Wow... what a touching and sad story. Your boys are lucky to have you and I know your dad sees what a wonderful job you are doing raising his grandsons.

Charlie, that is one of the best essays I have ever read -- publication-worthy, even.

You have obviously poured your heart and soul into every word, and it certainly shows.

Yes, we who are fortunately enough to be parents can understand. I think it is a natural feeling to look at our kids and wonder how our parents felt about us.

Charlie, if you don't ever publish this, please print out a few copies for your own sons. Give it to them at the appropriate time -- when they turn 21, or when they have children of their own.

And Charlie? Have a GREAT Father's Day . . .

That was a very beautiful tribute, Charlie. I thank God every day for my Dad. We are friends and I love him dearly. It sounds like you have an exceptional mother. Hug your boys and know that your father is probably looking down on you with pride. :D

I love your essays.

I lost my father in 2001. {{{HUG}}} your daddies, everyone. They are precious.

Some people dont know what a father really is

I quoted a line by Keanu Reeves in a movie once

He said you need a license to fish or drive a car but they let anybody become a father. but to me anybody can be a father but a Dad is much different

Charlie your stories always have a good meaning

Thanks for the reminder that every day is precious. Even though my Dad and I didn't get along that great when I was growing up, I still appreciate all he did for me (and still does for me) and I love him. ........................P

For sharing your heartfelt story with us strangers. My Dad died when I was 3 too, and I don't remember much of that day/night either. He died of Lung Cancer, and my older Brother swears he died at home, whereas my Mom always said he died in the Hosp. I sometimes remember bits and peices of the home we shared with an older couple, black linoleum tile, the stairs leading to the roof where my Mom would hang out the Laundry....after Dad died, we moved into a Wood frame house, a 3 bedroom 1 bath home, the rent was 50.00 a month.....circa 1962. My Mom remained a widow till the day she died at 72 8 years ago.:o

Loved your post! Thanks for sharing your story and feelings. I lost my Father almost 8 years ago and miss him very much. But he's always with me. :) Happy Father's Day to you!

Very nicely done! I'm sure your dad is looking down on you and smiling from above. ::yes::

Charlie, what an amazing tribute to your father. Your love for a man you barely had the joy of knowing shines through.

Thanks for sharing Charlie... My Dad died in January 2002 and I miss him SO much~ it still hurts! he's often in my dreams and constantly in my thoughts

have a very nice Fathers' Day! :sunny: I'm getting my tissues now.

That was so eloquent, Charlie!

I lost my father to a massive heart attack when I was 19, he was 43. It has been so difficult because he has missed out on all the important milestones in my life.

I hope you have a very happy Father's Day!

Charlie. What a wonderful post. Usually you have me in tears from layghter. Today it is tears shed for you as a 3 year old little boy & for all children who don't know their fathers.

Thanks for a wonderful post. Take Dr. Deb's advice. Your boys will treasure this. BTW, they are very handsome young men. Your DW must be very pretty. ;)

Love ya, CharlieNJ!!

Happy Father's Day!

charlie, you have such a wonderful way with words.

Just had to say how sorry I am for your pain. How inspired I am though, by you ability to express your feelings. The true appreciation for your Mothers ability to raise you and your brothers that you articulate is also so uplifting. You must be a remarkable person. I'm sure many people whose lives you touch are all the better from having been exposed to you.
I feel I am now.
I must go now and call my Dad.
Thank you.
May your higher power bless and keep you and yours.

What a beautiful tribute to your father:hug:

As others have said that was a beautiful tribute to your father as well as your mother. My father is almost 73 and I have been so BLESSED to have such a wonderful man to call dad. I thank God everyday and every year that he is with me.

Happy Father's Day Charlie and may your sons grow up and realize what a wonderful dad they are also blessed to have in their lives.
