I need a solid plan...

So, we (I) go back and forth about a 2nd home resort all the time, but if prices dip (to a price point I have in my mind) sometime in the next few months, I want to be ready to buy! Our hesitation has always been where we want to stay the most, but I think we've got that figured out now.

Our long term plan is to use our BWV points for 3-4 nights and then on alternate years (or however availability plays out) stay at SSR or BLT for 2-3 nights. So, the question is do I focus on looking for BLT or SSR or whichever pops up first? We'd be looking for a 2 bedroom.

So, obviously, SSR is most likely available at 7 months so logic leans me toward BLT. HOWEVER, I have an Oct UY and am looking for less than 160 points (since we're only talking 2-3 nights per year). So, that will be really really really hard to find especially if I want a "good" price. Also, we really do want to stay at SSR sometimes, and the thought of spending expensive BLT points there hurts me inside. lol

So, am I likely to get a BLT 2 bedroom at least every 3rd year as a non owner? Again, I only need 2-3 consecutive nights. We travel October - March typically. I know, the hard to book season!

OR do I just buy more BWV points and gamble with them (if the price is right)? I don't know. We kind of wanted one set of points with a longer expiration. We're not THAT old! Ha ha! OTOH, we already planned on buying a handful more BWV, so we could just look for a bigger contract instead of another small one.

I need a plan of attack! And I change my mind a lot! Have I really even made any decisions on this????????? I thought I did.... Oh yeah. We want to split stay our trips.... BWV / SSR or BLT. That's something!

Because you want to stay at both SSR and BLT and travel Oct-March which includes both a busy time and a slower time......I'd purchase SSR. I think you'll be fine to get a BLT 2BR at times with those points during that 6 month time frame.

I will say it here as well be prepared for the foreseeable years to not have any movement at 7 months except in rooms that people don't want or during DVC low seasons like middle of summer.

There is going to be an abundance of points and people are going to he looking at adding extra nights, extra stays, renting out points as a way to use them.

Could be wrong but just make sure you are okay if you can't move.

I just looked thru a years worth of ROFR from this board and there were only 3 Oct UY contracts at 100 points. So, it's probably unrealistic for me to even find a BLT contract.

Unfortunately, yes. I have an Oct UY and have been keeping an eye out for a smallish sized add on at BLT for over a year. I've only had 1 or 2 come onto my radar. SSR comes up much more frequently.

Most first time buyers just bought what UY DVC was selling with no regard or knowledge that they could get a different one.

That's a drag. As a teacher October lets me schedule during school vacations, and it also leaves me the choice to bank or re-schedule during the summer months should I have to cancel.

Could be worse! You could be September (like me) -- which is the least popular overall, and is less popular than Oct for AKV, BRV, and OKW. I, too, am hoping for some good contracts for AKL, CCV, BRV or maybe Poly for Sep UY.

Disney in summertime is pure hell as far as I'm concerned. Oct UY just seems to work best with that mindset. Sept. probably equally as well.
I feel like I could have made August work, but really August and Sept are the least likely months I can ever see my family taking a Disney vacation - even if trying to predict the future with kids schedules and future grandkids. If they HAD to travel in summer, I'd choose the minute they got out of school rather than the week before they go back.

So, it's only in terms of trying to find a resale contract that I regret my decision just a tiny bit.

I’ll join the Oct. use year support group. We aren’t owners yet but I am only looking at Oct contracts for BLT or AVK. I will not step foot in FL July-Sept so don’t really want any other use year. Thankfully I am not in a hurry and hope to buy within a year but it’s going to be tough finding what I want.

50 pt BLT Oct UY went up today @ dvc resale market.

$154 and cannot close until late this year. only 1 2020 point.

I just made the decision to go for 100 @ SSR instead, otherwise I'd have jumped when I got the alert earlier.
