On Tuesday, I was in a fairly bad car accident. The brief version of what happened was, I was attempting to make a left hand turn onto a very busy intersection, and had to wait for the traffic to stop and "pause" to let me out. I have to do this every single day from work. Like every other day, I pulled out into the middle median turn lane (I had right of way, no cars coming), looked to my left again (still no cars coming), looked to my right and I remember thinking that once the car on the right passed me, I could pull out completely onto the road and head home. Unfortunetly, there was this sickening loud THUD and I didn't know what happened until an EMT was asking me if I was okay.
Sadly, a lot of people die and get badly hurt at this particular spot on this road, because people get impatient with the light and try to "cheat the system" by driving up the middle median. This is what this idiot who hit me did, and from what all of the witnesses say, he pulled out of his stopped lane of traffic and was going about 50 mph when he just plowed into the driver's side of my vehicle. Never even attempted to hit the brakes. They all also said once he hit me, he very casually got out of his truck, lit up a cigarette, and never even bothered to see if I was okay.
Again, since I don't remember what happened, the woman who was behind me said that when he hit me, I hit my head twice on the driver window. Thank God I had my seatbelt on. My fiance said that I must have just instinctively taken my cell phone out of my pocket and hit the last number that I dialed (which was his) and all he heard was me screaming and crying. He ended up getting the full story from the EMT when they called him, but by that time, he figured out enough of the story and was on his way.
My car is gone. He took off the front end and smashed up the left tire so badly that it was bent all the way inside of the engine area. Again, I thank God that I was driving a bigger car, because no one is sure that I would be here if I was in my fiance's Altima. My car was a 96 Ciera.
Anywho, while I didn't have any major injuries, I still have a very big lump on top of my head that doesn't stop throbbing, so I have a check up with the doc on Monday. I had a hard time dealing with what happened the last few days, and of course, my fiance was a complete mess because he had no idea what had happened to me when I was taken to the hospital.
So, my in laws to be told me to borrow their Lincoln for the rest of the week until we could figure out what to do for another car. There is just simply no way I could really afford another one now, and they were going to let me use it as long as I needed, when they decided to just buy me a 98 Mercury Sable. The car was originally $9,000 at a Lincoln Mercury lot, but with the employee sale pricing going on, it ended up being $4,500. I was blown away by their love, support, and above all, genorosity. This car looks brand new. It drives like a dream, and it's definetly a "me" sort of car. I couldn't thank them enough, or give them enough hugs. I'm not sure what in the world I can do to thank them, but I think they just want grandchildren a little sooner
(something we were planning on working on anyways).
So, it's been a very emotional week. I am so blessed to have some amazing people in my life. And while this isn't a pic of MY car, this is a pic of the same car that they bought, color and all. I so love red

My best that you feel better soon. And that is great about the new car from future IL's.
