Day 7:
I figure I should go directly to the source, so I tackle a mousekeeper on our way downstairs and bluntly ask for a mouse. Unfortunately, she didnt speak English so she kept referring me to the front desk. I think she thought I was complaining about my room while saying the word mouse a lot. Maybe she thought we were rodent infested.
FIL was still ailing, so hubby and MIL went to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure while I took miss too-short-to-ride-anything-at-Universal back to the MK. I let her have the run of the day and we started out at the Jungle Cruise,
walked on Aladdins carpets (ha ha, no really there was no line),
suffered through the Enchanted Tiki Room (they really need new management), had a nutritious breakfast of Mickey premium ice cream bars (hey, thats what happens when Im left unsupervised),
and then back to Mickeys House, where I was careful to keep my head and limbs to myself. Then we went to the store that was right next to his house and discovered the evil-but-all-too-compelling Little Pony bins.
They have these boxes underneath the bins of ponies, carts, hats, glasses, brushes, etc. and everything you can shove in the box while still being able to close the box, is $18. While K played with all the ponies and 500 of their crucial accoutrements (and almost came unglued when a CM tried to tidy the area up), I entertained myself by stuffing pony paraphernalia into a box. Wow you really can get a lot of stuff in here. Sunglasses, we need sunglasses. And blankets, blankets are important for plastic horses. What are these hat things? Ill just take two of those. Turns out, theyre shoes and two doesnt do much good when one has four feet. So I buy my bursting box when the child is not looking and we head back to Splash Mountain.
After the 6th time on Splash Mountain, K is getting pretty jaded by the big fall into the briar patch and is starting to eye Thunder Mountain Railroad a bit more seriously.
I warn her about the noise and the racket the train makes going up the tracks and she conned me into covering her ears (each time!) for a significant duration of the experience. Other than that, she is in heaven and we ride Thunder Mountain over and over, sometimes alternating with Splash Mountain until we are completely sick of both of them. We then go to Astro Orbiter, which I realized is the one ride in all the parks that gives me the willies because its so high above everything and yet the seat belt is a flimsy joke. One last Carousel ride and we get trapped by parade ropes.
Since we know from experience that one cannot move during a parade without making enemies, we make the sensible choice and stand on a short wall next to Ye Olde Christmasse Shoppe to watch the parade, and afterward return to the hotel to get the daily dirt from the rest of the family. FIL is starting to feel better, hubby and MIL had a fantastic time at Universal and thought that Spiderman and The Mummy were about the best rides/experiences theyd ever seen.
And I am not jealous, hardly at all.
And finally, a duck from mousekeeping!
Its small and its not a mouse, but at least I know they care . . ..
Day Eight:
FIL is feeling much better and ready to spend the day with Hubby at DisneyQuest. The rest of us have reservations at the Crystal Palace, but when we tried to get into the parks, MILs card wont work. The CM put it through a number of times to demonstrate that it was just a room card. Oh, we get it! Its just a room card.
Okay, so first a trip to Guest Services where my MIL effectively argues that she really really did pay for todays festivities, we just had a split reservation. Finally they find the record of payment and off we are to breakfast at the Crystal Palace, which is the best buffet breakfast in all the parks.
Our server had to manhandle Pooh back to our table for a photo, which was ultimately a terrible photo (of me, and since its my camera . . .) anyhow, but it had to be done. The rest of the photos are pretty cute.
After breakfast, we did a few things at MK but it was too crowded for fun, so we head to Downtown Disney. And Downtown Disney and I discovered a new Little Pony bin! With more shoes and different hats and jackets with wings! Hoorah! Ive never really had an affection for Little Ponies, but arent these Mickey ears just adorable? Another box stuffed with Pony pieces goes into my backpack. K plays with Lego toys and I admire the Lego designs
until we get a snack at the Earl of Sandwich. Not bad.
We pick up the boys at DisneyQuest and they had a great time! They purchased videos of their roller coasters, and FILs was so loopy that it had a 5 out of 5 on the barf-o-meter.
Time for the hand-off, and MIL and I say goodbye to daughter in order to see Cirque du Soleil.
We ordered the tickets the first day they were on sale and we got right in the middle, a few rows up, and were in heaven. The show was so exciting and the stage very well put together. The choreography just cannot be beat and my MIL, who has only seen CdS on videos, watched the show with her chin in her hands, just like a little girl. Ive never heard her applaud with so much enthusiasm and I am really super glad we decided to go.
The bus driver back to the Boardwalk was hysterical. Everytime someone new got on the bus, he indignantly announced that federal regulations prohibit anyone standing in the gray square next to the back door and the offending patrons moved. Then he (again indignantly) announced that federal regulations prohibit anyone from standing on the bus when there are seats available and the lone stander, who was talking to his family while standing up, quickly found a seat, but patrons started snickering at the bus driver. So he announces that Its a real regulation, I had to take it on my driving exam and sounds all offended. The whole bus laughed harder. I have no idea whether this guy was joking or not but I believe he started taking the turns a bit sharper after that.
We met everyone else for dinner at Spoodles on the Boardwalk. Before dinner, FIL had taken K swimming again and she could barely keep her eyes open. Dinner there was good, the service once again very good, and we returned to the hotel to arrange a late check out for the next day, and to say goodbye to FIL who was leaving early the next morning back to Oregon.
