My brain is fried trying to figure this out. I could really use someone else to advise me on the best route to take with our ticket purchase.

DH just returned from a year in Iraq. We've decided to take a spur of the moment trip Feb. 25-March 5. Being military we can get our tickets at SOG. We're considering AP's b/c we will most likely try to return to WDW before a year passes.

If we joined AAA to get a discount pkg, can buying AP's suffice for the "ticket purchase" part of the pkg? If not, can we buy just a one day MYW to count as the ticket purchase, then buy our militray rate AP's at SOG, then take the one day MYW to a guest relations counter and have the MYW credit applied to who-knows-where?

I just can't figure out whether the military rate tickets and an AP discount on the room is the best way. Or is forgetting the military rate and just going with regular tickets for a package deal is better. Or can I have my cake and eat it, too, with AAA discounted pkg that allows AP's to be the ticket purchase.

Please help straighten me out!

No. In order to make your package a package, you need to purchase the entire package from one source in the same transaction.

Again, no. I mean, yes you can purchase one-day base MYW passes to make your reservation qualify as a package, but you can't then combine those passes with your APs. You can save the one-day passes for some other time, though. No pass can expire until it's used, so even though a base ticket expires, it can't start expiring until it's first used to enter a park.

You can't take a one day pass & upgrade it to an AP at guest relations?

Does guest relations sell AP's at a military rate? Or is SOG the only place to get those?

No. In order to make your package a package, you need to purchase the entire package from one source in the same transaction.

Couldn't AP's be bought at that same transaction? I'm sorry for the questions. We've never considered AP's until now. Thanks.

A couple options you might think about:

10-day no expiry park hopper at SOG: $382
add 6 plus options: $432 total

standard AP at SOG (4 main parks): $409
premium AP: $535

So you might want to consider a 10-day pass if that would fit your needs for the two trips, especially if the second trip might not be within a year.

Would you stay at SoG? We love it there, but we also love to try other Disney resorts. Now that they have expanded SoG, it's harder to get overflow rates, since the resort does not fill to capacity as often, but someone else posted that if you call Disney directly and ask about military rates at the resorts, they do give a discount. I really think you can do better with military discounts than AAA. The only drawback is if you want to try the dining plan. If so, AAA is the way to go. Good luck deciding ~

You need to order the same kind of Magic Your Way ticket for everyone in the room when you buy a package.

After you check in you can take any of the package tickets and upgrade it (them) independently of all the others, to have whatever features you want.

You can upgrade package tickets to AP after check in but I am not sure whether you can get the military discount during that transaction.

Only one, effective 2005: adult, AP is needed to book a room (room-only reservation, no dining) at AP rates or to get the separate discount dining card (DDE card) that is available to AP holders.

>>> who-knows-where
If you already bought your AP's and then buy a package, the package tickets cannot be traded in towards anything else besides upgraded tickets.

That part of my response to the OP's question was based on that it appears that she's asking if she can purchase APs from Shades of Green and combine them with an AAA reservation to make a package; no, the entire package has to be purchased from one source at one time to be considered a package.

Well, not at any military discount rate, and to be honest I don't know if APs can be purchased as part of a package anyway. I thought it was just one- to ten-day MYW passes.

I guess I was thinking the OP could get the one-day ticket with the package & then upgrade it (the ticket) to an AP at the gate or at SOG, if possible.
