due to circumstances if we go to WDW this year it will be on a budget and i am in talks with Dreams re ressies. Here's the question i am looking at ASMU and was looking for opionions: the good, the bad, and the ugly. would it be worth spending an extra 250 to stay at POR??? I have stayed off site, the swan, coronado, and caribbean beach. i just am at a cross road and needing opinions from y'all. let me know. thanks

I've heard some pretty good things about the AS resorts. And IMO I would always stay onsite vs offsite - it just is not the same to me being offsite.

I have stayed at ASMu once in 1998. I thought is was a nice, fun resort and would recommend it to others. I have since stayed in several deluxes, and though they obviously have more amenities/larger rooms/more ideal locations/etc., I found the All Stars to have a special Disney magic too. They were spotlessly clean and had very efficient bus service. I would definitely stay in ASMu over staying offsite. The only negative thing about the All Stars was the small size of the room. When I stayed there for my high school spring break trip, myself and the 3 other girls on the trip had trouble finding a place to put all our luggage (of course that's probably not a big problem when there aren't 4 teenage girls in one room :teeth: ). Hope this helps! :)

What time of the year will you be going?
I ask because they often have cheerleading groups etc staying in mass at the AS resorts. They practice late into the night and early in the morning right outside the rooms. We have found the AS just too noisy and for us it is worth the extra $$ for the moderates. You also might take a look at mousesavers.com and see if you can get a discount of some kind. Tourism is way down even at WDW so they will probably be offering some promotion in the months to come.

Swan: though not a Disney resort, they do offer some good specials and you cant beat the location.

CSR: this is a great moderate. We have stayed there many times and love the Mayan temple pool.

CB: Many love this resort. We stayed there once and it was our last. We like many of the other resorts better.

we will be there (expected) from june 3 to june 9
may need to change a day or two if we decide to drive
by then i figure the cheerleaders will be gone(fingers crossed)

ASMU vs. offsite - stay at ASMU

I would stay at an All Stars again in a minute if my budget were a major factor. Just be prepared for lots of "activity."

I didn't find the rooms to be that much smaller than Coronado. The bus service was good, albeit crowded.

Food court was okay - we usually eat in the parks or other resorts anyway.

We have stayed at the all-stars for every wdw visit except one.
We absolutely love it. We really don't spend too much time at the resort so the extra amenities such as slides at the pool, hot tubs, or a sit down restaraunt don't really matter to us.
The bus service is great. We have waited for buses at other resorts after dining there or visiting and none seem to compare to the efficiency of the all-stars.
I think you need to consider some determining factors.
Do you need a large room??
Do you have small children who would like to spend time on slides and such at the pool??
How long will your vacation be? The more time you spend you may want to stay at a mod or deluxe resort.
I would highly recommend all-stars. I would much rather spend less on our room and more on restaraunts and souvenirs and such.
