Hi Folks!
Man, what a roller-coaster week this has been. Thanks to those who responded to my *sigh* post on Wednesday; that was a particularly dark day for me, and some of the posts really cheered me up!
About 2.5 months ago, I submitted a resume to a very small law firm for a legal assistant position; I heard about the position at the placement center at school, and it intrigued me as it specified working with people with disabilities, which was a career I had in the past. After hearing nothing for nearly 2 months, I assumed the position had been filled, and my resume hadn't made the cut (as I had no legal experience). About 3 weeks ago, the attorney in question gave me a call, and said she was still looking. We spoke on the phone for nearly 30 minutes, and scheduled an interview that went extremely well.
A week later, she called to regretfully tell me that despite feeling I'd be wonderful in the position, another candidate with lots of legal experience had gotten the job. She said I was her very, very close second choice, and she would pass a recommendation and my resume on to anyone she knew who was looking for a legal assistant.
Well, it turns out the other candidate lied on her resume, and had virtually no legal experience at all. This morning, the attorney called me and said that if she was going to have an assistant with no experience, she wanted me. She also said her gut instinct had told her to hire me to begin with, but the logical lawyerly side of her decided that the legal experience was more important.
Anyway, I start on Tuesday. I'm a little nervous, but tremendously excited. I love the law, and although I started my paralegal certification program with the intent to follow it up with law school (I already have a BA, but wanted a mild introduction to law before jumping into law school and learning I hated it), I decided I wanted to work in the field as a paralegal first.
