I should be in Europe right now and I’m depressed

I hear ya! We started 2020 with 3 vacations planned - my husband had qualified for his company’s sales trip to Jamaica, my daughter was supposed to dance at Disney springs with her dance studio for the 1st time, and our November cruise. So far, we’re 0 for 2. Praying for a miracle for our cruise!

Sometimes I remember that’s it’s just missed trips, that it’s not a big deal, that all that matters is that my friends and family are happy and healthy. But most of the the time, I’m over here throwing myself a big pity party 🤪

Don't know where you were supposed to go in Europe, but the weather is absolutely terrible in the area of UK, Belgium, Netherlands. Today it has been raining non stop. And it has been raining on and off for two weeks!

I like how you say it the loss of a hobby. I have the same, planning trips is my hobby. Almost living from trip to trip. And now I see myself constantly change, due to the changing situations. I had thought going to Portugal for a long weekend, but now.... Portugal closed again. I am now thinking about Paris for the first week of September, but I don't want to think about it too much.

My US trip was supposed to start in 1 month, and I know already on the departure day I will be sad.

I hear you. I love planning just as much as I love the actual travel. I've had 3 trips cancelled this year and just waiting for my October cruise to be cancelled. It's not just the cancelled travel that has got me down. I haven't seen anyone except the people in my own house and my sister's family for 4 months. No book club, lunch with coworkers, nothing. It's super depressing. I work from home for now and go to the grocery store on Saturday morning. That's it. I would love to head to the beach or just somewhere but I won't be part of the problem.

I hear ALL of you:( This was to be big travel year for us. We are 60+ and retired so we try to make travel memories more than once a year if we can. We should be on Kauai right now with our kids, their spouses and our five grandkids. Like an earlier poster said, I will "get over it" once our original return from Kauai date gets here. We had our first river cruise with planned with dear friends in August down the Rhine with side trip to Oberammergau to see the Passion Play (it has been performed every 10 years since the 1600s and most recent cancellation was 1940). Sigh...postponed until 2022.

And finishing the year with our first DCL cruise over Thanksgiving with our son and family which we haven't cancelled but plan to before PIF unless DCL beats us to it. So thanks for letting me whine lol. I do know there are more important things and many reasons to be grateful but - ouch - the travel loss still hurts!

Glad to know I'm not alone. I always have to have a trip planned to look forward to. We were supposed to be at WDW the last week of March: cancelled, we were supposed to be on a DCL cruise to Alaska the first week of June: cancelled (we had to cancel Alaska last year also). After our cruise was cancelled, we moved our WDW trip to that week: cancelled again. My daughter was supposed to go to Great Wolf Lodge for her birthday: opening date has changed 4 times so far and we keep rescheduling. We have rescheduled our Alaska cruise to July 2021 and have the DCL Greece cruise booked for June 2021: we will see if they happen. We DO have Yellowstone booked for next week. We can drive there and I've never been able to get places to actually stay IN Yellowstone, so I'm excited about that. As soon as I booked Yellowstone, I felt better!

Ahhhh I love Yellowstone!!

It’s okay to be sad about what you’ve lost, even if others are going through much worse. I mean if someone is telling you they lost their mom to covid don’t mention your lost vacation but otherwise feel what you feel.

We’re supposed to do Northern Europe in August 2021. It’s my dream cruise and one I never thought I’d be able to do but the 40 percent off we were offered after our Panama Canal cruise in March made it possible. At the time we booked on-board August 2021 seemed plenty far away but now I don’t know.

My oldest isn't a senior yet but she is about to turn 14, so I'm kind of in the similar boat of, "We only have so many trips left with her as it is."

Hugs for missing your vacation.

I did want to say that you might have more trips left with your daughter than you think, I have a child of my own and we still vacation with my in-laws.

I am sad for my youngest who just turned 16 and might age out of the vibe before we sail again. Our last cruise was November 2019 and we were supposed to go on the Greek cruise and a five day next November. I do have a 2021 Greek cruise planned for next June but my gut feeling is that we won’t be on it, If we wait for the 2022 one, she will have just aged out by a matter of days from the teen club and most likely will not want to go. I know. First world problem.

Completely understand. I get through life planning for my next trip. Had a super relaxing cruise planned early June. I refuse to plan one now until I know when we can travel again. this week my son was supposed to be in Maine on his annual trip with grandparents. So now I’m mourning my los

for me it’s worse because my Facebook is filled with everyone still traveling to beach and mountains. im not willing to take that chance with my family and think I must be in minority.

And my son turns 14 soon. Will this be done next year and it safe to travel while he’s still young enough to enjoy? Sigh. I’m so beyond done with 2020.

Well I don’t think one ever gets too old to enjoy Disney or DCL. :)
