This is probably going to turn into a bit of a moan so apologies in advance.

When we came back from Northern Ireland, I got a job working in Communications & Marketing 25 hours a week. It sounded absolutely fantastic and the fact that it was part-time was great as it meant I could fit in my work around school times.

Trouble is, the job is mind-numbingly boring. In fact, it's pretty much non-existent. I've been here since August and can count on 2 hands the number of days that I've actually had some work to do. It is so demoralising and it's now got to the point where I am not sleeping at night because my mind is so over-active from lack of use during the day. I spend the whole day surfing the web and looking for other jobs. I had an interview last Wednesday but just found out this morning I didn't get it (I was first reserve but chances are the guy who was offered it will accept it as it's a promotion).

The long and short of it is that I desperately need another job. I have been looking and looking but can't find anything which either pays enough or that I have the qualifications/skills for.

To be perfectly honest, with Gary due to be made redundant in October, I'm even considering a move to another area to try and find something else. The problem I have is that I'm actually paid quite well for what I do (or don't do) and any jobs that I find just aren't offering enough money. With Daniel starting school in September, however, we will be saving approx £5K a year on child care so I'm wondering whether to bite the bullet and go for a lower paid job and just tighten our belts until September.

Sorry, I appreciate that nobody is really going to be able to help much - unless there's someone out there who knows of a fantastic job just waiting for someone like me ;) I just really needed to get it off my chest and have a bit of a gripe.

On a positive note, though, this is day 5 without a cigarette :thumbsup2

Oh Joh, I really sympathise with you, I am in exactly the same boat, I can't offer any advice but just wanted to let you know that you are not the only one, and maybe we can whinge together. It is so demoralising isn't it, and I so sympathise on the lack of sleep thing. I don't know if you are experiencing the same thing but I also hate the way it is changing my personality, I am absolutely evil at the moment, anything can set me off in this place, todays gripe is that the person I share the office with is wearing the most overpowering perfume I have ever smelt, which is giving me a headache, the fact that this is driving me mad is totally petty and so unlike me, I am so laid back normally, as you know ...

I'm sorry that I have no advice for you, and I hope you dont mind me joining your vent.

Well done on the cigarettes, the way I feel at the moment, I could smoke 20, so I really admire your willpower.

I have been frantically searching also, and can come up with nothing.

Well done on giving up smoking!

With the job situation is there anything that you really fancy doing? If there is something that you really want to try then I would take the pay cut and go for it. If you need extra qualifications then could do go to college part-time or do an evening course?

I would go for what you really want to do, its a shame to just plod along and be unhappy.

:goodvibes

Hi Joh, I can't be much help I'm afraid but I would firstly like to say your irritability is probably down to the lack of ciggies, I stopped smoking (notice I din't say 'gave up';) ) the week before Xmas and was pacing the floors for days and days.
If thats what it is you may feel differently in a couple of days.
Also, pop in to your local travel agents! they are probably crying out for staff - all the ones I know are, its a great job but crap pay but at least you'll probably enjoy it and you may get some benefits for your own travel.
Or start the networking, ask around at school and get everyone you know to do the same, the more people who know you're looking for work the better.
good luck anyway :cloud9:

Joh - well done on giving up smoking - keep up the good work :thumbsup2

Sorry to hear that you're not happy at work, there's nothing worse than being bored stupid at work, the day is long enough without it dragging - anyway I'm sorry that I can't help you, but I really hope that something comes up soon:wizard: :wizard:

Mandy :)

my specific branch isn't due to the closing of one branch and a merger last year but our Exeter branch always is! a bit far for you though. There are two agents as far as I can see in Calne so maybe worthwhile .

Joh, I went through this a few years ago, and went for a complete career change and now love the job I do. It is so difficult though :sad2: Well done on giving up smoking though :woohoo:

Another one jumping in on the 'I hate my job' bandwagon. :wave2: My problems are manyfold: 1) I've got absolutely no idea what would make me feel like getting out of bed every morning; 2) Whenever I do try looking into other opportunities I can never find anything which pays as well/has such good benefits; 3) I do sometimes have ideas for self-employment, but I don't have the capital to get them started. I could go on, but you get the gist.

So no help from me, hon, just a bit of empathy  . Maybe we could start a business together. We could call it Threejays. Joh, Jules and...well, obviously I'd have to change my name. :rotfl:

I'm sorry to hear that you are in the same boat Deb, we shall have to start a "I hate my job" therapy group.

Shall have to start thinking of a J name for you ....

i almost hesitate to saythis...i love my job :) its great fun i look after a lovely bunch of kids and its very rewarding

childcare isn't for everyone tho;)

joh im so sorry to hear of your job troubles...i hope you manage to find something deserving of YOU ! :grouphug: good luck x x

Congrats on stopping smoking Joh:thumbsup2

I can't offer any advice either ~ I think I'm in the minority with Nat as I do love my job. I think that is because it is so different and I'm constantly meeting new people.

Hope something turns up for you very soon:hug:

I love my job too, Pay is crap, benefits don't exist and hours are too long but I'm still here after nearly 8 years so it must be good!

There are changes in the pipeline though :rolleyes1

yes come on Carol, spill the beans, sounds as if one of us has some good news in the pipeline ... cheer us all up

I can assure you all that if something happens you'll all be the first to know! :hippie:

Ooh yes Carol, tell me - I hate to disappoint you,t hough, but you can't join 'our' company as your name doesn't begin with 'J' either :rotfl:

oh, well Joh that's put paid to me joining the 'fourjays'
