I would like my students to write a letter to a county in PA asking for information to that specific county. We would be practicing letter writing, research after we receive materials, oral speaking, and the list goes on. I am hoping that the recipient will send the students materials back to use for further projects.

How can I get a list of addresses for each county and who would I write to? Chamber of Commerce? County Seat?

I really like the skills concepts I want the kids to do, but I don't know how to get the addresses they can send their letters.

Thanks!
Karen

I havent looked at this yet... just thought Id let you :) and I want to subscribe to your thread!

Tourism Councils - for the county or the region
Chamber of Commerce
Local library - Librarians always know where the bodies are buried
Bed & Breakfast Inns - this one because the proprietors are often *founts* of good info on the area and they might have the time and inclination to help out
local history groups
Genealogy clubs - for history
I would think every county would have a website with ways to contact (including that old stand-by "snail mail") the appropriate people/groups for local tourism, history, business. You might be able to look *all* that info up through some main State of Pennsylvania website. The kids & you will have to be careful that everyone isn't ending up on generic sites like 'info-seek' or 'city-data'.

Good luck,
agnes!

I would contact the chamber of commerce. And I'd reccommend Lancaster County...the kids will likely find the Amish aspect very interesting.

The e-mail for Pennsylvania Pursuits Magazine (put out by the Pennsylvania Tourism Office) is - pursuits at visitPA dot com. I bet they would be able to help you.
