I was wondering if anyone had ideas...we are surprising the kids with a trip to Disney leaving on Dec. 28th Christmas morning. I'd love to hear how you have all done this in the past!!

We've done a few things like this with our kids...

They love the movie Willie Wonka (the original) and were constantly pretending to find golden tickets in all of their food wrappers, so one year they got "golden tickets" made by my husband inside of Disney Beach towels. That was a really fun one. The kept trying to give the tickets to the plane reservation people... the ticket people at WDW, the hotel people. It was pretty funny. They were about 6...

One year, we told them we were just taking them on an adventure, they'd have to see where they were going...That was a really fun trip, because our oldest was only 4 and we had to get up when it was still dark to catch the plane. We put on our adventure theme music (The Lion Sleeps Tonight) and he came out of his room and said, "we can't go on an adventure now, it is dark outside!" The problem with that trip was that they weren't familiar enough with Disney that I don't think they really figured it out until they saw Mickey. Let me assure you that THAT's no longer a problem!

We've also done scavenger hunts that take them around the town in which we live. One clue said they'd be having lunch in the city that was a mile-high...(our layover stop). After the layover, the flight attendant delivered their next clue which was about their final destination. That was a really fun one, too, because the people around our seats got just as excited as the kids once they figured out what was going on... another fun thing was that it was over spring break and I'd convinced them that they'd be cleaning out the basement all week. They were NOT looking forward to that!

This trip they do know about, sometimes the fun is in the planning...although they don't know everything about the trip...:goodvibes !

there is a place that will have Micky Mouse call and tell the person answering the phone that they will be going to Disney on a trip. I will try and find the link.

We used it, totally cool

Someone over on the Theme Park board posted what they are doing and it sounded fun. They are giving each of their kids a small Disney suitcase (like the kids' pull-alongs) in a big box, already packed up with stuff for the parks. I think they actually leave a few days before Christmas and they are giving them the suitcases the day they go. But this could still work - even if you just gave them the suitcases without packing (or with only a few small items, like lanyards and such).

I have made puzzles out of a postcard DCL sent me. We happen to be leaving for the Disney Wonder on Dec 30th. So their first box will be a 110 piece puzzle, the next box is a swimsuit and towel, a formal box and a box with plane tickets and information about our trip. We will be staying at VWL on the 28th and AKV on the 29th. Hope this helps...good luck! Have a great trip.

One year we told the kids that a close relative just had a baby and we were going to visit. We told them they lived in Florida and we had to go help with the baby for a few days. Our kids were 5, 7 and 9 at the time and didn't realize what was going on until we were driving toward the Walt Disney World sign just before the parks!

They screamed for 5 minutes in excitment! :rotfl:

Great ideas!! Thanks Guys!! We do watch the Amazing Race as a family...I'm thinking I may set out a little treasure type hunt...thanks again!
