so my school's xmas dance is in a week. the theme is "christmas in paris." the dance takes place on two floors of my school, centered around a main staircase, that the dj plays behind. the main dance floor is in between the two stair cases. the cafeteria serves drinks. its a big shebang.

well, today, my old gym teacher stopped me in the halls and asked me to help. she took me to a store room and showed me what she was calling an "eiffel tower." (it looked like a kindergartener took a hack saw to some styrofoam) she asked me to fix it.

i spent two hours with the student body president in an autoshop garage freehanding a new eiffel tower stencil onto some fresh styrofoam (why styrofoam? i don't know. its what they gave me to work with)

i'm turning the support beams in the dance area into trees, and we're having christmas in paris, but "outdoors".

i'm going to have the eiffel tower and a city scape against a wall, overlooking the main dance floor.

i'm going to lace "stars" through the ceiling tiles, to give it more of the "night timey" atmosphere.

i'm going to lace lights through the banisters.

i'm making the cafeteria out to look like a french cafe.

i'm putting benches, tables, and street lamps in the area where the kids hang out.

currently, i'm trying to work out exactly how i'm going to attach three separated pieces of eiffel tower styrofoam together... (any ideas?)

mrs youngblood (the advisor) has basically given me the reins to do as i will. i have probably 10-20 solid workers who are going to listen to me to get all of this together. i have a week.

do you guys have any suggestions of something i should do?

do you guys have a winter formal/xmas dance?
whats your theme?
best school dance experience?

Wow shelbs I have nothing much to say on the subject except you can totally come and decorate for any themed parties I may have in the future! It sounds so incredibly awesome!

When I was in high school we had winter homecoming dances. They were in February.

haha thanks. i'm going to take like ten thousand pictures of it once i get everything together, for my portfolio.

And for the DIS ;)
We are your rocks after all.
xD

hot glue?

probably not the most stable thing though...

and youngblood is a name I used in one of my stories!

hot glue melts styrofoam.
this is so complicated! haha.

and yeah, her last name is youngblood. i also have a friend who's last name is younglove.

I have no advice really, I'm not creative like that.

Our theme is High Life on the High Seas. It's a casino/cruise ship type deal.. One poster has dice in a martini glass and the other is of a lifesaver. All I know that they'll have is a bar type deal.. you know with shirley temple like drinks.

That sounds like it will be amazing.

For attatching the styrofoam, don't use a glue gun... go to a craft store and see if they have styrofoam glue or spray adhesive, then use toothpicks in it.

that sounds so cool!

I have no advice though as I'm not very crafty at all.

okay.
i spent thirteen hours today doing xmas dance stuff.

we have four of the trees finished, and thats all i can do without help of the maintenance crew. for the rest, i have to use a lift, that i cannot operate alone.

the trees look amazing. we're hanging lights tomorrow, and i'm going to work on the cafe.

the city scapes are wonderful. i've not finished the effiel tower yet, but that should happen tomorrow or wednesday. i'm going to be staying after school every day this week.

i left school today to go buy more christmas lights, we'll need more soon. i'll probably leave tomorrow too. i ate lunch off campus with my friend jack (we're working on this together. he's the class president, so we left to go get all the stuff together.)

we're getting mistletoe too.

i'm pretty excited. its all coming together fast.

That sounds amazing. I don't know of any school dances for our school, but I'm a sophomore and the youngest, we're never invited.

xmas dance is for everyone.
prom is for seniors/dates of seniors.

That sounds awesome!

For attaching the styrofoam, try super glue and toothpicks.

its sixteen feet, and it needs to be super stable. i talked to a contractor who suggested silicon caulk. i'm goign to test that tomorrow.

Could you glue it (or use the stuff you mentioned) to like a wood board or something?

Oh yeah I forgot about that stuff!

But if you used enough toothpicks it would be sturdy...:rolleyes1

How are you going to keep it sanding up?

i'm gorilla taping it to the wall, i think. that tape doesn't come off easily.
