I've never really done a fundraiser before and I could use some ideas. I am the new PA State Director for "Give to the Troops". My carepackage shipping and handling are covered by another branch right now...but I want boost our own savings and have a decent amount to purchase items that the troops need - our ship them out. Got any ideas?

Could you ask your local stores to maybe get involved? They could ask customers to donate $1.00 at check out. You could also start a drive to see if the community might purchase the items and drop them off to be sent too.

I would contact as many stores as possible and see if you can put change buckets at the registers. Advertise what you want, cash/items for sending to the troops, and you will get donations in the mail. I am assuming this is a statewide effort, right? I know at DS13's school last Christmas they collected change for the troops. One day they brought in nickels, the next dimes, then quarters, the bills. They collected about $5000 just with the 7th and 8th grades. Contact the schools and see if they can organize something like this. They also did a collection for things like toothbrushes, toothpaste, batteries, etc.

The troops from our local Armory are coming home on Saturday after a year long deployment!

It seems like I've been fundraising forever. I'm quite sick of it but I realize it's a neccessary evil.

We've done a comedy night with raffle which was a huge success. I'm sure you have a comedian near you that you can pay or get donated and then have raffle baskets/and or big items to raffle off. I suggest a live auction since that seems to bring in more money. All you need is a large hall or auditorium.

A nice ladies' event is a fashion show - stores let you borrow their clothes in exchange for publicity. Again, raffle baskets bring in the money.

Golf tournaments are really big as are Texas Hold 'Em tournaments with prizes. That's really hot right now.
