:goodvibes Hi everyone I still have to pinch myself that we are going in 3 days. Is that possible??

We are on the dining plan and I understand about the lunch (cs) and dinner (ts) but the snack credits still leave me a bit confused.

We are staying at AKL, should I wake up in the morning and go down to the little cafe and get something for breakfast there? Do we use snack credits for items like a danish or muffin?? How does this work?

Since we have no plans for breakfast each morning, and I have heard many people say that they leave with left over credits, I thought maybe I could use some of mine for breakfast items. I have the print out from Disney that ice cream and fruit are counted as a snack item but I am sure there are more choices that I am not aware of.

Can someone help that has been to the AKL and knows the lay of the land?

Thanks!!! :yay:

Last month muffins, danishes and large cookies were included as snacks also. Interestingly, one of the cashiers told me that 1CS=4 food or beverage items. We were able to use 1 CS on 2 cereal bowls and 2 milks and another on 2 blueberry muffins and 2 prepacked watermelon bowls. I think there are hot breakfast items available as well. The cashiers are usually very good about explaining what is and isn't on the plan. Have fun!

I recommend the Zebra domes. In fact I dream about Zebra domes. My mom loves them so much she is trying to find a way to have me ship them home to her (I don't want ideas, she is not getting them).

I will be at the AKL in about 2 months so please do a trip report, with pictures please, when you get back. Thanks.

Have a great time and tell all the giraffes that my dd6 is coming to visit them. :bounce:

This board has been so wonderful to me while planning my trip that I will of course come back and tell you ALL about it :cloud9:

I told my dh I was going to take pictures of our food and he told me I was crazy. He said in V & A's he would not allow it...so when he gets up to go to the bathroom, I will be snapping like crazy! :teeth:

I was worried that I would try and get a muffin, or something, and not know that it was not a snack and get charged a CS point or something like that.

Do the items have a label on them so we know that something is a snack credit and something else is not??

You guys are awesome!!!!!!!!!! :yay:

Hey, we're leaving in 3 days too-but staying this time at POP (though we love AKL!)

Have you checked out this thread yet?

It has a very complete, up to date, confirmed snack credit items.

Happy dining! :goodvibes

We just returned on Saturday (stayed at All Star Sports) and we were on the dining plan. I have never seen so much food. We used our TS meals for dinner twice, 3 lunches and 2 breakfasts. We would grab a fruit bowl as a dessert and use that for breakfast the next day (we had a fridge). We never ordered appetizers and rarely ate desserts. The portions at the restaurants were large and we couldn't even finish it. We started getting the rice krispie squares for desserts (to take home) and started using the snack credits for cokes during the day. Still went home without using 9 snack credits. Never once were we hungry. We had to adults and two sons (8&9) and tracked the receipts for the 7 sevens. The total was $1047 on meals. Can't beat the DDP!!!!! :stir:

Hi -
We just returned this evening from 4 nights at AKL on the dining plan. I can definately confirm that you can use snack credits for danish, donuts, muffins, bagels, etc, as well as fruit bowls, yogurt, cereal and lots of other things. All the CM's were helpful when we asked questions about what we could get with each type of credit. Snacks are anything $4 and under ... anything ! And sides for CS meals are anything $4 and under, too.

I will tell you that by the time we got to AKL (we were at BWV for 8 days before arriving at AKL ... and on the dining plan there as well), we figured out the best way for us to use the plan without feeling so, so, so full was to eat a counter service breakfast, use our snacks mid-day for side salads, yogurt, smoothies ... things like that, and then use our TS for dinner. Maybe not the best use of the plan $ wise if you're keeping track, but we could not keep up with the eating and were really feeling uncomfortably full at times.

My kids nicknamed the Dining Plan "Mickey, You're Killing the Guests" ... Disney's version of the TLC show called "Honey, We're Killing the Kids". If you know the show, you'll understand the humor ! :lmao:

AKL was an awesome experience ... my dd10 cried last night and several times this morning ... she just fell in love with the animals, especially the giraffes  .

Any other questions, just ask ! Enjoy your trip !

Ever since my hubby started chemo, he has to eat every 2 hours. I always tell him it was like morning sickness, gotta eat lots of little meals to keep the nausea away. So I really want to understand the snack credits.

It seems (and I could be wrong) that people are more careful in the beginning of their trip to use their snack credits spairingly...then at the end, they go home with unused credits. So our plan is to use them when ever we want to and if we run out of snack credits mid-trip, that is okay, we can just come out of pocket for snacks. Better for us than leaving with 8 unused credits, which would make me crazy :rotfl:

My plan is to grab something quick with a snack credit for breakfast each morning...eat at CS for lunch, but knowing me I will still select something small and light, and then TS for dinner.

If anyone has a plan that worked for them, I would be happy to hear it. I am still nervous about how it all works but I am guessing when I get there, they will explain it to us.

Have a happy trip everyone!

::yes:: Was at AKL last week. All the snack items are very clearly marked, and easy to pick out. We were also told that 4 items=one cs credit, and that anything under $4 equals a side/dessert for a cs or a snack. All of the above fit that bill. Don't know if that is how it is at other locations, but that is what we were told at AKL. And the refrigerated section has an area for the kids sides/drinks that was also clearly marked, and at kid friendly level.

We also found that the counter service for breakfast was great. A lot of food :thumbsup2 DS3 and I were able to share the adult platter (eggs, bacon, potatos and a biscuit and large bottle of oj) with no problem. Then use a snack credit each for mid morning snack (I usually got a piece of fruit  , he usually got a big bag of chips or some popcorn popcorn:: ), and a child counter service meal to split between us for lunch. Neither of us are big lunch eaters, so that worked out great...besides, even those meals are a lot of food. Our first day there we each got our own counter service for lunch (1A meal, 1C meal) and neither of us were able to finish our own food, so I started to just order the child size of whatever he wanted for lunch and split it between us. Then we each got our own table service meals for dinner.

Happy eating! :wave2:

I was told they have packages of bagels, donuts, english muffins and loaves of bread at AKL as snack credits... can anyone who has been there recently confirm this?

I did see boxes of Entenmann's donuts, cinnamon rolls and cereal bars ... but they are in the gift shop, not in Mara. I think they also had bagels and Pop-Tarts as well, but I don't remember seeing loaves of bread. I could have overlooked it, though.

It's definately a better deal getting these items at the gift shop rather than in Mara. Mara has packages of 2 Pop-Tarts and individual donuts and bagels (along with cereal and lots of other items) ... all for 1 snack credit. In the gift shop, the same 1 snack credit will get you a whole box - as long as the cost is $4 or less.

Hope that helps ! :sunny:

Yes, yes, yes... that does help!!! Thank you soooo much for the info, DVCindy. I was hoping to find large packages there.

On the day of our checkout we still had 5 snack credits remaining. I went down to the gift shop and picked up 4 boxes of "Minnie's Bakery" cookies, and a bag of "Mickey's Peanut Brittle". All were $4 and under. I took them home, and passed them out at work (cheap souveniers!).

What is a zebra dome?
A little piece of heaven! It's dark chocolate with a chocolate mousse filling.
