We have a flight on hold from Chicago-LGA-MCO.....DS is a MAJOR FAN of NY, just wondering what you see when approaching....we'd arrive @ 4p.m., but will be Dec., so getting dark early. Also, I am wondering about frequency of snow storms etc., I know there is no way to predict...but any of you been delayed due to snow? I usually only fly non-stop so this is all new to me. Our layover would only be about an hour.

Thanks,

Pam

I've flown into LaGuardia from FL and could see the whole city of New York from the plane.

It depends totally on your flight approach path, I've definitely come into LaGuardia over the LI Sound and missed Manhattan completely, and I've also gone right over Manhattan and been able to see quite a lot.

real snowsotrms are very rare in december in NY. if your flight it landing at 4 it will still be daylight -- it gets dark around 5. what you see depends on your approach, but you will undoubtedly see the Triborough, Throgs Neck and Whitestone Bridges, and maybe the Manhattan skyline. some flights go right over Shea -- you'll recognize that because it's bright blue.

Depends on your flight path. The majority of our flights take us right up 5th avenue! ;) Well, not really, but it feels like it.

I remember flying in over Manhattan once. One of the runways there goes out into the water. When you are coming in for a landing all you see is the water getting closer and closer. When it feels like you are about 3 feet from crashing into it, suddenly the runway appears. It's a little scary the first time.
