wont work for everyone.

Perhaps you're right. I may not be worthy of a DSLR and its capabilities. And that is sad because my XT's worst photo taken with AF is better than the best one taken with our Sony Cybershot.

I suppose I'm looking for some middle ground here. I don't know what I'll decide. But if I decide on the p&s perhaps people won't be looking past their long, heavy, DSLR lenses at me.

Thanks everyone for your advice and help. And mostly for listening to rambling as I tried to make a decision. I do believe I'm done here. Time to move on, pick a lens/camera and be happy with it. :thumbsup2

No NO NO.. I think I came across wrong. It's not that you arent worthy, from your other post

Our hands are full with our toddler and infant and I just don't know how I can juggle a piece of equipment like that lens?

Maybe at this point it's not the best one for you if you are juggling them also. BUT in a year or 2 when you can put them down some, you will probably LOVE LOVE your SLR..

I for sure didnt want it to sound like you werent worthy!!! :scared1:
That was NOT my intention at all. I know you are feeling a little bummed right now, but I still think that the SLR will be for you :). Or right now, just use the kit lens, or even get the 50mm 1.8 that's even shorter and lighter and use those :)

So why the inner turmoil? The XT is producing good shots for you, why move to a camera that won't produce as consistently good photos?
