OK, we were 'malling' tonight, DH & I and, there were several places to obtain a phone & service & 'jackets' & accessories, etc!! Yikes!! We didn't have THAT much time to listen to all the speals though.

My current phone is over 4yo which, if you have one this old, you now it's small, kinda heavy given its size and, NOTHING like the new ones. My contract with Verizon is long over and, I need a newer, smaller cell phone.

Here's the problem, I don't need ANY basic plans or minimum minutes/hours/LD service, etc. It's for emergency/immediate-type use only!! (If these things come free, that's fine though)

With Verizon, I pay $9.95/mo. just to have the service (too much IMO for the amount I use) and, I pay $.35 per call plus, whatever, roaming, I don't even know!

I need a new phone though! I spend more time re-charging the darn unused thing than I do actually using it!

SO, what Free deals for a phone are out there right now and, what minimum plan can I get with it?? (I've never paid for a cell phone before and, I don't intend to now!)

And, can I just cancel Verizon and, keep my number and, transfer it to another service??

If you think I'm confused about cell phones, don't even ask me about Computers!!!  :p

TIA

Kim

Hi!
I just got a new phone through T Mobile.
Actually my husband is a member of a teachers credit union and we got a great deal. The phone is very small, and cost us $50.

I use mine a lot! Our plan is $39.99, 600 minutes, free long distance, and no roaming. I use it to make all my long distance calls.

If you just want it for emergencies, find a plan for local use only.
Check online. That is where we started. I figured out exactly what I needed it for, then went from there.

We cancelled with our other provider, but were not allowed to keep our number. So, I am sure you will have to get a new number.

Also....If you get rid of your old phone, please consider taking it to a womans shelter. I took mine. They give it to women who have had a domestic abuse problem. They reissue them, just for emergency only...ie.. 911.

Thanks Lisa! Yes, T mobile was among the several I saw tonight at the mall. Some others were Cingular, Voice Stream (?), PrimeCo, etc.

And yes, I have donated one old phone to the Women's shelter program but, it's a great reminder for everyone else!! :smooth:

I would hope that since I've had this number for over 4 years that, I wouldn't need to change that but, if I do, it's not a big deal since I don't give the number to anyone. I just want family members to answer when I call, not call me on the phone since, I don't have it on unless I'm calling out on it. :o

What on earth are we doing up at this hour!?

LOL!
Talking about cell phones!!

I have mine on all the time. That way if the school needs to contact me and I am not at work, they can find me.

Good luck!
Lisa
