I Need Your Help Computer People

Ok, so when I'm trying to log into VMK on FireFox (and yes, it's my only way to get on the internet) I'm getting a message that says:

To Play VMK you will need the latest version of Shockwave installed.

It gives you the option of downloading or hitting cancel to go to the log in screen. When I did the download it came back to the log in screen and I tried to log in. When I did that the log in screen changed to an Adobe Shockwave download screen, something about compatibility. When the progress bar for the download gets to the end, I get an error message.

I've tried restarting my computer three times now, cleared all the junk like cookies and temporary files, and the thing still won't let me log on. I keep getting the same process over and over.

Anyone have this happen before? Could anyone give me some guidance? I'd hate to miss the last month because of some odball computer glitch.

Just hit cancel and you'll be fine.

This happens to me all the time I have no idea why I just hit cancel and it works

I've tried hitting cancel now five or six times. I'm worried that, because I hit ok the first time and tried to download it, that I've messed something up? Any thoughts?

I'm encountering the same problem. I just click cancel (to install the latest version) and the login screen comes up.

When I hit cancel, the log in screen does come up. But when I try to log in, Adobe Shockwave throws up a screen that replaces the log in screen. It says it is trying to download something about compatibility.

This is happening whether I hit ok or cancel when it prompts me to download the latest version of shockwave. No matter what I do, the same thing happens.

Have you tried to uninstall shockwave and install again?

I just went to Adobe to try to figure this out. Completely obliterated Adobe from my computer and reinstalled it.

Here is what the other users have said:

Shockwave has been broken for me since it recently updated to 11. It installs fine but when I try to load Shockwave games it says "Adode Shockwave Player is now installing: Installing Compatibility Components" and it gets stuck. I've tried to install an older Shockwave (10.1) but it says it is missing 'Xtras'. If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it.


It has been broken for me too since the update came. I am using Windows 2000 and IE6; all fully updated. During installation I get the error that GetSystemWow64DirectoryA is not found. Strange that Shockwave automatically wants to update to a version that is not functioning. Does anyone know where to find an older and well funtioning version?

Since I downloaded the newest version of Shockwave, I can no longer play my favourite games. It takes ages to install these compatibility components. I have to refresh so many times *** it will stop installing after a certain amount of time. Is there a solution to this??

It's weird how the other day, I could play those games again but now it doesn't load again. I've tried so many things but nothing seems to work. HELP!!

This is a problem with Adobe Shockwave. I have no idea when it will be fixed or if I will be able to play VMK again.

I have downloaded the most recent version and I get that every time as well. Just click cancel.

I hit ok then when the install window come up I either hit "x" to exit on - to minimize it and everything runs fine. Sorry you are having trouble. I am on Internet Explorer haven't tried it on Foxfire...

Pirateslifeyoho suggested this as well. Having a difficult time finding it though. Any ideas for where it would be in Windows 2000?

Windows 2000 didnt have system restore like XP and Vista does at least not the version I had.

I had to strip mine of the offending Shockwave awhile back and while I was at it I cleared out Flash to.

I then went to Filehippo and D/L a olderversion and reinstalled it.

Filehippo is a cool site if you are looking for stuff and they have the older versions of most but if its really I old try http://www.oldversion.com/
