I need a picture of Main Street!

I need a picture of Main Street - but not just anywhere on Main Street. I need a picture as if you were standing facing back towards the front gates - what I really want is a picture that is facing the hub, from the middle of the street, where the parades circle around. Tony's on the left, barbershop on the right, and the hub in the middle of the picture.

Anyone? You'll make me very happy  :teeth: !

I take this to mean you want the Castle directly behind you, and the "Partners" statue of Walt and Mickey (with their backs facing you) directly in front of you pretty much filling the picture blocking out much of Main Street (becasue that's what would happen if you were facing the hub this way).

Or do you want the the "Partners" statue of Walt and Mickey directly BEHIND you?

BTW, Day or Night?

Umm, actually I want a picture taken much further down Main Street than that - more like right when Main Street starts. Essentially, I'd love a picture taken as if you were standing in the middle of Main Street, right at the beginning of Main Street, facing the front gates, so you'd be taking a picture of the hub, and the street directly in front of it.

Daytime, please :teeth: !

OH, no wonder... That's not the HUB.
The Hub is directly in front of the Castle.

You're talking about "Town Square" with the Flagpole and the Statue of Roy Disney (Sr.) and Minnie Mouse.
That's directly in front of the Train Station.

Here's somewhat of what you are asking.

Or this one. I know it's not exactly what you are looking for but, maybe it's helpful for whatever you are needing it.

This has a load of people in it, but it's the best I have.

I'm confused. How can you have a picture with the hub in the middle and Tony's on the left. The hub is in front of the castle so Tony's would have to be on your right.

Anyway, here's a few pictures I have stored on the computer:

If you'll read the posts in this thread, you'll see we already cleared that up.

KCMiller actually wants a picture of "Town Square" and not the Hub.

Ok I am admittedly utterly confused.

You want a pic of Main Street ON Main Street...
You want the hub included...
But you want to face the front gates...

Facing the front gates would be taking a picture of the train station. The front gates to your back would be taking a shot of Main Street with the hub and castle in the distance (if you're taking it from Town Square).

Just saw this...nevermind about my last post.

I've got a bunch of MS pix if someone can explain how to get them into my post...

You'll need to have the pictures digitally in your computer, of course, then

Go HERE:

http://www.photobucket.com/

Sign up (its FREE),
and follow the directions to upload your pictures to them.

You will then see each of your pictures in a window on that site.

Copy and Paste the numbers from the "IMG" window (below each picture) into your post.
Your image(s) will appear in your DISboard post after its posted (you can click "Preview Post" to see them before you post).

Try some of these. If we're getting warmer, let me know and I'll upload more.

Hi, it's me, the OP  !

I couldn't remember if the Town Square (sorry about the mixup!) was one solid round plaza type thing, or if, like one of the pictures shows, it was bisected by a walkway.

OK - the reason I needed a picture is because I'm trying to decide where is the very best place to sit to watch my DS and DD march with their marching band down Main Street this December. I'd prefer to WATCH parades from somewhere else, like Frontier Land or up by the castle, but to videotape the band and to really get some great shots of the kids marching with the castle in the background, I have to be on Main Street.

Now that I see the center of Town Square isn't as solid as I thought, can someone tell me - CAN you sit right there at the head of the street?

That will be so fun to watch your kids march in the parade! Hope you get some great video!

Spectro always starts (enters) from the Fire Station/Barbershop on Main Street, moves counter-clockwise around the "Town Square/Flagpole Green" (in front of the train station) and down Main Street towards the castle.
It winds counter-clockwise around the "Hub", into Liberty Square, veers left into Frontierland, down the street in Frontierland (past Country Bears) and finally exits between the McDonald's Fries "covered wagon" and Splash Mountain.

Even if there are 2 Spectro's on the same night, the parade follows this same route and goes at the EXACT same SPEED (its computer "controlled").

My best tip for you is to have a GROUP of PRE-COORDINATED camcorder operators, WITHIN A FEW YARDS of each other, who's job it is to "shoot the band" ALL ON THE SAME SIDE OF THE STREET (don't want the "direction" of the band to "change" on-screen because one shot is "right-to-left" the other is "left-to-right").

Because a single camcorder will miss MOST of the band, several coordinated units can cover MORE of it and then the footage can be edited together for the best end-result. (Most schools have video production/editing capabilities.)

A great position for at least one (or two) camcorder(s) is on the upper train platform.
It is very hard to get a spot there as many folks like to sit here.

If its important, be there 2-3 hours before the show and hold your spot.

Alternately, if you're too late to get that spot, make a "deal" with a person who is sitting at the rail that you ONLY need to be there for the time it takes to record your band going by (these "pre-show bands" march by many minutes [say 10-15 minutes] BEFORE the actual parade) and if the person would let you into "their spot" -just for a few minutes of the band going by- (then you'll quickly move to let them return) they would be helping the school get lasting memories of the day.

Lastly, borrow or buy a TRIPOD for holding the camcorder.
(At least for the camcorder(s) on the train platform.)
Wiggling shots are impossible to watch and can be avoided for $20-$30 spent at Wal-Mart for a basic "video tripod".

Frame one, two, or three "good shots" (wider, not too close).
Frame the first shot and let the band march THROUGH the picture,
quckly frame another shot, let it march by, etc.
Practice using the tripod until you're comfortable.

A group of "moms and dads" with thier own camcorders and a PLAN (Ed will shoot wide from the train station, Joan will be below with shots of the drum majors and then the drum section, Bill will get "Mr. Johnson" as he walks next to the band, Jane will catch the trombones and then the woodwinds...) can make a great team to capture the event.

Don't forget to coordinate with the BAND so everyone will be clear about when they will be PLAYING (and not just marching to cadence).

As you might have guessed, I do this for a living and have HOURS of spectacular WDW events in my collection.

With some pre-planning and proper positioning, you will be able to document an exciting day for the kids (and YOU).

boy Robo, u sure give great info, nice job!! The only thing Id like to add is Ive only seen bands in the 3 o clock parades (school type bands) and If Im not mistaken, the 3 oclock parade start on main st and ends in frontier land,(chec the day of parade to be CERTAIN) Check with 5 diff CMs to be really certain....in this case, Id stand near the Plaza rest so when the band turns to go around the hub circle the castle is in the backround sortof,.... cuz the band will march towards the castle in this parade right>>? Triple check to be certain! Have fun!
