What's wrong with me????

I've been trying off and on for several days to get this eyelet setter to work. It's the one from Wal Mart called M'Bellish brand, and I don't know if it's me or the setter. I even got a setter for grommets in the sewing section at Wal Mart (small town--only thing here :( ). It states on the package it works with 1/8" grommets, so shouldn't it work with eyelets too? NO!! All it does is eat up the bottom part of the eyelet, and then the top part gets stuck around the point on the setter.

I'm ready to pull my hair out! :crazy2:

I called a scrapbooking store that's an hour away from me and asked if they sold setters. "No, we don't. We only sell the eyelets." Okay, so I asked if she knew where people found the setters at. "No, we only sell the eyelets."

Do you see where this is going? I mean, they sell all kinds of scrapbook things, but don't know anything about where to get something to set the eyelets (that are sold in their store) with. I'm just going around in circles I guess. Michael's is not an option until this weekend. Do they sell something there that works?

I went back and ran a search on setting eyelets, and it seems as though most of ya'll order online. I wish I could get this crazy thing to work that I already have. All it does it tear the eyelets up and misshapes them.

I got the Making Memories tool kit at Michaels & use that. So far I haven't had any trouble setting them. :confused3

I was really confused, though, when I first bought the tool kit because I'd seen pix on-line of the setter & mine didn't really look like them. I was just looking again & couldn't find a picture of the "flower" end of the setter. There's nothing that protrudes from the end like the picture at the MM site shows.

I wish I could help you!

I did some searching on the M'Bellish brand & found that some people got it to work, while others couldn't. (But that seems typical of most brands - at least from reading what's written on scrapping boards.)

"I bought the M'bellishment set from Wal-Mart and I don't like it at all!! It just crushes my eyelets and bends them. I thought maybe it was me, but I practiced and practiced but they still keep coming out the same. The tip of the eyelet setter doesn't fit into the back of the eyelet at all. I think I'll go to Michael's and buy the MM one. The only thing I do like about the Wal-Mart set is the hole puncher. That works great!"
and
"I have to agree. I bought the walmart m'belish set and it warped my eyelets. It crushed the backs of them. I ended up returning it and getting my money back. I broke down and spent the money to get the CTMH eyelet setter. Its SO GOOD! I love it!"

I bought some of the M'Bellish eyelets on clearance at Walmart earlier this week. If DH wakes up (he is napping cause he is sick :sad2: ) I will try one of them and let you know how much success I have. I have the Making Memories setter. I have always used Making Memories eyelets up til now. I'll try to report back later................P

That's exactly what I thought too. I didn't think the tip of the setter seemed to fit on the eyelet. Maybe that's what is really causing the problem. :confused3 I do know that I'm packaging this back to Wal Mart.

The eyelets were getting crushed too, just as the reviewer stated. I was going to ask if they were supposed to look like that after setting, but since I've used grommets before when making purses, I knew that couldn't be right.

Hopefully I can get to Michael's this weekend and look for the Making Memories kit.

I looked at the M set at my Mart last night and it didnt seem to be that different than the sets I have (I have some random set thats just 2 bars of metal either with a point end or a hold punch end from years ago that works wonderfully) and also the silent setter (which isnt as wonderful IMO)

If ya can't find a good one let me know and I can get one here and send it out- Eyelets should be fun!

Just wanted to say that I found someone in my town that scrapbooks. Well, I guess I should say that she scrapbooks a lot, as she is a rep for the Close To My Heart scrapbook line. She's going to help me with eyelets this afternoon, so maybe I can get going now. Yay!!

That's great! I hope you figure this out. Let us know how it turns out. :)

Sorry that took so long.... I got a chance to try it this morning. I set two of the M'Bellish eyelets using my Making Memories eyelet setter with NO TROUBLE at all. They came out just fine. So my conclusion would be that you need a new setter. The MM setter is under $5 at Michael's. ........P

Thanks! I'm going to go to Michael's in the morning for that great sale their having. DD found a coupon for us to use, so I hope to find a great deal on something with it. For less than $5, I'd be glad to find something that really works. Thanks, P!

Sorry to be posting again after my own last post, but I FINALLY found out how to set eyelets! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I didn't get to go to Michael's this morning, as didn't get to visit DD who lives out of state (and has the Michael's coupon :( ). So, I decided to get busy looking around here for the answer to my problems. Yesterday I found someone here in town that scraps, and she uses some kind of a pointed metal punch to set eyelets with. She said she ordered it out of a catalog a few years ago, and couldn't find another one like it lately.

Well, I looked at Wal Mart in the leather crafting section thinking I might find a punch like this, but no luck either. So we went to the hardware store and I found something that DOES work. I bought a punch made by Enderes Tools called an F-2 Center Punch with a 17/64" point. I paid about $3.60 for this punch. I tried it as soon as I got home, and I can't believe it! I can finally set eyelets! It works with those M'Bellish ones from Wal Mart, and the ones I ordered online. I bought an extra box of those eyelets at WM this morning for $5 (marked down from $9.97) with 500 in a box of primary colors. Now that I finally have a way to set these eyelets, I'm good to go!

I'm still kinda bummed about not making it to Michael's today, but this is really making my day soooo much better!

Glad to hear you figured it out!!! (Now I expect to see you posting LOTS of pages on the March challenge ;) )!..............P

:cheer2: Hooray!!! I'm so happy for you! I'm sure that was frustrating. :( But all is well now! :cheer2: :cheer2:

I've been having fun all afternoon setting eyelets for my tags! I'm not so sure my family is overjoyed at my newfound "toys". I keep hearing disneyfreakjackie singing in the background while I'm hammering, "She bangs, she bangs!". LOL!!!

I just use my small hole punch to make the hole and then a regular hammer with a piece of cloth over it. It works for me
