Everyone here is so great, I'm going to cry on your shoulders, all you Dis'rs make me feel better.

I posted a thread just over 1 yr ago that I had lost my job in May 2008. Well, a month and 1/2 later I found a new job as an accounting assistant at a timeshare resort. I loved it. My DH worked for the same resort but in a different department.
In Feb the company went through a layoff and DH lost his job but was hired back in April when things seemed to be going better for the resort.

We just found out yesterday that the resort, Consolidated Resorts, is filing for bankruptcy. :eek: Everything was fine until about 2:00pm then we got a call to send everyone home. They are closing everything in Las Vegas, Orlando and Hawaii. Anyone who already owns is not affected but no more new sales.

We are both so devastated. We both loved our jobs and now I feel like everything is completely out of control. DH has one or two leads for positions at another resort but I am FREAKING OUT!!!!! We just lost our total source of income in one fell swoop. I can't freak out to DH because he says I ma the strong one. HA if he only knew.

The only small bright spot is our mortgage company approved a loan modification for us that will save us over $300 a month.

Sorry to unburden myself here on the Dis but I know you all understand, unlike my family, who would freak out. I only hope my Mom doesn't call and ask how the job is, I have a hard time lying to my Mom, even over the phone. :rolleyes1

Thanks for listening to my troubles. I will keep the thread updated if we find jobs.

:hug::hug::hug:

Hang in there it is the worst when it first happens. The shock is difficult. Will you get unemployment? Jobs seem to be coming back. I hope you find a job that you love even more!

Take care, 1 day at a time

:grouphug:pixiedust: I am so sorry for you and DH. I don't know what else to say.

:hug:

Best of luck to you and your family. I hope you are able to find jobs soon.

Congrats on getting your mortgage lowered $300 / month!

I am so sorry for you and DH. :flower3: This is making the news here in Southern Nevada also as there are three properties here.

Update your resume. Work your network. Call your old bosses (and their bosses) and former co-workers & tell everybody you know you are looking for work. Call friends that work in the industry & get together for lunch or drinks; and let them know you are looking for work. Apply for temp work with at least 2 -3 agencies. Look at job listings on Craigs List 2 - 3 days a week. Look in your local paper. Look at industry websites that have job listings. Ask industry contacts to "critique" your resume; it's a sneaky way to get your resume in front of them. Do something, every day, to try and find a job. Your job is now finding a job.

My story - I was laid off in October from one of the casino companies here. In the first month I was out of work, I went on two job interviews that were word of mouth from my ex-boss and a vendor before my ex-boss got a lead that a local non profit needed a volunteer coordinator. I worked through Manpower for 8 months, but I never stopped looking for work, which was a good thing, because in April they let me know they could not hire me permanent; and, they cut me to 20 hours a week! Since December I've had four interviews - two were leads from job listings on an industry website, one was word of mouth from my ex boss, and one was through an ad in the local paper . . . and I start next Tuesday, in the marketing department of a non profit with a name you'd recognize. The job offer came from the interview with the ad in the paper.

Have faith. It will get better. And best wishes for the leads that your DH is pursuing!

I only hope my Mom doesn't call and ask how the job is, I have a hard time lying to my Mom, even over the phone. :rolleyes1
I'm sure your Mom will understand and be supportive. In times like these, this sort of thing could happen to anybody, so it's definitely not yours or DH's fault. Mothers know this.
I definitely wish you the best and hope your next opportunity comes soon.

Oh my gosh. :( I would be freaking out too! Best wishes in the job search. I hope you both find something you like and find it fast!:wizard:

Oh no, what a shock. I am hoping that one or both of yo0u find something right away. We have been through the ringer a couple of times in the last couple of years. I don't know if your DH was in the sales dept but if he was he has skills that are transferable to other resorts and other industries. I am hoping for the best for you 2.

:grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:

I'm a believer that things happen for a reason. You'll get through it.

Im so sorry to hear this
There are a few ads on the SIn Orlando paper for time share companies
Good luck

:grouphug: I'm sorry. That does stink.

So sorry for you and your DH. This is just a thought, but is it possible that since you live so close to the Happiest Place on Earth that you could be an accountant for the head Mouse? That would come with great perks!! Talk about benefits!!

:hug: My boyfriend's company is announcing layoffs today. The past few days have not been fun...he did not sleep well at all last night. I'm hoping he'll have good news for himself when he comes home, but I know some of his friends will be affected. :sad1:

Good luck with everything, things will turn around :hug:

onelilspark: I have to tell you, even if he does "survive the purge," he'll be sad. There's some sort of survivors' remorse that goes hand-in-hand with layoffs. Those that are laid off are hurt and so are those who are NOT laid off. Still, he should update his resume' -- it'll make him take stock of his talents and skills.

OP: That's awful. I'm so sorry and I hope that you both find BETTER jobs soon.

jlima's given you some good advice. Also, don't wait to file for unemployment or you'll delay your benefits.

Here's mine: Don't lie to your mother. I know you're trying to spare her the upset, but she'll be hurt if anyone else finds out about it before her. Just sayin'...

What about looking at building management companies for employment? It's sort of a vertical transition from timeshares.

Good luck and I'll keep you both in my prayers to find something fast.
