Hey Yall
Iv been looking for a portable ac for tent camping.....i know nothing about them....dont want to slice up the tent so everyone says go portable....any info? oh and i dont want to spend over 300 for one the less the better!

We have a Commercial Cool portable a/c that we purchased at Meijer here in Michigan last summer that I believe was around your $300 mark. We used it camping there last august and it was great. It is also a heater, so when we returned in November, we used both features. We've also used it here at home and we've had no problems with it. I would recommend it.

Thanks yall.....Im torn between a tent and renting a pop up.....Bama Ed Im from alabama to! im right below you in sylacauga.....and iv got a question for you....iv been wanting to do the fort for a long while but the cabin just coast way to much for us to stay as long as we would like.....but im not sure if i can do the tent....we camped at desoto caverns back in march and i didnt sleep all night long!.....all the animal noises and oh my god dont even get me started on the cyotes!.....and that mornin their were ants in my boots and i HATE ants!....i was having so much fun till it was time for bed....then all the wild animals came out and the ants got in my boots.....is the fort like this of diff. plus i would be renting a tent from disney if we tent camped....

Not that I can answer your bama ed question for your area noises and what not but I will tell you I am a huge fan of White Noise. I can't even sleep in a hotel without it. Either a sound machine that has white noise or even a fan blowing helps drown out all the noises that would normally keep you up. We are tent campers and we will be there in August. Even if a park doesn't have animal noises it surely will have strange people noises that I can't handle when trying to sleep. You can bet your booty I will have my white noise kicking just to handle that alone, lol. :thumbsup2

Hope you have a magical trip!!! :goodvibes

ps if all else fails....pack tylenol P.M. ;)

There will always be some animal noises. In a tent you'll hear them but there isn't a ton of noise.

BTW with the cost of renting a tent from WDW, a few dollars more and you could rent a pop up. :thumbsup2

Well howdy neighbor. :woohoo:

Guess I'll drive down Hwy 280 and pull over at the top of Oak Mountain and wave in your direction. :wave2:

I'm with you about the cabins being pricey.

I would strongly encourage you to rent the popup for a couple reasons. First, unless you are a frequent tent camper, you will be more rested on your vacation if you are NOT on the ground. Second, if you have to gear up (buy a lot of gear) to make a tent trip work (even if renting a tent from Disney) then it may not be cost effective. For example, if you bought a portable AC unit, would you use it anywhere else besides the Fort?

I have a popup and will tell you if you run the AC at night (you can use it to cool or just circulate air) it will generate all the white noise you need. My kids like it because at night on their bunk they can't hear the noises.....coming from my bunk. Okay, I'm embarrassed to say it....but DW whistles when she sleeps. ;) and the AC will cover any animal noises.

I take steps in my popup to guard against ants. Even if you have someone set it up for you, bring a bottle of Ortho Ant Powder or Sevin Dust (from your bug/garden section of Home Depot). See how I used it in my April trip report here on page 4 posts 47 (last picture), 55, and 56.

I'm glad we've got a group of trailer and popup vendors who set up for folks. That opens up the Fort to people who otherwise would stay somewhere else.
